The three remaining looked amongst themselves.  They all knew what was coming.  They just couldn't do a damn thing to stop it.  The shooter raised the pistol at the target.  

 

"Now or never," one thought.  She made a diving attempt for her partner.  

 

But it didn't matter.  He was never the target anyways.  Three rapid pulls sent bullets hurling through the air.  The bullets punctured the skin, and the body fell onto the ground.

 

Hallia has been killed!  She was - 

 

 

 

the nurse, Town Doctor.

An evil laughter filled the room.  The two old friends watched the screen.  It had been a long time since the demon had won, but his minions had fought hard this time.  They deserved the win.

 

Defeated, his counterpart tipped his piece on the chessboard in front of them.  He knew he had been defeated.

 

"Just...go easy on them?  They're young.  They don't know what's in store for them."

 

Pain.  Suffering.  Misery.  It was just another day at the office.

The boy opened his eyes just before he hit the ground.  He landed with a thud.

 

Then, he brushed himself off, stood up, and walked on.  It was only a two foot drop from the fountain's ledge.  Things are never as far, or awful, as they seem.  But when you're standing on the ledge, you forget that sometimes.

 

The boy smiled.  It was going to be a good day.
