1) Scum or Thirdparty. I love messing with people and tricking them, and sadly you generally dont get to do that as town. Unless your a mix of a cop and a vig. Mmmm Mass Effect game. But yeah, I find that scum/third party can pull off the stupidest most entertaining stuff. Hey Tress, remember World War 2 Mafia? Eh? Eeeeeh?

 

2) Team. Better range of stuff you can pull off.

 

3) Snarky commentary followed by accurate but largely ignored by the general populace until the very end insight. Im trying to upgrade from the usual, so I added in the accurate part. Self improvement!

 

4) Gambits can be fun. I enjoy doing them, when I can think up a good one. But I would never do something stupid, like Fake claiming dreamer or some crap.

 

5) A couple years, but in terms of skill level that means nothing. I might as well be buttered toast. With I cant believe its not butter, butter. As for people? I know some stuff. Its instinct at this point, so I cant really write it out. It probably wrong anyways.

I feel like Alanna set up the possibility for herself in case of being mafia to go after the hydras in signups... Granted, it's been a while since I've played, but I didn't think #lynchallhydras ever got any one anywhere. Seems like a cheap way to set ut lynches.

Actually, mish, there is a logic (to cut down on game bloat) that is good enough to start with, since it's not mathematically worse than any other random group of players. ......................and for us, it's actually mathematically better, since we'd be looking for 2 scum out of seven hydras - a 29% chance - instead of 5 scum in 19 players (a 26% chance). Of course, that assumes an even distribution, but if we're going to look at a random pool of 8, I'd rather it be one we're in rather than one we're not Sent from my SM-G900P using Tapatalk

You might as well choose 8 other random slots and focus on eliminating through them first. There is no logic in choosnig hydras specifically first. If you're gonna try and lynch me, do it on my actions, not because I'm hydra or have a odd-numbered slot or whatever. It's just an excuse for setting up lynches and I really don't ffeel it.

I have a feeling you're not the jokey type when it comes to mafia?

 

Really, this is a big game. There are more players than there would normally be because of the hydras. I'm also in two other games, work full time, and start school in a week. If I can select optimal slots that will cut down pages through working POE in that select group, then I'll do it because it seems more logical to me than choosing 8 "random" slots. Killing two birds with one stone, IMO. 

 

It's also really fun to rant and rave about something. You just have to #believe with me.

Brief history of my #LynchAllHydras thing...

 

Star Wars mafia. Darthe/Turin hydra, Andrej/Womby hydra, Thane/Verbal hydra.

 

I estimated one of the three was mafia. I peeked Thane/Verbal, I we got them lynched as mafia. Durin was town, Wombrej third party. It's not setting up lynches if it works, but it gives me a smaller pool to work with for POE. I'd be an idiot if I thought it would be smart to just start tearing through all the hydras massacre style.

1. Villager by a very wide margin. The part of the game that interests me is figuring out people and their habits and why they do what they do. POG legionnaire Carl_Spackler defined how I feel about being a wolf better than I ever could: "it is something unpleasant we must do now and then to allow this beautiful game to run"

 

2. I think one of my bigger strengths as a villager is understanding who is a villager (through tone, ranges, comparative interest level, etc.) and building a cohesive core of players to help lead the game around and set a strong PoE. This can be difficult in larger games, which is typically why I am a more of a vanila game ~13 player type werewolf player. But I vastly prefer to have a core of players I trust and work with as opposed to working by myself. Not only does it help you find more intelligent suspects and narrow down your pool to the point where you have a better chance of ultimately being right, but it's just more fun. I've always viewed it as a team game first in either alignment.

 

3. Hopefully by being right and by garnering enough support for it to matter. I stress making correct, intelligent reads and if not outright finding wolves at least helping other players come to the same conclusions you have. Generally in larger games I think it makes more sense to find high-level wolf candidates then work from the bottom and find villagers as I would in a vanilla game, just because in order to conventionally "solve" the game you need to find an excessive amount of villagers early and even I'm not arrogant enough to think I can clear like ~10 people on day 1. Trim the fat and make the game more workable and sustainable for later players.

 

4. Ends justify the means, imo. Some people are more straight-lace here and prefer villagers to never lie for any reason, but I'm more of "if you know what you are doing and you are right, go ahead". Pulling a gambit and being wrong can be extremely destructive (ask someone about Myndrunner's dreamer gambit if you want a laugh), so hopefully you are confident you are doing something in the best interest for your team. Have a way out if you're wrong. Etc.

 

5. I have played forum Mafia for about 3 years now and have played IRL mafia/werewolf for about seven years. I play in 6-7 forums, so we probably know eachother or know players mutually just because I've been around a lot. I know almost every player in this game and have extensive experience with quite a few.

 

6. I will pretty much always use villager/wolf out of habit when this forum is a town/scum/mafia type lingo place, but I don't think this community really cares much what you use. If they can tolerate the things I say, they can tolerate the things you say.

 

Now your turn :)

 

1. Not sure about Celeste, but I've actually never played as 3P. So I don't know how it feels like. I cannot be a speshul snowflake now who says she likes 3P.

I actually haven't played that many games, so I'm not sure which alignment I enjoy more.

But a) both can be a lot of fun, as long as you can scheme and plot. b) both can be really, really dull...

I just like having good reads and getting those that aren't of my alignment lynched/NKed. 

2. I really like having someone to trust, because I'm a really paranoid player and keep second-guessing myself. It's good to have Celeste with me. But if no one wants to be my friend, I work alone. That usually ends up in me getting lynched, though. It's quite unfortunate.

3. I don't know yet... I'll try not to postwhore too much. I'll try to provide good reads and analysis. 

4. Agree with ends justify the means. If you can pull off a gambit, it's fine! The purpose of Mafia is to have fun and if you win, that's even better.

5. I have played forum Mafia for exactly 3 completed games, one unfinished, and two currently in progress (this site and on my home site). I have played IRL Mafia for a long time, because it's apparently a favorite among all my friend circles. I also started playing ToS, which is sort of different, but yeahhh it's kind of similar too... Have not played with anyone else here except for Celeste, and I also suck at reading her.

I'm not liking Hallia's reaction towards Kivam/Mish.  She brought up two reasons for voting them - Kivam's policy lynch vote for Andrej and Mish's defensiveness regarding her response to Laine's proposal to lynch all hydras.  Hallia addressed the part about the policy lynch - because she feels it's an easy way to hop on and stay on Andrej's train.  I'm neutral on that response - it is, but it really only works for day 1.  But what about the part regarding Mish?  She changed their vote, and while it did come across as defensive, you can't say that Kivam/Mish's vote has stayed parked on one person as Hallia is claiming it would be easy to do.

 

Between the Kiv sass and Mish's defensiveness, that is the way to go for now until I see anything better.
