The level of meta-hunting, soul-reading, "give me links to games where you were scum and town" in this joint has officially reached ridiculous levels.

Make it so, whoever's next in the mod queue

An all gimmick game sounds good but people tend to break their character asap to clear themselves as villagers

Also we would have to host it elsewhere as alts aren't allowed here

Alts are not only allowed here, but alt-accounts exist.

I don't mean "everyone create new accounts".  I mean that there are 22 existing Mafia-only accounts to which players can be assigned (Admins reset the passwords after every game using them).  Do a search in the member list for "mafia" and sort by "Ascending", you'll see them.  They are only allowed to be used for posting in the game they are being used in

Well, it's effective, so that's probably why it's popular

I can't stay in character in an alt tho I think

POG runs alt/gimmick games a lot

It's lazy, and assumes that you're playing with a group of shitty players who can't maintain consistency across alignments.

You've been away, and missed the few games where people were unable to follow simple instructions re: how to use the alts.

In response, I banned their use.  So yeah, Tommy is actually correct - the mafia alts are not allowed.

Oh, I get it now.

It'd be interesting, but I feel a lot of people could figure out who's who just by post style.

Potentially.

But when you run a blind signup (PM me if you are in), so the players don't actually know the player list, it lets people play without meta baggage if they want.  (I, btw, can't hide behind an alt; people just look for the account that didn't post on Shabbos.  But since I have no meta, that's fine ).  Gives people the freedom to change their games without people going "hey, you didn't do xyz last time you were town, you must be scum"

Seriously?  How the hell are people unable to follow basic instructions?

My guess is:

1.  they didn't read the instructions

2.  they did and didn't care

I'm pretty sure the last couple times an alt game was played here it went poorly.

If you're interested in playing an alt game and have enough people willing to play I have a forum you all can play on.

Personally I'm not a fan of alt games because they seem to turn into a game about getting around the alt aspect than actually using it as intended.

It's like someone says to leave them alone and you put your finger in their face and say "I'm not touching you!" well the point wasn't to not touch them it was to leave them alone but great job exploiting the loophole!

But yeah...

Easy enough to fix:

Put a rule in the game that simply says speculating on-thread about who is behind what alt will result in a modkill.

Boom, Done.

I don't think it's as easy as that.

A lot of people want others to know who they are.

And there's also people who will go yeah it's me if asked.

I mean you could ban all that sort of stuff but...I honestly think if you HAVE to (and you do) the people playing are missing the point and it's just not worth the effort to play that sort of game.

Like if you have to tell people not to yell and kick and scream to play a board game what are you even playing for you know?

Just my 2 cents.

Trying to understand how people think on a personal level and figuring out where they are unable to replicate their attitude across alignment doesn't seem lazy to me

In fact I think that's more work than using universal tells and hoping they apply

But that's just what I think and I'm just some guy with a Taco avatar

I agree with kivam here, I'm bored with meta and forced ranges

I don't think it's more difficult. It's pattern recognition. Automatic for me and other "N" "F" types.

As the mafia player pool shrinks we are gonna hit a wall where games are decided at the rand (if we aren't there already)

Posted

Isn't the answer to that... Everyone expands their wolf ranges?

With the same player base you basically can't stop this from happening unless you run nothing but gimmick games.

I mean rand is already a brick wall that decides plenty of things. What are you proposing is done? Or are you saying townies in the future should intentionally play worse to make games fairer?

you want an alt game? get DPR to run it. seems he is allowed. he ran Scooby Doo after all

DPR is on leave again, I'm assuming it's gonna be several months before he pops back up.
