I forget but why did they call the black tower the black tower

Speaking from the books: The Black Tower's name derived from Asha'man themselves, who began calling it such in contrast to the white tower of Tar Valon, where female channelers are trained.

It's entirely possible that the ominous association was intended by whoever it was who took up the name first... it's never explicitly stated, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was "Dashiva".

It's called the Black Tower because of the Ancient Symbol. Saidar is shown as a white flame (So the WHITE tower) and Saidin is a black fang (The BLACK tower)

yes contrast and obviously as the disc image is white and black it makes sense.

The disk, I suppose too, but I believe it was mainly because the Asha'man wanted to show they were the opposite (as in, the male version) of the White Tower. Now I think about it, it WAS thought of by the people who were there at the time, and with Taim and a bunch of others (like Dashiva) there were immediately darkfriends. That might've played a role too. I don't think we know the official reason.
