Happy with my partner's vote on Mynd. His idea of focusing on hydras only is terribad, his scumhunting in general is weak this game, he isn't prodding people like he normally does but is instead hedging his bets a lot. Also his overuse of flavor spec to decide how he feels about Red's claim is discomforting to say the least.

 

 

How am I hedging my bets?  Just because someone used that word doesn't mean it is true.  I've only now ##unvoted for the first time and AFTER a claim.  I've actually been much more consistent this whole game than most of the very HYDRAS you are saying I shouldn't be worried about.

 

Naturally, I assume all hydras would think that focusing on them would be a bad idea.  What is truly "terribad" is to allow the mafia this advantage. 

 

Consider this:  Which is most likely?

 

A) No scum among the 7 hydras

 

B) All scum among the 7 hydras

 

C) At least two scum among the 7 hydras

 

 

....and next question, if you would please humor me, of the hydras, which three would you say are the most scummy to you?

Pretty sure the only reason she isn't voting me is because her scum team told her I'll be too tough to mislynch. I notice she's quick to cast aspersions my way but careful not to act on them. And that seems odd given the amount of focus occupied by our two slots.

@ Des - it's just a generalized comment on how townies seem to be afraid to vote. I still think Red is scummy with her behaviors and is hiding behind being cautious with her vote because she's afraid she'd be judged. So basically - townies shouldn't fear it and scum tends to be more cautious.

And I agree 1000% with what you're saying here. Townies SHOULDN'T be concerned with how their vote appears, they should be concerned with catching scum. Scum are more likely to be hyper self aware, so townies exhibiting the same type of behavior is MORE likely to draw attention to them imo.

 

However, like I said, in the context this was brought up, it doesn't make much sense to make a generalized comment about townies... when the person in question seemed scummy to you.

 

Not sure what the VC is or w/e, but Leelou do you find Red scummy? Did you at the time of that post?

 

The amount of hydra discussion in this thread is absolutely absurd. "Gadgeting" is a good term for it. Reminds me of Darthe with his "mafia is just math!" nonsense. Reminds me of the inane gaming-the-game conversations that were brought up in the Champs game you were in, Des. 

 

Aye, the gadgeting stuff drives me crazy. Obviously I couldn't rail about it that game, since my teammate was the main offender of gadgeting, but yeah it's just making mafia something it isn't imo. Numbers and statistics will definitely be a part of the game, obviously. But constructing big concepts or ideas based solely off of maths or something is just entirely missing the point of the game.

6. Crayjay (Cory/Andrej) - half has been very passive this whole game, the other half has aggressively opposed the whole notion that there are hydras on the scum team.

11. Princess Verbalina of Kindelbury (Verb/Tina) - TOO quiet.  Verb rarely gets going until Day 2, but I'd expect more from Tina. 

12. Halleeloujah (Leelou/Hally)

Remember the nature of one who is scum.  They know they are scum and will act with that very thought in their scummy little heads.  They are inherently guilty and no matter how skilled they are as a player, there is always a tell in their responses.  They are motivated to distract, discredit, and destroy.  They want us to be single minded and easily led.  They don't want others to consider other possibilities that could result in their demise.

FYI: my WiFi network apparently has decided it doesn't like DM. Every other site I can access, but both my laptop and my phone when on my home WiFi connection will not load the site. Can get to it on the phone data network but that's it and it's really annoying me right now.

 

I won't be able to follow through on expanding reads without being able to reread the thread and/or do several ISO's. Sending an email to the help desk to see if there's anything I can do that I haven't already tried.

Are you sure it's the wifi? There's a certain time twice a day when DM doesn't load.

I believe it's around 3PM and 3AM my time right now but before the time changed it was 2 and 2.

Again, it is not HATE for the hydras...it is actually a quite creative game element.  It also allows for more active gameplay in that hydras can post day and night. You have a sounding board for theories and reads, which is way more than a singular vanilla townie has. 

 

This is also why having even just one on the mafia team allows for a terrible advantage.

 

Suppose the mafia want to bandwagon a town player, let's call him Robb Stark.  Normally, Robb would only have to defend himself against 5 people trying to spin his words around and make him look like the devil himself or the big bad mafia who couldn't quite pull it off.  Often, it would be even less than that because the scum like to distance themselves from each other to avoid suspicion of collusion. 

 

Now, if just one of the hydra slots is on the scum team, which is likely, now Robb has to defend himself from 6 people, picking apart everything he says or does to make him look scum.  It is more likely that two of the hydras are scum, allowing for as many as 7 players all ganging up on Robb.  We've all played with enough SHEEP players to know that if 7 people say the same thing, no matter how untrue, others (who wont bother to read the thread) will believe it.

 

It's not hydra hate I have.  Its scum hate.

One example of you hedging your bets is with Red. She could be scum, she could not be. You're just making ambiguous empty statements, and then flavor speccing instead of trying to use gameplay to flesh out your read more.

 

And I'm not playing that dumb game. Try harder to keep redirecting focus back to your bad idea about hydras. It amuses me.

 

Fact is, hydras don't really have any greater chance to be rolled scum or town, for each one individually. So all this gadgeting talk is essentially accomplishing nothing.

 

And fyi, hydras are actually a bigger advantage for town. More voices = more opinions being given and more eyes to look for stuff. It's like getting two scumhunters for the price of one. And if the hydra is scum, one of the heads will likely have to fall into #damagecontrol mode to try and defend their partner, giving another dynamic to potentially catch scum.

I think Nyn brought up how it also means twice the spew potential. Even if one head is great at mafia, it's unlikely both would be, one will slip, right? Scumchat usually isn't the mastermind utopia you're making it out to be anyway. People really overplay its significance. Most teams I'm on just #YOLO and hope for the best.

 

Scum hate is fine, but this is the most ridiculous justification for honing in on a specific group of players and assigning arbitrary significance to them. The hydras aren't any more or less likely to be scum than anyone else. Look for scum, hydras or no. You're making me guess whether you really believe this is helpful or whether you're just trying to ignore 2/3rds of the game to make it easier on yourself. Maybe you are scum and know there is no scum in the hydras. Maybe you are scum and know there are. The WIFOM potential is gross.

 

This is the last time I will be discussing hydras. Stop talking about hydras. Go read a stats book.
