well, i'll have to dissagree with you there

lotr had pretty much an all-star cast

legolas, and a coupe of the kiwi actors are the only really unknown ones of the lot

sean bean

liv tyler

cate blanchett

hugo weaving

ian holm

viggo mortensen

domonic mahonagen (big on brittish tv)

sean astin

there are so many more, i could go on and on,

these people are well recognised actors, and were that before lotr was cast

i dont know where you got that idea from, you need to see Elizabeth, Alien, The Matrix, Armageddon, goldeneye, Dont say a Word...

I'm saying there's nobody of the popularity of say Tom Crusie, Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, Russel Crowe, Resse Witherspoon, Lindsay Lohan, George Clooney, Julia Roberts, etc.

Yes, these actors are famous and a lot are recognizeable, but there's not real STAR in any of them. Hugo Weaving did Matrix, and Liv Tyler did Armegedon, but these people aren't at the calibre of any of those actors I named above. Peter Jackson wanted to make sure that he didn't have someone of that status because it would focus all the attiention to them.

I'm not saying the actors in LotR weren't well known, but there's not one of them who could be considered a BIG STAR... well maybe Liv Tyler, but not REALLY.

I just checked out the trailer for the movie, a scanner darkly...

Thats not true anime of course.. Its shot in realtime, then edited with a movie version of photoshop.. A special filter on it, like a stencil or something.. *gives it that brushed look*

that "A Scanner Darkly" looks pretty cool, its a pretty cool animation style..do you think they used a filter or they filmed it and had animators copy that...

and about the megastars you listed...i dont realy like any of them...and lindsey lohan is nowhere near the calibre of sean bean, or cate blanchett, she is a teen fad who will eventually starve herself to death and win a darwin award!

cate got a best actress bafta for elizabeth and an oscar for the aviator, they dont come much bigger.

well, youre right , a scanner darkly is not anime, but i wouldnt mind seeing a series for wot animated like that...

Well, no one in this day an dage would hire, artists to go through every single frame of the film and trace over it... No, what they did is have several people, go over parts of the film, frame by frame, and apply a special filter on it, to give it that look. As far as I know, there are no "camera filters" that would do that... Most filters just as far as I know, alter the lighting.. Though, if they used a special version of greenscreen, and the camera is hooked up through the computer.. it could do that all automatically, with out doing it by hand... The real person to ask about this is Jason.

no, no, ive done this to photographs with photoshop, so i know its possible i was just wondering because in the trailer, some of the lipsyncing was a bit funky, could just be my computer.

it would still have to be done frame by frame, and touched up.

You know, I really do want there to be a movie, and I don't think it would be too hard to cut parts of the books becasue there are some really long winded sections that talk about basically nothing. The fear I have is that they will end up like the Eragon movie (what were they smoking) but RJ did say that if a movie were to be made he would have to have a large role in it(kind of like JK Rowling's with the Harry Potter movies).

Everyone is dogging anime but they seem to forget that RJ and Co. would get some good bang for their buck with simple yu-gi-oh or whatever they are style card games  & other various assorted toys to go w/the more affordable anime/manga.  Cheaper and with an opportunity to focus more on storylines rather stage-props gimmicks and tracking down who the hell stole lindsy lohans donut that she wasn't going to eat anyways.  I hope you read me.

Personally,  Cartoon movies such as mentioned earlier: Princess Mononoke was awesome.  Personally, though.  My wife got me sucked into Charmed... and after being a Wot-head, I think I saw more into the story of Charmed than that which was originally included by A. Spelling.  Which is why I loved the series much more than my wife.  Not to mention Alyssa Milano~ Moiraine.. hmm.

Jim's son Brian took over, keeping it in the family.  The Muppet Treasure Island has some pretty funny parts in it.

I think that condesing the books down into movie won't be that difficult. The hard part, I think, will not be cramming everything in, in little 30second segments. Obviously some things could very easily be left out, but I don't see the movie being decent unless it's in the 3 hour range (LotR Return of the King length). If you were to cram everything into 30sec segments, it would be boring a confusing, and obviously seem very rushed. Conversations could be condensed or left out, or even included in other scenes instead and the same information would be conveyed in much less time.

I thought the movie Eragon is a perfect example of what shouldn't happen. The movie was much too short and everything was crammed in. If the movie had been in the three hour range things could have fit in much more easily and accuractly. For instence instead of having the dragon fly into the sky and land fully grown, they could have shown some scene of it being raised, or done a Rocky-type montage.

Another thing that is worrisome, is that they will change the characters unnecessarily. I hate when they do that and it completely ruins the movie.

But like I said, they could do a good movie version, they'd just need the right people to work on it.
