Cause I'm not character claiming. It's the most unreliable thing in mafia yet so many rely so heavily upon it. Can't tell you how many times I've been obviously town or see someone else that's obviously town, yet they claim a character that causes others to doubt them unnecessarily, leading to a fail on town's part. Last time I character claimed it just confirmed my feelings on the matter, since town almost mislynched at Lylo PURELY because of my character claim, which is just stupid. Never character claiming again.

Hard line stances are horrible and you know this.  You play how the individual game dictates you do otherwise it's a tactic to hide behind.  You are not being clear here.  If you are going to take the stance that you are a vig then you need to back it up with more information.

My character shouldn't be used to confirm my alignment, role, or wincon. Don't cry to me because I'm not making it easy to clear me. You should be able to develop a read on me based on my gameplay and the circumstances around my gameplay alone. That's kind of the purpose of the whole game dude. Who I claim to be theme wise shouldn't affect your read on me at all really.

 

If you think I'm scummy based on my gameplay, so be it. If your read on me is dependant on a character claim however, I can only sadly shake my head in your direction. I'm not trying to keep info away from town btw, or keep things around me clouded. My feelings on this matter have nothing to do with my current alignment, that I promise you.

I never said I was surprised when others asked for more clarification on my role, character, etc. Paranoia is def a town trait more often that scum, or at least what is shown on thread. So no, it doesn't surprise me that some have asked for more info. In those instances, I chose not to give more info because I don't think it would help town at all. Would it make my claim slightly more believable? Perhaps. But if it gives info to the mafia team that can hurt town, then I'd rather keep it to myself and prove my towniness in other ways.

 

If I have an "agenda" with my threatening to vig people, I think that agenda should have already been made clear by now. If you think it's a crappy agenda, well that's your prerogative.

The proof will be in the pudding. I know town hates dealing with uncertainties, and this situation would be slightly easier if I was confirmed or something, but I have my own reasons for playing my cards close to the chest. That will have to do for now.

Lastly for anyone saying I should jump to the front of the list if there aren't two kills or something: try rubbing two brain cells together till they generate enough heat to make the lightbulb over your head brighten somewhat.

 

Cause that kind of talk would literally set me up for one of the easiest mislynches ever for scum, if they have a Roleblocker or something. And whether or not I choose to kill someone is my choice as it is my role. I'm not going to kill someone just to try and prove myself (which it wouldn't btw, since peeps could then just start calling me a SK). If I choose to kill someone, it will be because I think it will be good for town.

 

In other words, if you're going to come @ me tomorrow, don't bring no weaksauce arguments like "We haven't seen two NK's yet" when it will only be D3.

I don't think my point was that the scum team would use it against me... I think there's some confusion here.

 

Others asked for more clarification on my role. I chose not to reveal more. I think revealing more at the time would have helped scum more than town.

 

You asked me for my character. I chose not to reveal, not because I think scum could use that info against me or town, but because I find scumhunting by character claims to be a really faulty and ineffective strategy in any game.

Eh, I can see how you might have come to that conclusion. In that sentence I was referring to questions about my role.

 

I had already made my reasoning clear about why I was choosing not to claim my character. It has nothing to do with this game in particular, I just find it weakens other players when they use/rely on it.

And to answer your question directly:

 

There actually are many ways that scum can benefit from learning characters of townies. Sometimes mechanics built in give them an advantage with that kind of info. Sometimes it can help them guess who the major town PR's might be. Plus, any townie that claims a character might possibly remove the chance of being able to counter-character claim a possible scum fake claim, if they weren't given safe fake claims by the mod or something.

 

That being said, I wasn't saying I wouldnt character claim because it can give the scum team info (even tho it would). I won't character claim because I think that removing that crutch will help raise the skill level in general in mafia. You don't like my stance? Sorry dude. But it ain't gonna change anytime soon.

Three things wrong with this.  

 

1) I would lynch you for attempting to mediate.  That isn't a town action, it is the action of someone attempting to fake being town.  I can explain this in more detail if needed.

2) Town won machine of souls and that is an entirely different scenario where we both knew who the mafia was and we all HAD to cooperate to win so we couldn't test the waters like we can here, making this argument logical fallacy at best and manipulative at worst.

3) This reads like a passive aggressive WHYME FRYME.  So with that in mind unvote vote Mish

The despo/csarmi thing looked like a great way to distract from scum hunting.  Their little argument had a good chance of dominating day 1 talk.  Falls right into the scum play book.

Another peace comment I hate.  Diggin way too much into that.

 

 

 

 

first regarding the CS/Despo thing. It looked like a staged affair as it was kind of out of the blue with it escalating in a unnatural way from my POV. I thought it might be a way to stall normal game discussion until CS asked to replace. I don't think he would do that if he was in the middle of a gambit. Now that doesn't clear either CS(now AJ) or Despot. I still have pings from both of them.

 

CS for his kneejerk LD style claim which always seems odd and forced to me. throw in a little whyme in his response to Pray and a bit of overdefensiveness in his general replies about the quick claim and there is a case there. Therewas also the fishing comment but since he hasn't watched the show as I took it he might not know

 

Despo may have slipped also. He said that if he was asked if he were scum he would just say "yes". Then also mentioned claiming 5th party or some other thing but not just saying that he was town in a normal way. That came across as freudian to me. Also he chose to vote Wombat for his post buddying Darthe but didn't even flinch about Lenlo blatantly buddying Darthe in his original vote.

 

Darthe actually is not looking like he is clearly mafia and is working. I did see the potential that she was trying to step in and look like a peace maker where she could later claim town on town violence. Unfortunately that would make me have to lean Despo town, so I am conflicted there. 

 

Did anyone else read TG's diagnosis for CS replacing out as him having TMI? It looked awfully detailed for someone not in the know.
