well, I cannot in good conscience vote Verb now that he has claimed.

unvote

Well, looks like the jig is up for me. I have no role, I am vanilla, so the town will not lose much with me. I hope my lynch will provide you with information. I don't feel strongly enough about another lynch to vote for someone else, so I will remain unvoted for now.

Its hard to blame those few who have found me suspicious, because I have been acting badly... I can't decide if those attacking me are mafia looking for an easy lynch or town going after someone who is suspicious..... likewise i cannot decide if Des is town for defending me or mafia trying to gain town cred by defending a townie.

For those wondering why I didn't reveal before:  not sure if you've ever seen it, but town loses a lot when Doc is outed on D1.  Like, a lot.  I was hoping to avoid having to reveal.

Now once Cop is out, I'm playing WIFOM with scum every night.

Perhaps my "lazy town" comment seems a little more appropriate, yes?

yes yes but you could have NOT softclaimed and then I at least probably wouldn't have voted for you. Do not blame us for your mistake.

and goddamnit cut the condescending crap. what is a softclaim then, oh mafia master?

This is bullcrap.  If you really wanted us to get info from your lynch, you would vote someone or offer reads.  What you're doing is hoping that people shift somewhere else and you don't have to link yourself to anyone before you die.  Get some reads out now.

sure it is.... it is saying that you have a role without saying what the role is

by saying "oh no please let me reveal before you lynch me" you achieve the exact same effect as saying "don't lynch me! I have a role"

Sure, the first one means that you possibly intend to tell your role later, but not necessarily if you are lying, and anyone who asks for your role after saying that you will reveal later is "rolefishing", so there is no obligation for the player to reveal after saying "please let me reveal" because people will ideally stop voting for them, just like if someone had said "dont lynch me i have a role"

I agree with this.

Mentioning you have a role to reveal, or implying it, IS a soft claim.

Nonsense.  Everyone has a role.  Vanilla is a role and can be revealed.  I've said stuff like Verbal did when I've been vanilla before just to throw the scum for a loop.

Nice reasoning. I find it interesting you could probably post a 40 page essay about your menu choices at Golden Corral, yet your explanation for my vote is a "feeling" and encompasses all of one line. For you, that's equivalent to a vow of silence and reeks.

I lol'd.

Well, Ishy definitely seems suspicious to me, going after me with no real explanation and sort of just following what other people do. He also sided with Verbal over this softclaim thing, which I find odd. Hasn't really contributed much or done much scum-hunting from memory, but forgive me if I am wrong.

Technically speaking, soft claiming COULD also be construed the same way- trying to throw the scum for a loop. However, I believe soft claims in general hurt town, and are often used by scum (like for instance by my teammate Peace in the recent Walking Dead game).

And yes, vanilla is a role, but the manner in which Verbal fearmongered about his lynch STRONGLY hinted that he had more than a VT claim waiting for us. It was a soft claim in my mind. And I still dunno bout his Doc claim. I think he might have gotten sick of fake claiming Cop, decided to fake claim Doc instead since it's less likely to get a CC.

Pfffft. Golden Corral is awful. I don't even like Cracker Barrel, but they're much better. In general I hate "down home southern cooking!" type restaurants, they use crap tons of MSG and their food STILL doesn't taste good. Down home southern cooking is like an excuse to make crappy bland food that also happens to be bad for you.

As for you Golden, true, you did mention that you got mugged in the BT game I believe, kinda forgot about that in here tho. And yeah, I can understand what you mean about knowing a Cop claim would save you. I still think your reactions to votes is too abnormal to be explained by those two things however. And Ihave already mentioned several things this game that seemed off about both Leelou and you since you replaced in, I didn't see a need to give a lengthy explanation, especially when the deadline was coming up, we just had a doc claim, I had already mentioned you as one of my top choices for scum, AND I was getting ready to go to Chuckie Cheese. My wot's are like the Spanish Inquisition. Don't start expecting them all the time.

My vote stays for now. Hoof needs to get out more reads tho. Ishy? That's it? Ftr, this fits Hoof's town meta to a frikkin "T". No offense, Hoof, but you make a terrible townie. Don't like it but not ready to lynch someone I have a town read on now.

OMFG.  I can't help if people think requesting the town not lynch me before getting my reveal is a softclaim.  I'm not sure Wombat can put it any clearer than he did.  If you want to choose to ignore it (Hoof & Des), that's your call.

Continuing to argue the point is just stupid.  I only fearmongered by warning town to not be lazy.  As pointed out, it could have been a tactic to mess with scum.  I had every intention to reveal before being lynched......but I wanted to try and get out of that and keep scum guessing.  If they shot at me to guess at Cop early on, well that would have been a no kill night, right?

Blackhoof seems mostly just uncertain.  He's looking better Day2 than Day 1, whereas Verb doesn't seem to be playing.

vote Verb

and I'm off to bed and am highly unlikely to be around for the lynch.

Putting Verb at L - 1 for dubious reasons then peacing out.  AWESOME!

um, was gone 4 in the morning over here, so I revoted in an effort to help achieve a lynch, on the person that was looking worse to me, before I disappeared.

Also, note that BFG claims that she's going to take a look at Hoof and get back to us after her trumped up WoT on Verb. We get half a sentence saying something about Hoof just looks uncertain or something. She made her mind up a long time ago, after a discussion in the QT. Lynch this turkey tomorrow.

Because Hoof hadn't added anything I thought warranted comment on since my last search on him, also, see above about the time.

You, my lovely dear, are scum. And will die tomorrow. Bank on it.

I have a town read on Wombat. He voted me both yesterday and today, casing me quite well both times.

Votecount
Cloud - Verbal, Andrej, Darthe, Blackhoof, Ishy, Des (6)
Blackhoof - Cloud, Wombat (2)
Pralaya - Goldeneyes (1)

Not voting: Pralaya, BFG

With 11 alive it takes 6 to lynch.

That's a lynch.

I could vote GE, Pray or BFG. All three seemed content to see that we didn't secure a lynch yesterday.

This is from the start of Day 2- despite all the scummy stuff i had done Day 1, Ishy doesn't mention me.

Vote Hoof.

then, out of the blue, he votes me

don't like Ishy at all.

Despite his claim, I still do not like Verbal.

Because it is a softclaim. How is it not a softclaim? It is telling us that you have a role but not specifying what it is. If that is not a softclaim, then what is? Is there a super-specific definition I am missing?

You even admit that you were hoping to avoid revealing your role. How do you not acknowledge that this is scummy? Are you telling me that if I or someone else said "Don't lynch me, I have a role!" you wouldn't just sit back and say/think "oh ok don't worry about telling us you are probably planning a ploy to fool the mafia, there is no chance that you are actually a mafia avoiding a counter-claim."

In a game of mafia, you cannot just assume that people are on your side and have the intentions that they say they have. That is mafia 101. So why are you annoyed at me, at us, for not believing that you are town?

You wouldn't just keep scum guessing (if you are town) you would keep town guessing as well. Surely you know this. Are you wilfully ignoring this basic fact?

No, he doesn't get it either.

Everybody has a role. To soft claim, you need to hint at a specific role. I did no such thing.

End of discussion.

Posted

Oh, so you are saying that the definition of "softclaim" is to hint at a SPECIFIC role, not hinting at having a (noteworthy, of course, you wouldn't have said that and claimed vanilla) role in general?

So you are saying that a softclaim would be, for example, saying "You would have to be SICK to lynch me...." implying that you are a doctor?

Well, if thats what you say, I must have been getting the definition wrong.

.....doesn't change that it was a scummy thing to do, of course, whether or not I got the semantics of the word right.....

Deliberately obtuse.

Arguing semantics.

Why couldn't I claim vanilla? Even VT doesn't want a blind lynch - they want to live and scumhunt. You may argue it was scummy - that's cool.

I'd respond with this: aren't lynch contenders each day usually not on the mafia's radar?
