Ways to improve the DM Mafia experience

In terms of activity I've been thinking that if you made mentors a must for inexperienced players then you would probably get a lot more discussion rolling. A lot of the time it's like you're arguing with the same 5 people every game. Instead of reading the thread and then not knowing what the hell to do, they can discuss with their mentor before they post. You can then say it with confidence avoiding the otherwise inevitable "Um, no? Noob." replies which I think holds a lot of people back.

Volunteers? It's not like they have to follow the game as a player would. Dishing out thoughts isn't relatively time consuming and it'll give the new player something to work with.

I've got a question btw. Why is it necessary to have maffia games hosted in other subforums? Couldn't they just be linked here?

Indeed.  Mandate is silly.  Also, any good mod should be willing to help a noob out a bit with general advice.

bc they're different everywhere. and some of them are on private boards I think.

I know I would volunteer to help if asked. *shrug* Costs nothing and takes nothing but willingness to implement.

 

So yeah. Maybe "mandate" is a strong word. But having that as an option for newbs isn't a big deal. I guess a mod could "mandate" a newb get some help from a vet in an advanced game [like the one Darthe and Wombat put together] if the mod thought a newb would need one. But I like the thinking.

On updates to the site:

 

- vote tag, not happening....just make vote have to be bolded.  Making them red is unnecessary.  I'll be asking Darthe/Wombat to allow me to bold only, as it is MUCH easier from the phone.  No tags needed, as DM already has what you need.

 

- timer, not happening.....just use the link Nolder used, or a mod can make a post stating the amount of time left.  We've survived just fine without it.

 

- ISO button......I want this.  I've wanted it for a while.  We used to be able to sort posts by person, but that went away in a prior version of DM.  I'll look into what it would take to have this back.
