In a game like that there's generally tons of stuff hidden, information from the mod can be a lie, innovative roles and all that jazz. One game I played had a guy having his alignment changed 3 times throughout the course of the game. Another example is having a SK who's's told he'll poison someone and they'll die and what he's not told is that the mod will roll a dice and that will determine how many days it'll take for his target to die. Things like that.

How to mod one I have no idea.

Sounds like the point of a bastard Mod game is that even the Mod doesn't know how to Mod the game

For the mod it is a way to be evil. I would equate to when you know you will get in trouble for doing something but the fun of doing it outweighs the punishment you get later.
