mason is a role that allows 2+ townies to privately talk to eachother

they also known that eachother are town.

what other connotations does it have? just that two townies know they're town or are there special powers or something?

is this like a cult or just.... a little bonus for town?

what kinds of things are basic strategies?

i was never good with strategy.... not in any game, could never learn chess, barely learned checkers. risk is out of the question.

is it something simple that can be explained or am i just not cut out for this thing?

Its fairly simple in mafia at times. For town, two main strategies. Confuse mafia on what is going on, and try to get mafia to slip. To do the first, you have to play to your meta, do what you would normally do not give them any hints to your role. Plus, if you want to, you can hint a role that you are not to attract the mafia NK. And for the other, try to judge reactions by doing different things, whatever you think of, but try not to make yourself look too scummy. Then you can case them.

Generally, a gambit is a strategy in which you make an immediate sacrifice in order to set up a future gain. The term comes from a variety of chess openings in which one of the players sacrifices a pawn or other minor piece in order to gain an advantageous position on the board.

The Kivam Gambit is a specific instance in which Kivam and Talya hard bussed each other from the very outset of a game. Talya was lynched and Kivam coasted to endgame, winning it for the mafia. This was obviously a very risky move. I've seen people try to copy it and fail miserably.

I've done that in so many chess tournaments. I won a tournament by sacrificing a queen and a rook. Sorry, off-topic.

Meta is how you normally play. Most of us have a town meta and a scum meta, meaning they do certain things when scum or town and that meta is how people judge whether or not they are mafia.

Scum = mafia, by the way, but you probably knew that one. ;)

I will be including a list of common definitions when I compile everything. Working graveyards next week so I should have time to make a new thread with all these ideas.

Cindy I think you vastly underestimate yourself. Also, I seem to remember you saying you've played one, where did you play it?

No, I didn't actually. I haven't been on there for a while since I was told to get off. I'm going to go check.

Cindy, I got lynched the first day on two of my first games, it happens :P I've signed up for... Six games now I think, in two I've gotten lynched day one, in one I had to back up, two I lasted sort of mid-way, one I got killed the last night of the game, and the one I'm playing now I'm soooo out of my league :P takes a bit of time to get a grasp of the game yeah, but it's still so much fun.

Cindy, I want you to try one game, and I want you to try your hardest. Just play it and see how you do. I am confident that you will do great.
