Can you give us some guidelines as well. How much are we allowed to say when we help out?

You can each set up your own Quicktime or if you would prefer, I can set one up for you. Mafia will have a general QT and my understanding of it is that the mafia team and their mentors all help each other but I will allow for a personal one with you and your mentee if you feel it will not be overly confusing for them. You may help them by explaining any form of game mechanic that you desire (how voting, roles, etc work) and by explaining common mafia strategies to them, even so far as providing your input on the best ways to handle situations as they arise (IE: someone just claimed doctor, this is why you should unvote them and what it means. These are the consequences of doing so or not doing so and players will typically react in this manner... etc). You may not use meta analysis to give your player an advantage if you happen to know how another player plays. You may not tell your mentee what to say or do at all (though I will allow discussing their options with them so long as they decide what they want to do). You cannot play the game vicariously through them or provide them with unfair advantages. Your goal here (and, to clarify, if they win you win on the mafia standings board) is to teach them the ropes and help advance how they see/play the game.

Examples:

 

Darthe tells his mentee, Jr. that since he is the cop he wants to attempt to draw players out that may be mafia without sticking out like a sore thumb: acceptable.

 

Darthe tells Jr. that he sticks out a bit and Darthe advises pulling back a bit in the game, or attempting things from a different angle: acceptable.

 

Jr. asks why and Darthe quotes his post, picking apart all traces of it that could be pingy or reveal him as a cop: not okay.

 

Instead, Darthe should tell him that his post reads too strongly because Jr, as cop, wants to avoid an NK and explains that his post read too strongly because he attacked a player with little reasoning: acceptable.

 

Basically, once you're telling them how to play it is no longer okay.

Got it! Also, if you set up the QT's and send them will the role PM's it might be easier for you to track them. Also, it ensures that nobody forgets to add you to the QT. Just from a mod perspective.

Quick question, hopefully which will not happen but with how games have been going lately it may just... If any of the mentored players are unable to continue and need to be replaced, are you going to try to find a replacement or just have the mentor step in?

I would like to thank Nolder for giving me the privlege of hosting this game.

It was initially his to run and due to an unfortunate computer malfunction he was able to do so.

Without him this concept wouldn't exist on our site.
