Does Nintendo Make Anyone Else Mad?

They are sitting on the hugest freaking gold mine and they do NOTHING with it

They have so many franchises that are beloved by millions but the only one they exploit is Mario and we love it

Mario Party is excellent and Mario Kart is super fun

I've also heard great things about the sports games such as the Olympics series and the Paper Mario series seems cute if nothing else

Even Yoshi and Luigi get their own spin off games from time to time

This is fantastic but why why WHY doesn't Nintendo do this with their other IPs?

Take Pokemon for instance

If you go onto gaming forums it's like every other month someone says "Hey what if Nintendo made a Pokemon MMO?"

Then the circlejerk of thousands clamor for it while coming up with simple and amazing ideas at how this could be made and implemented

But what do they give us? More or less the same exact story for a decade and a half on handheld and a handful of spin offs which are debatably mediocre at best

New Pokemon are great and I love them and so many improvements have been made on combat and graphics are getting steadily better but I want to do something MORE with the series, something DIFFERENT

Would an MMO be such a bad thing? Ok fine let's steer away from the MMO idea

Let's take one of those mediocre spin offs, Pokemon Snap

It's a fun game but ultimately there wasn't a lot to do really

Take the concept, slap a better story on it, put it on the Wii U in 3D and use the Wii U's controller as the camera

HOW AMAZING WOULD THAT BE?!

God damn Nintendo just let me give you my money

Why don't you want my money Nintendo? It's green and delicious and makes you rich

Just give me my fix

Make a Pokemon MMO

Make a Donkey Kong RPG

Make a Legend of Zelda Tactics game

Make a DDR knock off with Kirby

Just do it you bastards!

I would probably buy any and all of those games. I just don't understand why it takes so long to get the games out. I know it's only been a year since Skyward Sword, but it seems like forever! Why haven't they released one for the 3DS yet? Spirit Tracks was in 2009! That's forever ago!

I agree with Red that Zelda tactics might not be the best, but I'd still buy it.

Theres a reason I completely abandoned all Nintendo IP's by the end of the N64. It was fairly obvious by that point they were just going to keep exploiting the same old series over and over and over again...

I once made a statement.

"If Nintendo released a paper bag, with a Super Mario Brothers World 3 on it, and inside was a pile of dog crap, they could still sell it for full retail of $120 as a collectors edition"

That point is still true today.

I don't know

It's not like these games are known for their cutting edge graphics

But WHY do they do this?

They have to know they could in fact sell us dog crap and bill it as a Pokemon MMO and make millions and win awards and be loved by gamers the world over

Why don't they do it?

It's like watching someone lay down and drown in a puddle inches deep

It's just so mindbogglingly stupid

dude Skyward Sword just came out. a new mario bros game just came out for the 3DS. and they just re-released oOT for the 3DS.

the new DKC came out a year ago as well. not to mention the New Kid Icarus game and Castlevania.

if anythign, theres more clamour for remakes of older games, like Earthbound and Megaman.

as for Zelda games, they only release one of those when new technology for the system comes out.

dude Skyward Sword just came out.

It came out last year...

And also it's the same old LoZ game

Yeah maybe they switched some things up and there's improvements and whatnot but it's just gonna be an action adventure where Link needs to save Zelda somehow

a new mario bros game just came out for the 3DS.

I don't plan on getting a 3DS unless a ton of money falls into my lap

It's just not worth it

The whole 3D thing is such a gimmick

and they just re-released oOT for the 3DS.

Does it sound like I want remakes?

the new DKC came out a year ago as well.

Two years ago and it while I did enjoy it considering I hadn't played a DKC game since the SNES era it also seemed a tad too easy so was a slight disappointment

And, again, this isn't doing something new with the IP it's the same old stuff rehashed

not to mention the New Kid Icarus game and Castlevania.

I've never played either series but I'd be willing to bet both games are either remakes OR bring nothing new to the table regardless

if anythign, theres more clamour for remakes of older games, like Earthbound and Megaman.

I wouldn't mind remakes so much if there was also something new

I love some older games but am I ever going to get a new experience from Nintendo?

Yes but it's always the same genre

Give me a LoZ FPS lol

okay how about putting it this way.

why fix what isn't broke?

people will buy the remakes and new title names even if they are rehashes (and btw, since when has a LoZ game or Mario Bros game not been the same old story?) of the same old story.

until this changes, Nintendo has no incentive to invest developement into a new angle for a story and plot that work

It's not about fixing anything it's about making more money

If you admit that people will buy any game with a Nintendo franchise slapped onto it then why don't they do that?

Because by rehashing the same ole, they effectively cut down on R&D costs, development costs, storywriting costs. More profit, less overhead.

And Nintendo as a game studio can only put out so many games per year...

If anything, what Nintendo lacks is alot of Third Party developers that both sony & microsoft have completely leached off of NIntendo.

That actually sounds like a reasonable and likely explanation

I am still not happy about it though

that and they just lack the graphics and ability to compete with the likes of Sony and Microsoft. Nintendo has foudn its niche, family games and handhelds. its a modle that works and makes them profit and keeps 80% of their base happy

IMO Pokemon doesn't have an MMO because the fans would love it too much

They would essentially abandon the main series of games on the handhelds because an MMO allows them to be much more directly involved with the community which is really what Pokemon is all about
