Activity levels would suffer I think.

Maybe

I think it's debatable since often times there are 4 games going on in the main board and 1-4 games going on in the social groups not to mention any games some of us play offsite

I think people who are going to be inactive are inactive in all games

I do know that personally my gameplay suffers the more games I am in but my activity usually stays roughly the same

True. I think the basic games seem to be getting more advanced

I still believe there should be three different categories: Basic, Standard, and Advanced

We tried that. A few times.

This was the result. Each time.

I think we should be able to point out those for signups, but what we should do is have 2 basic or standard games and 2 advanced or epic games to play at a time. That way people would be better prepared and we wouldn't have such a big gray area.

Basic = Standard and Advanced = Epic. Semantics.

The current method works best out of the many methods that were tried and discarded. If this board was overflowing and too big for itself, then I'd consider alternatives. Until then, we're good.

Thoughts on a new scum role.

There have been times, as scum, I thought it might be beneficial to Nk one of our own if their coroner report would flip town. This sacrifice could be used to set up town players for lynches.

Also, the role would also be given the option to change the coroner report on a scum mate once per game if that player is night killed by a vig or sk.

A further option would be to change one flip when a scum mate is lynched.

Thought?

It's a lie from the Mod. Therfore borderline bastard.

So is godfather or silver tongue. It's not a lie it would be a limited use role that has negative consequences for the scum team. After all you would have to kill one of your own to do it.

Nah, because Coronor reports are permanent and mess with the core game play. They aren't role based to individual players.

Nothing bad about Bastard mods, it's a legitimate mod style, but the game better be marked experimental or the rules would need to have a clause that allows the players to know something is up.

I wouldn't consider it bastard if you warned the players about it and maybe also included a coroner type role that could see through the deception.

Also, a similar effect could be achieved by using an entirely non-bastard role in the janitor role. If a kill is janitored it is usually assumed the killed player was town, so it could be used to de facto make a dead mafia player appear town. It would be an extreme sacrifice though as janitor is often used in role-heavy games as a way of providing the mafia with a fake claim.

Also, not all mod lies are bastard modding. Sometimes the mod needs to lie. The point is, the lies must be used sparingly and in a way that improves the game and doesn't make the players lose trust in you.

For instance, when I told Mynd and Aemon they were the Dragon Reborn (when Key was actually the Dragon) in my huge WoT game ages ago, I don't think anyone thought that was bastard modding. But if you remember, I also hinted at the possibility of False Dragons in the rules and it was a lie that enriched the players' experiences imo rather than spoiling it (although if I had to do it again, I wouldn't have saddled Aemon with a naive role).

Agreed. And as to your WoT game, that fit the theme as False Dragon's wouldn't know they were false and there were hints in the rules about false dragons. Mods can lie and be tricky. Like my Smash Bros. game in which I came as close to the line as possible by giving everyone Mason roles in pairs and starting everyone as town then converting the select people after the game actually started.

But, I find Coroner's to be sacred ground unless there are Coroner roles involved or warnings implemented.

Tossing these out there: A role that can resurrect a dead player. But they get no vote once raised.

A role thief, steals the targeted player's PR.

A role nuker, completely removes a PRs role.

Probably already been done, but why not mention them.

Agree with this.  As the only one around here to have modded several bastard games, I can say with confidence that the role better be known ahead of time.  Messing with a coroner report that goes to the entire player base is not good if they have no reason to believe they can't trust something that is considered gospel from the mod.

I've really never understood why people want 570342574 roles in every game.  At that point, it isn't even mafia anymore.  Why bother?
