OK, so Verb got a little mad, so now we will move the discussion to here. Suggest role ideas if you have any!

1. Switcher - 1-shot makes anyone who used an NA reflect back onto themselves without notifying them of it.

No, I mean that everyone in the game that used an NA that night will have it reflect back onto themselves, no matter who they targeted.

thats a bastard role. how would you balance it??

edit - i dont mean that to come off as obtuse or combative, just a gut reaction to it. nothign wrong with bastard roles, so long as they aren't used in excess. liek a niave cop and such.

dont we basically have a thread like this?? like "DM created roles" or soemthing

I like that thread to be reserved for roles that were actually used for reference. I think of this as a brainstroming thread.

I think that role might work out if it were only to be used on one person and not EVERYONE... maybe... 1 Shot Role Reflect?

Effectively it would make it a devious roleblock.

well its more anti-town than town. and how woudl it effect the Mafia NK (whcih usually isn't assigned to 1 specific person)

edit -

but then theres no reason for it to be 1 shot

reflector might do, thoguh i think more of a Mirror role rather than this when i hear the name

edit 2 - i think this role coudlnt' be given to scum, no way to balance against it. it shoudl be a 1 use to a Solo Survivor (similar to the type of role used for Nol in the JP game)

edit 3 - or used to balance out the town against an under powered scum team (kinda like throwing in a niave cop or Miller or BP or Town RB)

Well, from what I have seen, it affects the person who submits it. And it could be used either way, since if town uses it, they will most likely kill a mafia, it would be a really powerful role, because it almost guarantees one mafia dying.

Ooh, that could be a good idea, so target one person and their action reflects back onto themselves, but they're not notified of it, so if cop is reflected back onto themselves, they think whoever they targeted is town.

This thread is fine, but I'm gonna carry over some grumpiness to it.

The reason why many games splutter and die is due to balance issues and game setup issues. The less crazy roles and the more actual mafia being played, the better.

Example: don't you get a greater sense of satisfaction by winning a vanilla game than a game where you're mostly lucky that your role didn't bump up against another role that could kill it? The kitchen sink games are won more by luck - vanilla games are pure skill.

I don't agree with this

I believe it has more to do with inconsiderate players and inattentive mods not setting and enforcing deadlines

I agree

At the same time, I enjoy figuring out what new dynamics there are, never being able to expect what comes next. Keep everyone on their toes.

I agree, more skill is needed in vanilla games, but sometimes you just want to have a lot of fun with roles and have this great role which you are so excited about.

i like to limit my crazy kitchen sink games to the social groups and the hardcore more skill based games here. That being said, I can't resist throwing in at least one twist.

I agree with both of you guys, but we seem to have more kitchen sink games lately.

They both are huge reasons. But you can have the most attentive mod and playerbase ever, and still have issues due to players feeling that the cards are stacked against them. Experienced mods know how difficult it is to properly balance a game.

No battle plan survives first contact with the enemy. ;-)

I still believe there should be three different categories: Basic, Standard, and Advanced
