Length of the ending

One thing that has me worried about this last book, and my worry has been growing as Brandon gets closer to finishing it, is how much there is going to be after the big climax. For example, at the end of Harry Potter and the battle between Harry and Voldemort, there is ~25 pages before the end of the book. When I first read the book, I was incredibly disappointed and felt that we were given the climax that we waited years for just to have the book end abruptly. While I don't think a Lord of the Ringsian 100 page finish after the destruction of the ring is necessary, a good 50-60 pages I think would be greatly appreciated.

Am I crazy or am I on to something?

I would like to see it broken into quarters.

1/4 of the last book dedicated to pre-final battle stuff.

1/4 of the book for the ancillary battles and secondary characters.

1/4 of the for the primary characters and the final battle.

1/4 of the for the aftermath and the Dragon's Peace.

Brandon has said that Rj wrote not only the climactic scene, but also a number of short scenes after that which will be formed into an epilogue. RJ always said he intended to take us to the Last Battle and a little ways past.

AUSTIN MOORE (23 SEPTEMBER 2011)

You recently said you were just over 60% finished with A Memory of Light; how much % will RJ's ending take up when you put it in?

BRANDON SANDERSON (23 SEPTEMBER 2011)

I'm guessing about 10%.

AUSTIN MOORE

Is it gonna get slid right in or are you going to adjust it some to fit into how you're leading up to it?

BRANDON

The ending scene will work fine, no changes. I've targeted things that way, as I didn't want the ending scene to change.

BRANDON

However, he left a TON of 'after the end scene' type stuff that is probably epilogue material. That I'll need to modify.

I would like to see 7% dedicated to the prologue, but 8% dedicated to Loial in the prologue.

I'd like to see 1% dedicated to Egwene and Gawyn's wedding, where Bran and Marin Al'Vere are allotted all but 0.012% of it.

I'd like to see Rand and Aviendha's reunion take up 1%, but you can up it to 9% if it's a reunion with Elayne and Min that includes a menage-a-quatre. With pictures.

I'd like to see the Field of Merrilor take up 20%, but you can reduce it to 15% if the Seanchan skip and increase it to 25% if Padan Fain shows up with his undead Trollocs.

I'd like to have Tarwin's Gap take up 10%... and not a percentage point more!

I'd like to have The Last Battle take up 75% of the book, because it's gonna be ka-razy.

I'd like to have Rand's death scene take up 33% of the book, so it can be more like Titanic and Leonardo DiCaprio's death scene.

I'd most like to see Perrin Aybara wave good-bye to Mat as he sails to Seanchan with Tuon, and then ride slowly home to Emond's Field. He'll plop himself down into his chair and say to Faile, "Well, I'm back," for the last 11% of the book.

I think 100% of the book should be Faile getting kidnapped again with Perrin chasing after her. Rand then balefires her at the end and the DO gives up, thankful to find that they all actually wanted the same thing. A Wheel without Faile's thread.

I could live with that, but the DO should actually shakes Rand's hand. Maybe give him a high five, even.

If we are going to be talking about percentages, then I think Brandon should just have finished the Final Battle and the last 8% of the book should be wrap up. His two Wheel of Time books were around 800 pages so that last 8% should be 64 pages.

Swap in Elayne and or Egwene and I could be okay with that.

And Terez, that is very good news that there is so much after the end stuff.

that goes for a total of 181.012 %. You sure you want aMoL to be split?(again).

Well, what I gathered from the post is that "Rand's Death" could be occurring slowly during Egwene's marriage.

I don't think Rand is dying while Egwene is marrying, unless it's because he's asked to officiate (being the only person more powerful and influential than Egwene) and he tries to crack a few jokes.

On a serious note, won't the wedding be fun if it means that Mat and Egwene see their families again? In light of that, I'll up my wedding allocation to 3%, but the ceremony should be offscreen.

I repeat, reunions fun, weddings boring.

Maybe Perrin can officiate, "You're married. Now piss off," works for me.

I would buy 3 copies of the book if this is the case... ;)

Oh man, among the many things I'll miss when WoT comes to an end is the comfort of knowing that people will always unite in slagging off Faile. Honestly, what's going to happen when all the Faile/Egwene/Gawyn haters don't have this forum as a place to vent their spleen any more, and have to take their frustrations out elsewhere?

I'm telling you - we're looking at the Breaking all over again

I have to say that I always wanted the last pages to be couple thousand years in the future. Something along the lines of Rand-reborn channeling for the first time or becoming AS (while thinking about Rand, but something that is distorted by time and not completely accurate), or maybe even a person in "our-like" age to channel for the first time. Kind of speaks about no "the beginnings" (at least to me). ;)
