Thanksgiving Poem

The day of thanks is here once more

After hours of driving you reach the door

Put on a smile, give a nod of your head

Pray that the small-talk lasts till you're fed

 

Take off your coat and join the crowd

Everyone's talking and it is way too loud

There is your aunt with a glass of red wine

she's had too many but she's feeling fine

 

Your mom's in the corner eyeing your wife

She still can't believe that she's still in your life

She smiles and nods and now the fun starts

Your job for the day is to keep them apart

 

Your brother complains that he has no job

But its only because he's a lazy slob

No one will say it, they just wish him well

All this fake chatter is annoying as hell

 

The turkey is ready so you sit at your seat

Now you wait for your dad to carve the dry meat

You drown it in gravy to make it go down

As the full bowl of buns is passed around

 

Everyone says thanks for good in their life

When she isn't looking, your mom glares at your wife

As you load your plate with far too much food

You suddenly realize you're in a good mood

 

The plates are cleared and the pie comes out

Pants are unbuttoned for those in doubt

The laughter starts, you can't help but join in

But it's time to go as the fun starts to begin

 

It's hugs all around as you get dressed to go

Dreading the drive home that you know will be slow

Even after all the stress in the weeks before

Somehow you can't wait for Christmas to do it once more

I find all holidays where are family gathers go something like this, but I guess that's what makes them magical! I hope you all ended up enjoying your holiday and for those who are waiting on the next family get together, I hope it goes as well as the poem above...cause lets face it..that's probably the best case scenario!
