But are you STILL town?

It is Night 3, and ishy revealed you two day 2. Verb may have been recruited night 1, leaving last night and tonight for cult recruits.

Unless the cult is being tricky and NOT recruiting you two to make WIFOM by dawn both red and des will be culted

Ok, so, with cult in play, the game looks something like this atm:

Wombat, town, I think

Vambram, not sure

Hoof, not sure

Ishy, Finder

Karas, not sure

BG, town, I think

Raena, not active enough to get a read

Barm, possible mafia

Ama, not active enough to get a read

Red, possibly recruited

Ed, town?

Des, possibly recruited

Lanth, went AWOL, maybe he was recruited and didn't like it?

There's 14 of us left, we have cult and mafia (I assume), so I'm guessing out of 14 players, we have 4-5 mafia, and 2-3 cult. Which leaves 6-8 town, if I figured it correctly.

What do you all think?

4 mafia and 1 starting cultmaster is about 1/3 of the game so yeah, that seems right.

Actually wouldn't 4 mafia and 1 starting cultmaster make 1/4 of the game?

Will a doc's protection affect cults ability to recruit? And will roles still work after cult recruits said roles? First game with cult so please excuse me questions.

No clue, my first cult game too.

Woooo!

All right, now that I'm back, I can share my thoughts on the developments since my untimely demise.

(Well, I myself am back, but no, I'm obviously not the same game-person as before, so erase all preconceived notions surrounding me, if there were any. XD I get to try and fill Lanth's shoes now, woo!)

ANYway, my thoughts thus far:

Okay, most of what I have to say revolves around there being a cult in this game. First of all, I'm probably a pretty rare player in that I actually don't mind cult games, sometimes I even enjoy them. A lot of people hate mods who throw cult in. I think it's exciting and raises the stakes a lot. Probably my favorite/best game ever was a cult game (Harry Potter Mafia in the Blue Ajah modded by Jack D when he was dragonsworn1991, a couple years back; it was epic).

My initial reaction when I saw the coroner report on Verb was "There's a CULT in this game?!?!" I yelled it out loud, too, my family can vouch for that. I totally didn't see that one coming, Lily, you sly ModGoddess you.

On to my game-relevant thoughts.

Ishy, my earlier stance on how to handle your finder results stands, but having experience with cult games, I do have a few additional thoughts. Now, we can't trust any town viewings you have if they're more than a day old. You may have to view people more than once until the Cult Leader is eliminated; I'm not going to try directing your actions at all, so no worries about that, but just be aware that in a cult game that is totally normal. You just don't know who will be recruited, so if someone you can confirm was town at first starts acting strangely, don't hesitate to view them again if that's how you think you should proceed. Just some general advice on Finders in Cult Games.

Now, as general advice to everyone else; we instinctively want to trust the Finder, but be aware that Ishy will be a prime candidate for a cult recruit. I don't think he's cult as of this post, but we can't take anything for granted. It's terrible that we had a Finder reveal so early in the game, when we didn't know there was a cult. But it happened, so now we get to deal. Starting now, we need to cult-hunt as a first priority. Cults have a big advantage in that they can recruit; they're scarier than traditional mafia in a lot of ways. Theirs is an invisible majority; they can win the game without alerting anyone to their presence if the chips fall that way.

Er, enough doom-and-gloom preaching. XD Practical cult-related stuff. We don't know how their recruits work, or anything. Cult can be run differently depending on the mod. It's not uncommon to have conditions on recruiting, such as Odd nights only, or only if there was a lynch, or if one of their members was voted for by someone not cult during the day; stuff like that. Sometimes Cult recruits lose former abilities, sometimes certain roles (such as mafia) cannot be affected by cult recruiting activity, sometimes the healer can protect from recruiting and sometimes not. My point is, we just don't know, so we should just assume for now that the cult can recruit anyone, every night, as long as their Cult Leader is alive. That's the safest way to proceed.

Now, non-cult-related stuff..... I personally think that we have a SK or maybe a vigilante in the game, not a mafia enhancer or the terrifying possibility of a cult kill (alternating nights with recruit, if so). I'm gonna lean toward vigilante at this point, because we have a mafia and a cult; SK would seem kinda anti-town heavy. Also, there's only been one extra kill so far, which I think supports that theory. We'll have to wait till morning to get any sort of a NK pattern, though, so my position isn't set in stone. We'll see.

Er, now my post was probably TL;DR for most of you. So I'll conclude for now; if I think of anything else I'll post again, but yeah. XD And I posted this stuff now, during Night, because it would just be the most ironic thing if I got NKed AGAIN. XD Better safe than sorry, I always say.

Oh yeah, so I agree that we probably have 2-3 cult at this point, and an additional come morning, unless a cult recruit gets killed by mafia tonight. XD

Could be 1 cult leader to begin with, but wouldn't be surprised if the CL had one follower to start with. So numbers are variable. I think Sakaea's general picture of the game is looking about right at the moment.

Personal opinion.

Only thing I can add to Meesh's post, which laid out pretty good info for dealing with cults imo, is that in games I've played with cults the Cult Leader has always been one of either the most inactive members (doesn't talk much), or one of the least suspicious players, someone who's always careful in avoiding ping by never coming down that hard on anyone with a FOS. Cult isn't like mafia in that it's always beneficial to them to lead a lynch a certain way, they can hang in the shadows a lot more as they let their numbers build.

Sooooo, if we're making the cult our main priority for now, we can't hold too closely to the cases we've somewhat built on some of the more high-profile players and look at EVERYONE's behavior and voting patterns.

Dammit. While do Cops view me once I am cult? Can't you view me before?!?!

*shakes dead fist*

Sorry Verb, I've been checking the scummy-seeming players so far, and for once, you didn't seem scummy to me. But now that we know cult is a factor, I'll have to rethink my strategy.

 No surprises there....

Would it help if I quoted each paragraph one at a time for you? *bats eyelashes sweetly*

Right, I was thinking if maybe it wasn't a traditional healer per se, but maybe just a general protector? I've seen a few roles like that, but I can't remember their official names off the top of my head; others might.

And your idea of a cult doctor is possible too.

Still, I'm all for just assuming the cult can recruit absolutely anyone they want every single night, just to make sure we don't get complacent and are prepared for the worst. XD

In the morning, you gather as usual, and notice that your group is really getting smaller. After checking around in the forest, you discover a disturbing sight. You find a Phoenix lying on the ground, with a blank stare and her fire put out forever. Her soul is gone, just like the Djinn of yesterday.

phoenix-15.jpg

Red, Phoenix, Conversion Checker, town, has been killed.

You realize that everyone is still not all accounted for and go searching further. In a cave, you find the body of a Cyclops shot with an arrow through his eye.

CYCLOPS.jpg

Raena, Cyclops, mafia, has also been killed

It is now day 4. Deadline Tuesday 8PM MST. With 12 alive you need 7 to lynch.

btw, I am gonna guess mafia took Red out for being Findered by Ishy, and Vig/SK is shooting at quieter players to lay low.

Agree with me. :D
