So, I was expecting Krak to post something while I was away at the beginning of the week due to work commitments. But he failed. So, you will be getting another double dose of "Original vs. Cover".

But before that, time to announce the results of songs 93 and 94.

Don McLean scored a 3-0 victory for originals in song 93; and Jefferson Airplane secured a 3-0 victory for covers.

Song 95: ...Baby One More Time

The next song up is one of the best selling singles of all time, and the cover by a Scottish group. It's time for Britney Spears and Travis to go head-to-head as ...Baby One More Time steps up to the vote.

ORIGINAL: Britney Spears

This song happens to be one of the best selling singles ever, shipping over 9m copies.  It topped the charts in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the U.S, and every European country in which it charted. The song’s lyrics refer to breaking up with someone and regretting the decision. And released in 1998, it remains Spears' most successful single.

COVER: Travis

There have been numerous covers, and Travis' was one of the earliest. Played first during one of their concerts at "The Bay Tavern" in England, the song was then released on the 1999 single Turn. It is very different from Spears' version, being much slower and a lot darker.

Song 96: Nobody Does It Better

Song 96 sees the main theme song for the 1977 James Bond film, The Spy Who Loved Me. It features Carly Simon's original and the cover by English rock group, Radiohead.

ORIGINAL: Carly Simon

Thom Yorke, Radiohead's lead singer, called this "the sexiest song that was ever written". And that isn't a bad assumption. It is a truly beautiful piece of music. It happens to be the first Bond theme song to be titled differently from the name of the film. And it spent 3 weeks at number 2 in the US charts on its release.

COVER: Radiohead

After Yorke's comment (see above), Radiohead then went and played a rock cover version of the original. Over the years, the English group have proved to be very successful, first in the UK and then internationally.

Time to wrap this up, and then pass it into Krak's capable hands for one turn only to allow him to complete his week he started many moons ago!

So, Britney secures a 5-1 victory for originals in song 95.

And in song 96, Carly Simons gives originals another victory, winning 4-2.

Time for Krak to entertain us!

HELLZ YEAH.  For the next few days, I Rulez this thread!

Song 97:Hairshirt

Song 97 is a beautiful song written and performed by R.E.M, and was one of the first songs by R.E.M to feature Peter Buck's Mandolin; a sound that later became very predominant in their music.  This song is beautiful in its simplicity and purity.

ORIGINAL: R.E.M.

R.E.M. is an American rock band formed in Athens, Georgia, in 1980 by Michael Stipe (lead vocals), Peter Buck (guitar), Mike Mills (bass guitar), and Bill Berry (drums and percussion). R.E.M. was one of the first popular alternative rock bands, and gained early attention due to Buck's ringing, arpeggiated guitar style and Stipe's unclear vocals.

COVER: Swell Season

The Swell Season is a folk rock duo formed by Irish musician Glen Hansard and Czech singer and pianist Markéta Irglová.  Since their rise to prominence after starring in the 2007 film Once, they increasingly referred to themselves as "The Swell Season" in promotion of their performances until it has unambiguously become the formal name of their collaboration in 2008.

Song 98: The Final Countdown

Next up is an instantaneously recognisable song from the 1980s, which has iconic status, and a rather interesting orchestral cover featuring cellos as the main instrument. The song is The Final Countdown, with the original by Europe and the cover by Melo-M, a Latvian cello group.

ORIGINAL: Europe

Released in 1986, this was the first single from the Swedish group Europe's third album. The song topped the charts in an incredible 25 countries, and become their most recognisable songs and biggest hit. It has one of the greatest synths/keyboard rifts in the music industry, and nearly got ditched as guitarist John Norum didn't like it.

COVER: Melo-M and Symphonic Orchestra of Liepaja

Do you want to see some headbanging cello playing? Then Latvian cello band Melo-M are here for you! The three cellists are classically trained. They are known for covering well known English songs, and The Final Countdown is one of their famous tunes. Here, they are supported by the Symphonic Orchestra of Liepaja.
