The villagers get suspicious of goldeneys since he first wanted to lynch a ghost, and a werewolf ghost at that. Goldy also continues to act like a mayor, it seems like he hasn't learned anything from past experiences. The inhabitants of Fiddleton don't want a mayor, they want to rule themselves. They lynch him quickly, hoping that he's a werewolf despite him claiming his innocence. They should have listened though, because goldy was just a villager.
