1. Questions of Leadership

- Perrin deciding between joining forces with the Whitecloaks or avenging his family.

4. Lighter Than A Feather

- I think this is Lan deciding to lead the army that's gathered in Kandor, that dying alone would be the easy option.

14. Talk of Dragons

- Mat trying to get Aludra material for her 'dragons'.

16. The End of a Legend

- Death of Noal? Or maybe Cadsuane--I think she'll go out with a spectacular bang during the BT conflict, doing what made her a legend: taking down male channelers.

20. Men Dream Here

- Perrin and Tel'aran'rhiod?

23. A Good Soup

- Egwene finding out something important about Laras, such as Laras knowing where the Horn is.

32. A Reunion

- Probably Moiraine-related but could refer to a number of other reunions... Tam and Rand, Avi and Rand, Morgase and Galad.

Ugh, mushrooms. *shudders*

Moving swiftly along, I quite like sleepinghour's interpretation of "Lighter than a feather". It does make sense- it would be easy, in a way, for Lan to plough on alone, outwit all his followers, and throw everything he has at the Blight. Wouldn't really change very much, tho, would it? Far harder, for him, to do the duty he was born to and lead his people.

It would really really suck if this ^ turns out to be so much wishful thinking. Don't want him to die.

Have you read the excerpt for the iphone yet Pol? there's a bit about Lan in it you might find interesting.

14. Talk of Dragons: Agreed this is re: Aludra. Can we start drawing some conclusions based on chapter positioning now? I know I've read somewhere that no-one has confirmed that this the actual chapter order, but the positioning as is definitely makes sense to me based on what our predictions are.

In all likelihood ch. 7 is referring to Verin's letter to Mat which means he is still in Caemlyn at that point. None of the following chapters appear to be Mat-related except maybe ch. 12, Partings, and A Meeting. However, I feel ch. 14 is likely going to be a conversation between Mat and Rand. At this point Aludra has done all she can in terms of planning and costing the Dragons so all that is needed is someone pitching the case to Rand. I realise someone else could do it but it will probably be Mat. So I'm thinking at this point everyone has probably met up in Caemlyn. Rand has to see the babies born after all.

In any case the Moiraine plotline doesn't appear to be resolved quickly. Although I can easily see the rescue only being 2 chapters or so. With only 2 books left we still have a load of unfinished business, and let's face it, rescuing Moiraine is fairly peripheral to the main plot. Any knowledge she might have gained in ToW could easily have been imparted by another character if BS so desired.

We know it's not the actual chapter order for a few reasons:

1. Not all chapter titles were included. There are 59 titles altogether, and less than 50 clues according to Brandon.

2. The Seven-Striped Lass is almost certainly chapter 1.

3. Lighter Than A Feather is very likely chapter 50. Not confirmed, but good reason to think it so.

Ahh, good point. Maybe chapter 2 then. We've never gotten a later chapter as a preview. Prologue, chapter 1, or chapter 2. It might possibly be ch. 1 without the wind scene, but that seems unlikely.

I'm thinking its going to be a scene between tGS and ToM featuring Mat in Caemlyn talking with Elayne. This would explain all the instances of "Queen" and of course "Caemlyn" and also possibly "fox" and "foxhead [medallion]" since it was Elayne that was one of the ones that was so interested in it (right?). The mentions of "Tuon" could even be Mat telling (or considering the consequences of) telling Elayne about his relationship with the Seanchan.

This could also help move his story along some, so we can get to the ToG Rescue quicker in ToM.

Of the chapters that are included I don't see anything to rule out that they are in order. Even if The Seven Striped Lass is ch. 1 or 2, Questions of Leadership definitely fits either before or after it. The Pattern Groans definitely fits there also if we're assuming that refers to the balefire incident. An Unexpected Letter seems to me one of the more unambiguous titles and having it soon after (#7) is appropriate. I don't see why Lighter Than A Feather has to be chapter 50? I agree that with missing chapters there's a lot of guesswork involved here but I would say that The Pattern Groans and An Unexpected Letter are the clearest titles in terms of where we know they should appear and they seem to me pretty much in the right spots.

It seems too big of a spoiler to be given out before the book is even released though

And it doesn't have to mean literally what it says. It could have a symbolic meaning. It could even mean the total opposite.

I see it as Lan deciding to lead the army, and his acceptance of his role will bring him to feel somewhat relieved, almost lighter than a feather  .

13. The Strength of This Place

14. Talk of Dragons

those are very intriguing titles. Talk of dragons could refer to the ashaman or the aiel, so maybe BT or Aviendha in ruhiedan?

The strength of this place could be related the that place if the chapters are in order, otherwise it could be anything :/

I'm still sticking with my current hypotheses that this is a Mat chapter between tGS and ToM. As I said in my post above to corroborate this theory:

  1. Obviously, unless the text changes, this is a Mat chapter
  2. The mentions of Caemlyn make the timing right
  3. I think Mat will meet up with Elayne, thus the mentions of "Queen"
  4. The mentions of "Fox" and "foxhead [medallion]" suggest Mat and/or Elayne may be discussing mats medallion
  5. The Seven-Striped Lass could easily be an inn in caemlyn
  6. If it is an inn, it could explain all the occurrences of "inn"
  7. Mentions of Tuon could be Mat telling Elayne, or thinking about telling Elayne about his relationship with her.
  8. Putting a mid tGS/ToM Mat chapter would greatly help advance his story so we can move on to the big Rescue

Also, it would be awesome if we got part of the story that never appears in any books. It's been a while since we have had that (The sealing of the Bore was the last, correct?)

Kinda like Lan Mandragoran riding to his death? It's not really a spoiler, because it could refer to either Rand or Lan, and we don't know which. My guess is that Lan is a big fat red herring, but we can't be sure until we read it.

And it doesn't have to mean literally what it says.

Like I said, it's not confirmed.

I highly doubt it. Brandon was planning on doing something like that with some Pevara chapters that he didn't think he could fit into the books. There was an uproar about it (mostly from one or two people, but influential ones) so Brandon decided to try to fit it in the books, which I'm pretty sure is part of why TOM had to be longer than he originally planned.

:( Yeah I remember that now that you mention it.

Well that definitely hurts my theory...

But if not that, and not chapter one, what else could it be? I can't see them releasing another chapter out of sequence like that.

On Brandon's website the Great Hunt page it says clue 15 has been unlocked. Any idea on what it was yet?

And to add something, I think The Strength of This Place will refer to Shayol Ghul and how the bore and the Dark One's power is increasing via weaking of seals on his prison and the weaking of the pattern (The Pattern Groans). Obviously just a guess though :).

The End of a Legend is a very intriguing chapter title cuz on the surface you would assume that it's a characters death, but WoT are always tricky and usually involve some kinda of character having some sort of revelation.
