Why You Can't Make New Threads, and How To Request Them.

The Spoiler Board has been locked so that only Admins and Moderators can make new posts. I know this is a pain, but the reason is to stop spoilers in thread titles and repeated posts, both of which were a major problem last year on the non-spoiler board (the threads on Rand's sword nearly drove me insane). That fact is, simply, that our traffic gets so high around the release this is needed to grant the board any form of readability.

 

So to request new threads, simply post your request in this thread.

 

A few rules and pointers.

 

1. Please be clear on where you want the spoilers to be cut off at.

 

2. Please be considerate in phrasing your request even within this thread. During the Pre-release there will be people who might have read the prologue but not chapter one (should Tor release it). Therefore instead of going 'Can we discuss the part where Demandred turns out to be Elayne in chapter one', phrase it simple 'Could we have a thread on Demandred with spoilers up to chapter one'.

 

3. Have a look through what has already been requested. If the staff have said no to a thread we'll have a reason, abide that unless you have a very good (read: specific) argument as to why we should reconsider--and if that involves spoilers, PM the staff who responded. If the staff haven't responded to a thread request in at least two days feel free to prompt us again--we're human and we miss things.

 

Finally, during the Pre-release you may request a thread at any time, but when the book comes out we'll not create any new threads for at least a week. Instead, like last time, we will create threads for each section of the book. So it will be...

 

Discuss Prologue through Chapter 3.

Discuss Prologue through Chapter 5.

Discuss Prologue through Chapter 10.

etc.

 

Once we are convinced enough people have finished the book, we will re-open a thread requests. I will make very clear both when we are not accepting new requests, and when we begin to accept them once more.

 

Luckers: My apologies if this isn't the exact spot for this, but, considering that my PM still doesn't work and the fact that obviously we can't start threads that are TOM-Related, I figured this was my best option.

 

There is something that has had me deeply concerned since reading the prologue. Its not plot-related or spoiler-related or something whose answer is a ''RAFO'' or somethings silly like that - its a 'technical' issue that I am worried about.

 

I have seen at least two other posters bring it up and I have seen it in at least two other threads. I've brought it up myself but so far noone seems to have any answers.

 

In the prologue, Graendal (a CHOSEN) refers to Shai'tan as the DARK ONE.

Not ''The Great Lord'' but the DARK ONE.

 

I am hoping against hope that it was simply an honest error on Brandon's part that went uncaught and will be corrected in the paperback version.

 

This is a Big Deal. Its not the same as Saidin and Saidar accidentaly being referred to backwards a couple of times in early books.

 

This is not a typo.

 

Its a Big Deal and as someone whose been on this ride since Day One, I would GREATLY appreciate someone giving Team Jordan a shout out about Graendal, a member of the Forsaken, referring *in their own head* to Shai'tan as the ''Dark One.''

 

Thats a BIG boo boo - and if it simply a matter of human error I will be beyond thrilled.

Not sure where else to post this but this is a site layout suggestion.

 

Lines between the threads on the topic page would be good. It's hard to read who the new replies are from on the right when scanning and deciding what to read first etc.

 

I know this seems picky but as that kind of thing is my line of work it really bugs me cause I know it would take 5 mins max to insert a line in the design. When you get around to it that is.

I'd suggest Tweeting Brandon about this if it really bothers you that much. You can always discuss it in the Super Spoiler PoV thread as well.

Yoniyo - this should bother *ANY* WOT Fan. It is not a small deal. It would be just like Faile all of a sudden referring to her husband as Mat or Rand rather than Perrin. I'm not familiar with tweetering. I barely have email mastered.

Can we do a timeline reconciliation thread in one place? All narratives in Prologue, Chapter 1, 8 and TGS (where they ended).

Be more useful than the random attempts that are being made in separate PoVs.

I would like a new thread started called "The Wolf King's Hammer", it would only have spoilers up to chapter 2. It is based on the what Perrin is doing and how it is related to his dream and leadership events. It will tie together what his problems are.
