Chapter 11

- Interesting to note that when Rand wordlessly shouted at Bela to run, she ran. Even though she could not see him... Rand was also able to talk to a trolloc, something else which was supposedly surprising. No prediction on this, just a mental note.

- Bela is the least tired of all the horses? I wonder if Tam has something to do with that...

- Rand has a reflex to draw the sword ... interesting.

- A Biteme?  ... mosquito?

- Summon fog!

- Wow, Lan and Moiraine are loaded. Apparently the silver coins given to the children were peanuts.

- So they paid off the ferryman, and now are on their way across the river

Things are beginning to move...

Good mind to notice that, wont say anything about it however, altho it's somewhat significant.

Rand was also able to talk to a trolloc, something else which was supposedly surprising. No prediction on this, just a mental note.

Not really significant, it's only surprising because it's rare Trollocs learn how to speak in human speech

Rand has a reflex to draw the sword ... interesting.

That's more to do with Tam then the Bela part

A Biteme?  ... mosquito?

Something of the sort

Summon fog!

You will know the deal with this, it's not that big a deal really

Wow, Lan and Moiraine are loaded. Apparently the silver coins given to the children were peanuts.

Well, specifically she was related to a king, like a cousin or niece or something

So they paid off the ferryman, and now are on their way across the river

Well they gots to escape the Trollocs and Myrddraal

Oh by the way, what did you think of the story of Manetheren.... a favorite of mine that story.....

It was pleasant... It was told by an Aes Sedai, so I'm wondering if there is some twist that she left out, but otherwise it was a very inspiring story.

I knew that the fog was going to be used as a misdirection, and you're right Arkane101, it wasn't a big deal. The author tried to make a big deal out of it with the line "it would take ten [others] to pull this off, and I did it on horseback." In a book you can have as much power as the author writes into you, so I'm not impressed. Still a clever gambit.

Chapter 12

- All the kids trying to look threatening with their weapons :P and Thom cannot retrieve his dagger without flourish.

- The crossing was uneventful.

- Hilarious, how a whirlpool just 'happened' to show up.

- Even funnier: Rand's disbelief. He's a bit thick it seems.

- After Thom realizes that Moiraine is an Aes Sedai Mat nearly has a heart attack! :P

- The prepared campsite is a bit of a surprise, though not unwelcome. It shows that Lan and Moiraine think ahead.

- The first decent explanation of Saidin and Saidar, the One Power, and the True Source.

- So women can use magic freely, but if men use magic, they have to be evil, or at least overcome it. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

- At least it is nice to know that Egwene is a natural.

- Egwene: "Does that have the Power?" I facepalmed just reading that.

- Or apparently they can't overcome it. I'm slightly upset by this magical imbalance. This series has a lot of awesome to do to make up for itself.

Overall I like the series so far. Not ready to call it my favoritest series evar, the author has a lot more work to do for that, but it is a good read.

its not that they have to be evil, it's just that there is an evil touch of it the "taint" of saidin, it's both a huge issue and not as big an issue as you may think, but i won't give away too much hehe.

Yeah, I kinda figured that, but I'll be a lot happier once I once I see some good-aligned male drawing from the True Source.  I'm eyeing you Thom Merrilian.

Magical poison, anyone?

Now you know the rules young man, did you bring enough for everybody?

I would say, base it on number of comments, not number of chapters.  What's wrong with multiple threads though?

Also, it might be good to label each topic (tEotW  My first read (part 01)) (part 02) etc...

Man, your analysis makes me feel like I was super dense on my first read.  I didn't catch ANY of the hints that you are picking up on.  Though, by your observations, it does seem like RJ was subtle enough to make even someone as analytical as you follow red herrings, which I like.

Lol''d at "I don't like stories with dreams" and "inequality in the Power" comments.

Oh, just you wait.

Great thread Dralid, I know I wish I could do this all over again...sadly I stopped counting how many times I re-read the series when I hit 10...and then I stopped re-reading when I knew what would happen in each chapter before I read it  ;D  I know a lot of us would gladly get memory wipes of the WOT just so we could reread it all over again

Watch him figure out who killed you know who you know when.  That would make my day

Yeah, but what if you got a mind wipe and never got back around to reading WoT? After all, you've forgotten what a great series it is.

I like this thread its a mini blog of thoughts while reading its almost like i'm vicariously reading the books for the first time again, when you make mental notes of nuggets of information and formulating theories. awesome sauce!

I know the author says he doesn't mind spoilers, but a large part of the appeal to this, at least for me, are his thoughts coming upon story elements with a completely fresh prespective. So I would like to ask that people please be careful when replying, because if you begin explaining things before they get explained in the books, all you've done is deprive us of a geniune reaction to events in the books as they come up in his reading.

Of course you're all right.

I'd like to clarify why I asked for spoilers in the first place: Read and find out. It is such a conversation stopper to read those words. It makes it feels like this site is some sort of secret club and I've volunteered for some nasty initiation procedure. I make it a point to not be in those types of clubs.

I know you all don't mean to hurt me (except maybe AlannaLynn and Amadine, tracking me like scum), but  with eleven and two thirds of a book left to go, read and find out just doesn't cut it. I do plan on reading, and I will find out.

That said, if something I said stirs a memory from your first read, or you want to praise/lampoon me for some comment I had about the book, or if you have the tiniest teaser to keep me drooling for more, feel free to post it without worrying too much about which page the event occurs on and if I'm two pages before or after it. If you accidentally post ahead of me, I will forgive you and do my best not to read it.

My only fear is that if I feel excluded my interest in this project will wane and nobody, myself included wants that.

I plan on reading the next few chapters tonight, after I get some housework done. :)
