Where I've been...

Many of you know me. Many of you do not. However, I've been around DM for 7 years now (just missed my anniversary a couple months ago) and I've seen a lot of changes. I've never left, never had an LoA, but I know I've been mostly AWOL lately.

For those who know me, you know I've been a master's student in engineering, well, almost the entire time I've been a member here. The time has come, I've finally, f'ing finished the thing. I was done with my classes 4 years ago, but I was dragging my feet on my research and thesis. Then I got a job and the foot dragging became being too busy with the new job, etc.

Well, I think what it all came down to was fear. Fear to start, because I was afraid of failing and not being able to do it. And the good news is, I did. I wrote the last page of my thesis today. I took it to my advisor, we did some edits, but she said it is absolutely good enough to go to my committee already. My defense date is April 13th. After defending my thesis (which is a scary thing in and of itself) I just have to make some edits, print several copies on fancy paper, and I'm done. I'll walking across the stage on May 13th in my Master's hood! (So Harry Potter!)

So, hopefully, what this all boils down to is that I will have more time to hang out here and get to know you all. There was once a time I knew every single person in the WT and probably 90% of DM at large. Those days are over, but I'd settle for getting to know a lot of you guys.

Congratulations on finishing your thesis! I've just started my dissertation, so I kind of know how you feel (I'm just more burned out than fearful).

Whoo! Hooray for finishing your thesis. Is this your first Masters or your second? I can never remember. If its your first, it should definitely equal a pay bump for you next year.

*hugglepounces Kar* I'm soo happy for you, fearless leader! I know that your defense will go smoothly, and before you know it you'll have your hood. Do you at least get to have pretty colors on yours? I think education is light blue, right? I think that the color for my new chosen field of study is salmon pink. :roll: Oh, well. . . I'm sure I wouldn't have to wear it but once. :)

Anyhow. . . congratulations on your achievement.

Yeah, but if you READ my post, Lyricle! (*g*) you would see it was in engineering. So actually, I get an ORANGE hood. With GREEN for my school colors. Can you say ugly???
