If you could see yourself, would you slip the blade so easily?

The thought echoed through her mind as she crept through the doorway, and into the room where the man slept. The blade was held stiffly at her side.

Smokey haze still filled the room from the pipe that the man had been sucking into before he fell back, lost to this world with one foot firmly in the other.

A single candle softly guttered as the slight breeze of her passing crossed over the flame.

She decided that the answer was yes, she would. And so she did.

Her blade before her, she crossed the distance in lithe movememt, reached up to wrap her hand around the man's forehead and pulled back, trapping him into the chair. The other arm whipped around, crossed the blade over his neck, and pulled deep.

Hot spray flew across his chest and lap. She didn't know whether he had woken at the last second. She didn't care.

As soon as he stopped thrashing, she let up on her grip and let the body settle.

Almost immediately the spirits came, but she had known that they would.

The man's soul would be welcomed, judged, then exhalted or condemned. And they would all know her for what she had done.

They would see her standing there, blood dripping from her blade.

She let them.

With a flick of her hair, she turned, planted the blade into the wooden frame of the door, and pulled the black doeskin shirt over her head.

Her intention had never been to hide.

She slipped out of her trousers and pulled the blade free.

The water was bloodwarm as she dove in, the nets not far below.

As soon as she reached them, she began to slice through, the blood from the knife more than enough to attract  the creatures she knew to be close. The holes in the nets would let them in.

As she felt water swell up beneath her, she let go and kicked back toward the surface. Part of her knew she would be lucky to reach it alive. A smaller part thought it might be easier if she didn't.

Despite that smaller part, she broke the surface and pulled herself out of the water, and onto the planks she had left only moments ago.

It was done.

Raisa pulled her hair back, wringing water from it. Then she jumped up, padded lightly to where she had left her clothes, and let the rest happen as it would.

She did not look back as she heard something heavy pulling itself out of the water where she had just left.  It would find the still warm carcass with little effort, as she had intended.

Raisa ran past one of the warning bells situated at the start of the bridge, but she did not pull it, even though it meant her death not to do so.

At this point, that mattered little as her death was assured by the murder she had just committed.

But none of that mattered. it didn't matter if they killed her now, and it didn't matter if they put her chains and drug her all of the way back to the Arch.

She had done what she could, the rest would just have to happen as it would...

Someone always smokes a pipe with you, don't they, Wes?

<3 your story teller skills. Publish a novel so I can devour it!

Yeah, but this one is more of a hookah pipe, and not a Sherlock Holmes pipe.

But yes, I evidently can't write a story without one. It does make my children's books awkward...

And, I'm working on it! I wrote the serial novel online last year ( a 450 pager ) and am waiting for the baby boy to get old enough so that I can finish another one.

Well, work just got worse.  Actually, it's been getting worse since June began.

I'm now working almost every day (weekends too).  Odd hours too.  Sometimes 12 hours, sometimes 8.  Got a 14 a couple days ago.

So, basically, I don't know WHEN I can get on anymore.  But I will try to get on at least once a day when the game begins.  I WILL TRY!!

Welcome Hybrid! Nice to have you back!

I think you especially will enjoy the part of the game where one side goes into an actual battle with the other, and many will die. The choices you make leading up to the battle scene will determine whether you live or not. You'll love it.

Bah.  We think too similar, Wes!

Is it weird that I'm hoping this game will keep me from going stir-crazy even as it drives me insane?

Which is to say, I am not going to miss it, I'm as ready as I can ever be. :D
