KoD Aviendha and Ter'angreal

There was some hinting that Avi had some talent related to ter'angreal and then we got confirmation while she was talking with Elayne about them.

So, we now know that Avi can tell what a ter'angreal does by holding it, which will come in handy so people won't have to experiment and possibly hurt themselves.

I'm sure this will be of use in the future. She'll probably discover some major ter'angreal that will help in TG.

Any ideas on what might come of her knew Talent?

One possibility could be something that will help with all the food spoiling and/or none of the plantlife growing.

Maybe she will be the one who finds the ter'angreal in the Tower that could be used to help Rand (the one Nynaeve and Elayne found via Need in Lord of Chaos).

But besides that through Rand, Elayne, Egwene and the Wise Ones she has access to every known ter'angreal storage place--Cairhein, Tear, Rhuidean, the Tower and Andor. If she bothers to make some effort she could pull some interesting toys out to play with.

My personal theory is that Setalle Anan will ultimately be confirmed to be Martine Janata, who was burned-out from studying ter'angreal.  She will then have her her ability Healed and will work with Aviendha to study ter'angreal.

Either way, I'm sure she may find some super important ter'angreal or discern some new property of an existing ter'angreal.  However, I think it will really show it's utility while working with Egwene to better duplicate ter'angreal or better yet, make entirely new ter'angreal... maybe they'll link and find a way to combine the talents to achieve this.  The ability to produce new ter'angreal would be a huge boon to the forces of the Light.  Too bad Egwene took the oaths though... no new shocklances.:-[

do you think that the blue stone root-like ter was for making/growing the ways or maybe gateways for traveling? here is the discription

Blue Stone Root-like Carving

A ter'angreal in the form of blue stone root-like carving. It is for growing something. Not plants. Something like holes but not exactly. Activating it requires only singing the right song

well?

also she found what equates to telephones so that might be a help.

Shocklances could still be on the cards. From what ive seen of the oaths and how they worm their way around them, they could easily make them. The shock people not harm them.

Possible use of shocklance.

Father- Son I got this shocklance today.

Son- Yes father, so whats up.

Father turns on shocklance aims at the boy.

Father- I'm not your father.

Son?- What? Who is?

Father?- He who comes with dawn.

Not Son- Who's Dawn?

Not Father- The milkmans wife.

Milkman son- Hey did you hear about Aginor's money making scheme? Its a pyramid scheme you in?

Someone Else's Father- Sure why not. Now where your mother Ive a shock for her also.

See easy peasy way around it.

Aviendha's skill will prob only come into use when she or if she goes to rhuidhean to complete her training.

Sounds like the Ways to me. Considering that it is activated by the right song (which my guess is the one the Tinkers are looking for) Elayne can't test it to see what it does, that wouldn't work. So Avi may hold it and be able to tell what it is, then possibly Lioal or another Ogier can sing to make it work. I just wonder if it could heal the Ways or only create Waygates? Even if it only makes Waygates, maybe they could destroy the original ones and start over with the Ter'angreal.

I don't know, dead seems pretty harmed to me, and the people the BA killed with the pistol version in Caemlyn in KoD seemed more than just shocked.

Someone needs to send her to Seandar.  I want to know what the crystal throne is meant for already.

While we're on the topic of Avi and her ability to discern the uses of *angreal, I just have to put in my two cents and say that the COOLEST item she found in that stash of stuff that Elayne took was probably what amounted to a portable library, the Fiction/Nonfiction item. Imagine what a Brown could find or uncover with that little nugget.

I don't know if i'm happy or sad that no browns were around for that discovery. lol

Is it known to be a ter'angreal, or just a guess?

I think it could be and they have just lost how to use it over the ages.

Maybe it's like a questioning chair. Or used by someone with the OP it might make people follow them more, almost Ta'veren like. Making them a more powerful ruler.

I totally agree. It would be awesome to see all the things hidden in there. They should give it to Rand so he could see if there's anything in it to help with TG. Or, since Elayne is very protective of them and probably wouldn't want to give it to a man (even if it is Rand), but I could see her willing to give it to Min especially if she new Min was reading all those old texts trying to figure stuff out.

Yeah, especially when they find an entry under "Jordan, R."  ;D

In The Path of Daggers,Unweaving, Elayne discovers a ter'angreal that looks like: 'A stout, bearded man with a jolly smile, holding a book.' Was this a sneaky cameo appearance by yourself?

Robert Jordan Answers: Well, I may not be Alfred Hitchcock, but I do like to show up now and then.

He pulled a Clive Cussler

IMO the two best *angrels that she has so far figured out is the the books and the music box- heck maybe the "missing" song is in it (lol we alredy *know* that Rand has knowledge of the song that the tinkers are looking for) ok make it three that dagger that she gave Eylane is probly what helps Rand in TG.

I believe that is a reference to one of Rand's ancestors as viewed in the columns at Rhuidean.  One of his experiences was as an Aiel singing in the fields with Ogier and other Aiel to grow the crops.  So it is possible that he knows the Song.

So... I seem to remember someone having a Dream or other vision about one of the guys (I seem to remember it being Perrin) standing in a field with things growing all around him.  This has caused me to think that Perrin will somehow bring the Song to the Tinkers.  But now I can't seem to find any reference of that.  Did I just dream this up myself, or did it really happen somewhere in the books?

That's not what this thread is for though... so here's the On-Topic part of my post.  I think the Oath Rod would be a good one for her to take a look at it.  Presumably it is one of the "Nine Rods of Dominion" that is now being used as a binder.  I recall one of the Forsaken being surprised that the so-called Aes Sedai were using it as an Oath Rod.  Maybe it has some other use that will prove useful in the future.

Ewgene dreamed it I think and it has been discussed in a thread about Egwene and the tinkers. Also I do hope Perrin does discover it and further also isn't Perrin really upset when Nym the green man dies and an even further also I seem to recall some foreshadowing in the eye of the world with Perrin and trees when him and egwene get lost after the river and met the tinkers and eylas.

So I am certain that Egwene and Perrin will discover the song reAD their bits in the first book its all there. Perrin liking and feeling contented under the trees bamn, meeting the tinkers bamn, Egwene dreams it bamn, she uses need in the last book and finds tinkers bamn and perrin hasnt much left to do really except maybe fight slayer bamn!

"nine rods of dominion" sounds familiar, where is referenced?

I would love to find out what they were used for.

The Nine Rods of Dominion are spoken of by Ishamael in the EotW prologue--he says Lews Therin was once able to summon them. They are not binders (like the Oath Rod), as was suggested above. Instead the Nine Rods of Dominion were regional offices--like governers over a district.

Known. The Guide tells us it inspires awe in all those who approach it. It has been speculated that I have a similar ter'angreal, but I assure you the awe I inspire is all natural.

I seem to remember (it's been a while since the last reread) it's the non-channeling Aiel only that participated in that with the Ogier while the Nym does its/his thing.  All the channeling Aiel where apprentices to the AS.

So, if that was the Song then maybe Rand or another Aiel who has been through the glass columns, Avi perhaps (though I thought deep males voices were needed), will teach it to Perrin, the Tinkers, and whoever else will be involved. Rand (with his AoL knowledge)will help the other channelers to create some Nyms.

Do we know that or is it still speculation?  Even the BWB (which I know isn't cannon) speculates that the OR may be one of the 9 rods.

Considering the rod that Galina had to swear on had a number above 100, I doubt its the binders.
