I know that this probably isn't thread worthy....

But when does the next book come out?  I'm new to the Jordan series.. I just picked up the books a few months back.  Well, I'm caught up and cannot wait for more.  How long before the new book comes out?

And yes, I looked for the answer elsewhere, but apparently I didn't find it.

The Gathering Storm, book 12, came out October 27th. The Towers of Midnight comes out next November (2010) and the final book (14), A Memory of Light, comes out the November after (2011).

Don't worry. There have been more frivolous threads, to be honest.

From where do these dates come from?

Where?

Encyclopaedia tells (http://encyclopaedia-wot.org/books/tom/index.html, http://encyclopaedia-wot.org/books/amol/index.html), Wikipedia tells (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wheel_of_Time); other sites might tell.

Brandon has said it repeatedly.

While they haven't exactly set it in stone and started up the presses....Brandon has made it very clear that he intends these books to come out in late Oct. or early Nov. of '09, '10, and '11.

Actually, what we've gathered from Brandon Sanderson is the "Towers of Midnight" will come out sometime between Fall of 2010 and and spring of 2011 (March at the latest).  Considering that BS intended to have ToM 90% completed by the end of the TGS tour and is currently only at 75% I'm leaning toward the latter.  As for "A Memory of Light" he has said that he hopes it will be published by Fall of 2011 but that he will take as much time as necessary to do it right.

From Brandon's latest blog.

Oh, and a quick note. TOWERS OF MIDNIGHT is going very well. I had a good week of writing on it, and I'm more and more certain it will be in on time. If that's the case, we'll see it October next year.

Anyone have any good series to tackle between now and then?  I've been reading a little David Drake, but I dropped it for Jordan.

Have you read George R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire? Just started the series (I'm on the second book). It's pretty good. Similar to the Wheel of Time yet very different. Both authors were friends and on the back cover of the first book, it had a quote by RJ: "Grabs hold and wont let go. It's brilliant. Made me laugh for some reason.

Song of Ice and Fire is not finished either.  I also read the main books.  I can think of of some similarities; yet I would post them in one of my similarity threads, not here.

You might need more than one series while waiting for the current unfinished books; if you are a fast reader.

Following are other series I read that I consider good:

-Lord of the Rings; the main plot would be better understood if Hobbit was read first, Silmarillion would help give a better understanding of the world.

-Chronicles of Narnia

-Cyberquest

-Left Behind

About when the remaining Wheel of Time books would be released, I imagine we would get exact dates around the times the drafts are to be due.

I'm actually reading Narnia to my 4 year old right now.  As for LoTR, I've plowed through that a few times.

I'm looking for something in Fantasy.  Is Cyberquest in that genre?  As for LeftBehind, ..there's a chance I could check that out.

I didn't know that Song of Ice and Fire was unfinished.  How many books are in the series?  If it's a long series, I might go ahead and check that out while I'm finishing up some of David Drake's work.

Not sure which genre which genre Cyberquest would fall under.  The primary genre seems to be Sci-Fi; there seems to me some degree of Fantasy blended in.  Some may consider Sci-Fi and Fantasy similar to each other.

How many books are in the series?

The main series would be 7 books when it is finished; currently 4 of them are published.  The next one will be Dance with Dragons; that one and the 4th was originally intended to be one book.

There is a supplementary trilogy (Tales of Dunk and Egg); two of it are currently published.  And there are 3 other supplementary books.

This page tells about the series::  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Song_of_Ice_and_Fire

(part of same page) supplemental books:  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Song_of_Ice_and_Fire#Supplementary_works
