cosmicpanda Posted August 19, 2009 Posted August 19, 2009 So, discuss. Note that voting for more games of any sort requires people to step up and mod them. I can mod one or two, I suppose, if there's demand. This board's already set up to allow multiple games at once, but seemingly nobody wants to run a normal game of mafia, or any other game. So I thought I would investigate.
Jeran Posted August 19, 2009 Posted August 19, 2009 I voted for the option that there should be normal mafia as well as themed. I wouldn't mind running a normal mafia game. I wonder if there are enough people playing here to do two games at once? I guess you don't know until you try though. Also, I don't mind other games being run, but I don't know any I'd play off the top of my head.
Guest dragonsworn1991 Posted August 19, 2009 Posted August 19, 2009 I am working on a themed game, it is on the same format as Thorum's. I think the set up to that is great. If anyone thinks I should I will further it and post it here after the BT mafia, and HP mafia end.
Liathiana Posted August 19, 2009 Posted August 19, 2009 Gypsy, you can sign up to that here: There are several people who have signed up already to mod games after Thorum. I really like Themed Mafia's. I've never played a normal mafia game.
Toy and Minion Posted August 19, 2009 Posted August 19, 2009 We need Normal, and Newbie games. Along with games not related to Mafia.
mmeeshal Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 My biggest input is that we need, like Sage said, Newbie Mafia games going. I haven't seen one of those in quite some time. And I know I could've used the practice and experience. :) Other than that, I have no thoughts on the matter just now.
Guest dragonsworn1991 Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 I find the best practice in a mafia game is modding one. You get to see actions of experienced players and see how mafia members post and play off of each other.
mmeeshal Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 That does make sense. I don't know how I'd handle modding a mafia game, but I could try it sometime (no time in the near future >.<). Maybe a newbie mafia game! :D I know it would be really interesting to see how people play the game, when you know who has what role, who's lying, etc. I know, reading along with other people's mafia games, I wish I could be the mod to see what people are really doing. :D Anyway. You make a good point. :)
Guest dragonsworn1991 Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 If you want I can write you up a semi-basic mafia game and let you mod it
Toy and Minion Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 Meesh, you've played enough games to be a Mod. But I think it should be stated that one must know the basics of a mafia game before modding one. In other words, I think about the same amount of games needed to play to not be considered a Newb (3-4?) would be a good requirement to being a Mod.
mmeeshal Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 I guess having that many not-quite-under-my-belt-yet counts.... :D
Daetirion Posted August 21, 2009 Posted August 21, 2009 Wondered why the games had dried up a bit Always happy to volunteer my services to mod, especially newbie/basic games... just dont expect horrendously complicated storylines!
Naeann Posted August 21, 2009 Posted August 21, 2009 That requires you to show up hun. :-* Meesh... newbie games are the HARDEST to mod.... you have to be ready for any number of questions new players would have. I'm modding an experienced one and people are coming at me with questions i never dreamed of how to answer. Thank god Barm is helping me.
Daetirion Posted August 21, 2009 Posted August 21, 2009 I'll second my bonded's comments about newbie games I ended up doing a load of 'basic' games which had some experienced players, but 'cause they were in other orgs i had several newbies. Nice people and everything, but it takes quite a bit to get the concept etc. and knowing whats in the rules. In some ways Themed mafia is easier as no one presumes anything, and you get a lot of scope in your rules.... you just need a good idea!
cosmicpanda Posted August 22, 2009 Author Posted August 22, 2009 I just started signups for a newbie game. I'm happy to mod it, but if someone else really wants to, I could hand over the reigns. :)
LedZepMan Posted September 13, 2009 Posted September 13, 2009 I am willing to participate in any game lol. Just the two that I have started to play have got me hooked. Even though the DPR game is way complex
Club Leader LilyElizabeth Posted September 13, 2009 Club Leader Posted September 13, 2009 I would like to see more games in here. My son just joined DM, because, watching me, he got hooked on mafia games. We live in the same house. We can't be in the same game. We couldn't keep from talking about it. It would be impossible. Personally, I don't like most themed games. Dragon's HP game was great, but usually, I don't know the theme, and feel that would be a handicap for me.
Toy and Minion Posted September 13, 2009 Posted September 13, 2009 FYI, Lily, Themes vary far and wide.
LedZepMan Posted September 13, 2009 Posted September 13, 2009 I guess there will be one based on Orsen Wells novel 1984, that one will be awesome
Toy and Minion Posted September 13, 2009 Posted September 13, 2009 If there hasn't been one, there will be.
LedZepMan Posted September 13, 2009 Posted September 13, 2009 I can't wait to play more games. The newbie mafia showed me the light, and the DPR Game hooked me lol
mmeeshal Posted September 13, 2009 Posted September 13, 2009 Lily, I understand your reasoning for wanting more games running. My brother is now hooked on Mafia, just from me talking about it, and there is no way we would be able to keep our mouths shut if we were in the same game together. He's not active on DM YET, but he will be soon. And my opinion on the themed games: some of them are hard to play if you don't get the theme (watch the show, read the book, whatever). But I've noticed that many mods create games where the theme is just an enhancement, an entertainer, or something that doesn't directly affect how the game is played. You don't always have to understand the theme to understand how the game is working, and not all themes directly affect the game. Does any of that ramble make sense? As to the 1984 game--that would be awesome.
