As soon as I saw that Fox was not preempting programming for the speech, I was for the first time pleased with Fox's political leanings.  Whether it actually has anything to do with it or not, I'm glad I don't have to miss SYTYCD.

Time for SYTYCD! ;D Guys pick the girls this week. I'll update as I watch.

 

Ellen Degeneres, interesting.

 

Whole group dance: Kind of bored me. Maybe the costumes were too distracting? Or I just didn't like the song. In any case, I focused more on SG's chat.

 

Evan and Janette: Weird dance. I didn't like it much. But yay for Evan compliments from the judges!

 

Kayla's solo, cool cool.

 

Brandon and Jeanine: I CAN'T BELIEVE HE'S MAKING FUN OF THE SONG :| I love that song! They danced beautiful *stabs Nigel*

 

Ade and Melissa: Yay! Together again! Good job ;D

 

Janette: Oooh Celine Dion. I really like that she didn't dance to latin music.

 

Jason and Kayla: Loved it ;D

 

E&J2: Loooooooove. Lovelovelove.

I'm late arriving.  Drama outside the apt complex.  Ooooooh...

 

So the first thing I saw was Janette and Evan crashing to the floor from their Sonya number.  Dang!  I wanted to see that one!

 

Kayla's solo:  I love Kayla and she's vying for top girl for me.  But her solo just felt like it had no meat.  I know she is amazing and can do so much more!

Brandon & Janeane:  I'm with Nigel.  It wasn't that impressive.

 

Melissa & Ade:  I didn't like the SloMo version.  I found it lacking.  And then Mary made sense out of the whole thing.  I totally agree with her.  They both could be going home if their next one doesn't hit it out of the park.

 

I didn't really get to watch Jason's solo, so I can't comment on it.

 

I LOVE that Janette incorporated new things she's learned in her solo!!!!!  She's my top girl, if not my total favorite all around.

 

Kayla & Jason:  I think this was the first time I can say I loved Jason in something.  I totally enjoyed that number.  I agree with Nigel, this was the routine that pulled the best out of the both of them.

 

Ade's solo:  More of the same from him.  Ade is losing his lustre, I'm afraid.

 

Janette & Evan's Rhumba:  Whooo!  Janette is hot hot hot!!!  No doubt about it.  Evan isn't very believable as the sexy leading man.  If Ade pulls the next dance out of the hat, Evan could be going home.

 

I didn't like Melissa's solo.  She barely did anything en point except just get up there.  It was all leaps and poses.  GAH!  Dance Girl Dance!!!!

 

Brandon & Jeneane:  Brandon was amazing as usual.  I just don't like Jeneane.  I'm sorry.  I don't think she was fantastic.  I thought Brandon left her in the dust.  He was the reason that dance was amazing, not her.

 

Evan's solo is also more of the same and nothing spectacular.  Adorable and charming, yes, but does American really love Evan enough to vote for him?

Jeneanne's solo: Well, her solo had a bit of substance to it.  this makes me a sad kitten because that means my Melissa will likely be going home.

 

Melissa & Ade:  So this is the "message"/"tribute" dance of the season.  Wow, Nigel cried.  Sometimes these tribute dances get me and sometimes they don't.  This one didn't.  Probably because I don't have any life experience with this particular issue.  It was a beautiful piece, though.  And people will talk about it because they will be moved by it.  I think they danced it beautifully and it could be the dance to pull them out of danger.  Who's that guy they keep cutting to though?  The one who's not Tyce.

 

Loved Brandon's solo.  It was a little different from what I expect from Brandon

 

Kayla & Jason's Hip Hop:  Zombies!!!!!!!  Eh, they were a little flat for me.

that is Melissa's hubby.  I loved Melissa & Ade's contemporary piece. So touching and beautiful and powerful. OMG, I cried during it.

 

None of the solos did anything for me. Janette did incorporate new stuff as did Jeanine. I liked that.

 

really don't have comments for the rest of them. Liked the pop jazz with Brandon and Jeanine. Loved the Rhumba.

*gasp*  ARE YOU EFFING KIDDING ME?!?!?!?!?!  Janette was my pick to win.  America got it So wrong.  I'm very disappointed.

*sigh*  ok, I can handle Jason going home.  He did wonderfully last week, but it's not a surprise.  He's not really a Star for me.

I turned my computer back on to say that sending her home is BS!  For a moment I thought they were sending Brendan home too and I was about to give up totally on the show.  How can they send the best dancer of the season home!!!  How can they put Kalya and Janette in the bottom two anyway?  Melissa did her cancer dance... it was great...  she needs to go home.  She can dance on point.... good for her. 

 

Jason going home is fine. 

 

Katie Holmes sucked.  I think I could have moved around that stage like her and lip synced just as good.

yeah, i was really disappointed in the katie holmes performance too.  It was made out to be so amazing and it just was not.

the only highlights in Katie's dance was the fact that Mark and Joshua were in it.

 

I was disappointed in this week's vote too. Jason - yeah, I could see him going home. But Miami has grown on me.

Seriously, I feel like the exact same number of people are on the show now as when this topic was first posted.  Are there any knockouts yet?

So I missed the first half.  I didn't come in until Janeane & Ade's Hip Hop routine.

 

*sigh*  I think Melissa is done this week.  That makes me a sad kitten.  I'm unsure who of the guys will be going home.  Alls I know is that my pick to win is Brandon.  Even if he did recycle his solo from his audition.

While I agree that Janette went before her time, she wasn't the strongest dancer.  I vote based on technical brilliance in each style and consistency in excellence from week to week.  I don't vote based on "personality", and I take into account how the dancer has performed the entire season, not just that night.  While Janette has had some brilliant moments, she's been outdanced by Brandon in many of their routines together.  She also doesn't have the technical genius that Kayla has from week to week.  Based on who the bottom two ended up being, even though it was a very wrong bottom two, I'm glad Janette went instead of Kayla.  I think Janette was many people's favorite because she's got the "personality" and stage presence, but in terms of dance skill, she's not as strong, versatile, or graceful as Kayla.  Seeing Kayla paired with Brandon this week cemented that for me.

 

I think one problem is that people vote not only for the choreography in the couple dances, but also for the choreography in the solos rather than the actual technique in the solos.  For instance, so many of the contemporary dancers wow the audience with fouettes or multiple pirouettes in flat feet, so I'm surprised Melissa hasn't whipped out those moves on pointe.  She's been in professional ballet companies before, so I'm sure she should be able to do them.  She has done very little pointe work in her solos despite wearing pointe shoes, so I don't think the audience understands just how hard pointe work is and how good she is because she hasn't shown them.

 

I'm hoping that Brandon and Kayla are the final two.  Brandon's my pick to win, but I'd also be very happy if Kayla won.

So the girls' elimination went as I thought it should even though I loved Melissa.  Dwyn, you are absolutely right in what you said about her solos.  I've never thought she was putting her all into her solos.  I always thought she was sort of phoning it in.  She had so much more to offer and never really shared that with people.  The only time we ever really got to see it was in the Romeo & Juliet number.  And she was so excited over the chance to show her classical abilities and be Juliet, I'm still confused as to why she never did a classical solo.

 

As for the boys' elimination, I have to say that outside of Brandon, I didn't really care or have a feeling of who was going home.  But apparently I took it for granted that Ade would win out over Evan because I was a little surprised by his being voted off.  In all, as long as Brandon wins, I don't care.

I was surprised to be happy, I love Evan even if he isn't the best dancer so I"m happy he's in the finale. I'm rooting for Brandon or Kayla.

Yup.  I have to agree with that.  I've not been a big fan of Jeanine's, but she really pulled it out tonight.  I think she "got" the concept of Mia Michaels' contemporary better than Kayla.

 

I still want Brandon to win.

I had many funny comments watching the show that I couldn't remember (except thinking Kayla and Brandon looked like Disco S&M) BUT all I knew tonight was that they were all good dancers, I really liked Evan but didn't think he should win because the others all danced better. After watching? Jeanine got my vote. I loved her solo! I loved every dance she was in. It was a very good night for her! ;D

 

I did like when the audience started chanting Evan! *giggle* Oh and did you catch Nigel when he said *whatever their last name is* is going to be on next season? I'm wondering if that's a spoiler for his brother being in the top 20...I would be so happy! Also, do y'think that redhead who was roomies with the chick from last season but didn't make it again this time will try out again?

Still rooting for Brandon.  But if one of the girls wins I'll have to go with Dale on this one and go for Kayla (that's her name right...the blonde). 

 

Also...why the hell did they have Joshua (the winner from last year) on last week and not even having him talk about his last year with the title...etc.  That was just a little messed up in my ever so humble opinion.

Brandon should win this.  Not only is he the best dancer... but little 14 year old girls do all the calling for this show which is why men with nice chests usually win.

I almost needed a cigarette after that pasa doble last night - OMG it was good. Evan's wrists were too limp all night long - especially in the pop jazz with Brandon.
