Cadsuane Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 Poll just to get an idea of how many folks are participating - don't vote yet if you haven't watched yet, but plan to in the next week or two. ^_^ So, what did you think? Like it more or less than other Mel Brooks comedies? Comparisons to other Frankenstein versions? Favorite parts/quotes?
Community Administrator SinisterDeath Posted April 21, 2009 Community Administrator Posted April 21, 2009 Of his movies, that is my favorite one. Ever. The best part is with the litle girl and the sea-saw ^_^
Dunbar Posted April 21, 2009 Posted April 21, 2009 I saw it, and by the Gods, it was awesome I didn't expect it to be as funny as it was The first 20 minutes or so I thought dragged a little, and I prepared myself for the worst, but as soon as he boarded that train everything when uphill. I loved everything about it, the crazy acting, Aye-gore (everything about him), the jokes, the monster, the nods and winks to the original, the black and white. Ye gods. "But you made a yummy sound!" "I did not!" Also, Walk this way, this way! 9/10!
reyler Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 "Some warm milk? Ovaltine?" *giggle* And apparently Cloris Leachman ad-libbed all that. :D
claireducky Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 I think the most classic line from it: "Walk this way..." *lurches off* *Wilder and chick follow, lurching the same way*
Dunbar Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 "Igor, help be with the bags" "Sure, you take the blonde, I'll take the one with the turban!"
Cadsuane Posted April 23, 2009 Author Posted April 23, 2009 I watched this Tuesday night, and I have to admit I didn't think it was hugely funny. I was entertained enough, and giggled in a few places (notably - "walk this way" and "help me with the bags"), but I was a little disappointed. I suspect I'd have found it funnier if I was more familiar with the source movies, but overall I prefer Spaceballs and History of the World. I think I need to rent Blazing Saddles, because while I've heard a lot about it, I think I've never seen it.
SBoydW Posted April 24, 2009 Posted April 24, 2009 So who's brain did you get? Abby some ones... Abby, Who? Abby.... Normal
Emperor Posted April 24, 2009 Posted April 24, 2009 I plan to watch this over the weekend. I wasn't overly impressed with Blazing Saddles. I know, shocking.
Emperor Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 Ok.. I lied. I plan to watch it tonight unless I am lying again.
petels Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 I think this might have been one of those movies that I loved when I saw it as a kid (because of the juvenile humor), but it didn't stand up to those expectations now that I'm an adult. The most interesting parts were the ones stolen from the "real" Frankenstein movie that I watched in college (for a class, nonetheless). So either I watched this movie enough times as a child that I remembered pretty much all of it, or it's really that memorable, or it's just that predictable. I think I'm going with the last one. It wasn't all bad, though - it did put Tenshin to sleep.
Segurant Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 It's a good movie but I wouldn't say it was one of Brooks' best. I still prefer History of the World part one or Blazing Saddles. Spaceballs was good too.
Quibby Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 As an homage to the Boris Karloff version, the movie is excellent. However, I can't say that I thought it was one of Brooks' best. I do love how they did Igor, though.
Samuraiflip05 Posted May 15, 2009 Posted May 15, 2009 - it did put Tenshin to sleep. *Slaps Tenshin* One of my MB favorites. The Abby Normal line, and the walk this way etc, were all hilarious. The performance of Puttin' on the Ritz was pretty funny to. :D
