Ogier Impact

Any thoughts out there as to what impact Ogier will have at the last battle?  How many will pick up their long-handled axes?

The Ogier are a total X factor.

 

I don't think their major impact will come via direct combat.

We don't know how many stedding there are.

We don't know, or even have a decent idea of average population per stedding.

 

Jordan deliberately kept all of that very vague so he could surprise us.  I'm willing to be surprised.

That, and didn't they mention something about a book I think? Where they just picked up and left Randland? If I remember right Loial got really angry about about that bit.

They say Ogier are implacable enemies but will there be enough weapons.  In the Trolloc Wars they could have probably sung weapons but very few can sing now.

If the non-seanchan ogier need to arm and outfitt an army, Rand would see it done.  Ogier are bigger and stronger then trollocs, remember.

 

That scene in KoD when Loial and Elder Hamon pick up there axes to go fight the Trollocs, made me think of dark gritty movies when some people load and pump their shotguns.

Well there are atleast over a thousand. I am hoping that at the great stump Loial will be able to convince a few to join him. I think they will probly be leaving after TG.

They were talking about opening the Book of Translation to leave the world, but there hadn't been consensus yet.

True, they don't number what the elves did, but still considered an ally against the DO.  SO leaves you with the same melancholy feeling.  Humanity is losing a friend.

I see the Ogeir as equivalent to the Ents rising.  As with Ents and Ogier it is difficult to raise them but extremely hazardous to your health if accomplished.

They could always use power-wrought weapons.  The oath that the Aes Sedai take specifies only that they can't make weapons for one man to kill another.  I don't think it'll happen, but it is possible to slip it past the three oaths

I thought Ogier sang to trees in a 'spiritual' way to encourage their growth etc....

Loial had sung himself a bo staff in one of the books.  Maybe the singing condenses th grain of the wood, making it harder, or less breakable.

Did he Sing to it before or after chopping the tree to make it a staff? Before, I think since that would make most sense.

I think it was a more organic process.  The tree being alive both before and after.  It kind of birthed the staff.

As Toad said, I think it was alive, then suddenly a weapon.

 

He also commented about it being very sad as the tree wanted to become a weapon. Or maybe that it enjoyed becoming a weapon.

 

He did it while in the strange alternative universe where the Shadow had won. When Rand, Hurin and Loial were chasing Fain and the Horn.
