It struck me yesterday that the whole world could be doomed if Alanna died. We know that Warders don't always die when their Aes Sedai do, but even if Rand survived Alanna dying, it wouldn't do him any good. The shock of it would at least make him let go of Saidin, which would be fatal if he was facing one of the Forsaken. If I was Rand I'd keep her locked in a padded room and wrapped in cotton wool.

Could Alanna prove to be his Achilies(sp) heel when the Last Battle comes? Or would his three "wives" being bonded to him buffer him against her death?

He can like, ingnore her so I don't think there will be any probs when she dies...

This is not the case, we learned from Elyas that even if a warder/Aes Sedai is not emotionally close or even lets each other feel there emotions that they will still experience the shock from their death. Adding this on top of how Rand is now he might go loco, possibly even fully give over to Lews Therin

I don't think he'd go bonkers if Alanna died. He can channel and we've already seen that that affects the bond, like the Compulsion aspect, it doesn't work on men who can channel.

But then she'd suffocate!! Or starve! :P

I think Alanna will release the bond pretty soon.

Would the Pattern allow it to effect him that way?  It obviously keeps Alanna from manipulating him like other AS can do with their warders

The bond doesnt let them manipulate the Warder, unless you mean drawing strength from them. And we have to remember that Rand can channel, and we dont know if a Warder who can channel is affected differently by the bond, or if he is resistant to that effect or anything.

As for the Pattern, if the Pattern was going to do something it would have stopped Alanna from bonding him in the first place.

Also, Lan didnt "go loco" when his bond to Moiraine was broken, and personally I think Rand would deal with it better than Lan could, going off how attached to Moiraine Lan had become. Rand isnt emotionally attached to Alanna at all, so while yes the bond being broken could affect him badly I think he will deal with it well. He has dealt with worse.

Look at how he reacts to losing his hand. He DOESNT react. Min says he has already moved on from it moments after it happened, because theres nothing that could be done about it. I think Alanna dying wouldnt do that much to him.

I wonder, considering our hero has an issue with killing women, and he's bonded to four of them, what the effect on Rand would be if not only did Alanna die, but he was the one to kill her?

The bond does allow an AS to manipulate the Warder, Myrelle does it to Lan when he first reaches her, Verin asks Alanna why she did not try to manipulate Rand when she bonds him (Alanna responds that she tried but nothing happened). There are many instances where this "Compulsion" aspect of the bond is mentioned, it is also mentioned that it does not work on Rand. It seems pretty clear that a man who can channel is affected by the bond differently than a non-channeller.

I don't think her death would effect Rand much. Even if he were fighting one of the forsaken at the timeand lost control, then LTT would just take Saidin instead (is that good or bad ;D)

I wonder too, did Lan handle it better than most because Moiraine isn't really dead? Or is it simply the breaking of the bond and not the death of the AS that effects a warder.

Also, I don't think Alanna will die anyway.

I have always been of the opinion that its not Rand's ability to channel that proofed him against Alanna's Compulsion, it was that he was holding on to saidin. Since it didn't work before, why would it work now?

The reason Lan didnt go crazy when his bond was broken was becasue it was altered to transfer to another woman rather than just snap. If he hadnt had this protection placed on him than he would have gone crazy and went to the blight and taken half of it to the grave with him.
