Give Rand a Hand!

Another shameless AMOL speculation topic:

What signifigance does, and will be made of, Rand's missing hand have from his "DOH!" meeting with Hemorrhage?  He claims he can still feel it yet it is not there.  Will he have some kind of SAIDEN hand made of the power? Will it become a sort of Balefire hand?  I am sure that it was not Jordan's intention, but Rand is slowly becoming more a more like a certain Lord Skywalker I've heard of.

One could hope he puts a Chain-Saw on it a-la Bruce Campbell!

Certainly.

Luke had dead guys in his head long before Rand did.

"Use the Force, Rand.  Use the Force."

Both the Force and LTT, and the protagonist's problems mastering both ( to borrow from the other side of a different thread ), are metaphors for a young man's uncertainties and fears.

Like Luke, when Rand finally reaches the point of being able to trust himself he too will become a Jedi Master.

Ahh, perhaps an angreal hand made in Camelyn by Trankand.  Perhaps it will become a fourth age treasure for future heroes and heroines to seek.  Behold, the Grand Hand of Rand from the Last Stand!

Arrrrrghhh!  The Dark One would be shivering in his timbers!!!  The Pirate Dragon Reborn!!  But what ship would said pirate be sailing since a pirate needs a ship to be a pirate.  Without a ship, a pirate is a mere brigand, but still a scallywag, savvy?  And he would need an able bodied crew.  He couldn't sail all the way to TG all by his onesie, now can he?  But a hook is a good idea.

I still contend that he will be given the Grand Hand of Rand for the Last Stand, made by Elayne Trankand.  Tis with this Hand he will Command his Band across the sand into the tainted Land, just as he planned.

But what of his Herron brand?

And? Will he then Break the land, and once more male channellers be banned? I laughed when I read that. Good stuff.

The idea of Elayne making a hand for Rand (here we go again) does sound appealing, but I wonder if it will have any extra functions.

Rod of Balefire for the index finger, Choeden Kal access key for the middle finger (that made me laugh as well), Saidin well, and a sa'angreal to boot? It'd be great to see all that. Realistically though, I just think she will make it a metal hand, somehow using a new type of Bond that will make the fingers move as a normal one.

Heres another thought.

On another thread, I asked what people thought of the fourth line. I personally thought it meant something about Narishma. But as the debate went on it was mentioned that maybe Elayne WOULD make a hand for Rand a Hand that would enable him to safely wield Callandor without meeting the usual requirements (being in a circle with a woman in control). Some people disagreed as Saidin has been Cleansed and there would be no need anymore, but the way I see it, while Saidin was Cleansed the effects the Taint already had on male channeler were not removed. Now, Cadsuane said that while Callandor magnified the Taint it also encouraged the wildness of the mind, so the Cleansing only prevents one side effect and not the other. I believe that Rand will just as likely lose it post-Cleansing as pre-Cleansing, so the most likely thing about this hand Elayne makes would be for it to enable Rand to use Callandor safely. If anything else maybe a well, due to the problems they have had with Saidin.

Come on, give the poor man a break here... He's half-mad, hearing dead people, and you want him to Bond his hand as a Warder? What if the thing developed a mind of its own?

*imagines RandHand stabbing Rand with Callandor*

Hand *makes hand puppet* "...I win again, Lews Therin."

What I'm more concerned about is...where is the old hand.  Was it destroyed or just blown off.

Is it still out there, crawling around, looking for the master that abandonded it, indiscriminately killing everyone it encounters as it creeps ominously towards Shayol Ghul where it knows it will eventually find Rand and claim it's vengence!!!!!

AHHHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!

Sorry, got a little carried away there.  I watched 1408 on disc last night.

To take the Pirate Dragon Reborn one step further...

Give Rand a hook. We know Mat will lose an eye -> eyepatch. Then all that is needed is for Perrin to lose a leg, and get a pegleg. Voila! One super pirate ;D

And perhaps Valan Luca can be a parrot, he certainly is colourful enough ;D

I got the impression that the hand essentially disentigrated when the fire ball hit, so there is no hand crawling around.

I think it unlikely Rand will get a new hand, a new body maybe, but not a new hand. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the thought of a power wrought hand, but it seams unlikely.

  • 2 weeks later...

*the gleeman bows and grins*

Always a pleasure to entertain!

Will Rand demand miss Trankand create his ter'angreal hand for his last stand across the three fold land, full of sand, in the Blight Land as he planned?  And, it would be grand if Rand met up with the Band of the Red Hand.
