Heh, I've always likened the way the One Power (specifically saidin) is described to drug use, personally.  The heightened sensations, the feeling like you're invincible, coupled with nausea.  In fact, a few times it made me wonder if RJ experimented a little during Vietnam :p

That's how I always saw it too. The colours seem more vibrant, hearing is heightened, you have a distorted perception of time etc.
