How To Build A Campfire

Welcome to our campfire ?

This week we celebrate our victory against the Seanchan but let's go further in this thread!

***

Let's share our own victories, our own fights and battle stories.

Old ones, new ones,

all tales are welcome !

***

I'll start with a light one ?

I finally managed to draw a good looking hand (yes, really XD). I always thought it was impossible for me to draw a pretty  realistic hand and so I never really tried it ... up until recently.

What about yous ?

Good looking hands are really hard to draw!

I was almost always big for my age, and as a result, I have ended up rather like Perrin, slow and thoughtful, scared of hurting someone. But my anger is rather like Rand's. It will flare up really quickly, and sometimes I act before I can even think about what I am doing. This terrifies me. My greatest fear is hurting someone I care about, or not being able to protect them. Because of this, I am in a constant battle to control my anger, and to find a good way to get rid of it. But it is really hard to do. I have finally managed to enter the Void, which is a big help, but sometimes I can't even get the flame to stay, let alone spend five minutes with it. This is where you wonderful people come in. My memories of DM are always a quick way to make me laugh, or to calm me down. I love the things you say, and the people you are. One of my favorite memories is when a month or so after I had joined the Warders, @JamesBrown showed up to my graduation thread, and congratulated me. I found this hilarious at the time, but now it is a moment that can remind me that there is good in the world, and that I am not alone. I have too many favorite memories to share, but I just wanted you guys to know that you play a big part in my life, and in helping me control the thing I fear the most. Thank you for that.

I love your stories! I am so glad we could help you, Aman. Sooh, that's amazing!

My latest victory was dominating a really tough semester in uni. I pulled off an A- in both classes, both of which were tough.

Scissors... i never managed to cut things straight ?

@Asha'man Shar'amanThat's an interesting story you shared. One of my daughters really struggles with the anger she feels.  She's young but I know that breathing exercises won't be enough.

I - on the other hand - usually feel angry at myself more than at other people. That's another tough fight ? Trying not to always aim for perfection, and settle for things that are "good enough".

I can't cut anything either! This is mostly due to me being left handed, but still...

Breathing exercises never help me. It feels stupid, and I hate when people tell me to just breathe. The Flame and the Void is helpful if you have time, but it takes a lot of practice, and sometimes you don't have that time in an argument.

I am sorry about that. I know how it feels to not be good enough. I struggle with that as well, especially since I have a lot of things that separate me from other people, and it makes it hard sometimes. One of the things that makes me feel different or not good enough is that I have synesthesia, and I can never explain what I see or feel to other people. Every time I try, they never get it, and it feels like I can't explain well enough to let them understand. They won't understand what it feels like to see colors every time I think of someone or something, and the sense that comes with it. Just try to remember that you are good enough, even if it doesn't feel like it.

ditto.

synesthesia always fascinated me. especially being an artist. i've seen paintings done by some with it, showing how they see things, its really interesting. there's so much in it to unpack. another, perhaps more in touch way of seeing the world.

You are a lefty to?!

It's a crazy thing. I really want to know what the world looks like to other people, since it is so different for me.

yup lefty through and through

you'd probably find how we see the world mundane or boring. or who knows might be a break from what you normally see.

Yay!!! Someone who understands the torture of whiteboards!

That’s the problem though. I don’t know what the world looks like to most people, so I can’t judge! I would really like to know though. I might find it boring, but it would at least be nice to understand what other people perceive.

whiteboards, spiral bound notepads, scissors, can openers.....

does the synesthesia apply to photographs? do pictures look the same to you as in person?

Chained pens, doors, window blinds...

I see pictures in the colors they are, but they all have an almost translucent covering on them in the shape of the picture (usually a square). If this doesn’t make sense, let me know, and I will try to explain better. It is almost like trying to explain breathing. It just happens, so I don’t think about it all the time.

it's an endless list of right-handed oppression

sounds a bit like the translucent covering is a bit like a film or screen, an echo of what the images represent. which is really what photos are

Oh you left-handed people...

Although I crochet better with my left hand then with my right.. which is still weird to me. *shrugs*

I, tend to be pretty goal orientated with my wins. The Biggest is still my 'brave enough to fail' kickstarter. I'm super proud of that one and adore my coins. Sad I can't make more (dumb intellect laws, or something), but any successful KS I've run i'm really proud of.

brave enough to fail - that's an awesome quote ❤️

I'm right handed as well, but I always manage to stain my hands if I have to write on a whiteboard. But then I'm super clumsy lol

that is a good slogan. i tend to go a step further and embrace my failures. they're going to happen, we aren't perfect, and failure is designed to be learned from.

Yeah, it kind of is.

To the tune of The Age of Oppression

We drink to our youth, and to days come and gone

For the Age of Oppression is now nearly done

We'll drive out the injustice from this land that we own

With our blood and our steel we'll take back our home

All hail to lefties! We have rights too!

In the name of our honor we will drink and we'll sing

We're the children of equals, but we fight all our lives

Yet when we call for justice every one of us dies!

But this land is ours and we'll see it wiped clean

Of the scourge that has sullied our hopes and our dreams

All hail to lefties! We have rights too!

In the name of our honor we will drink and we'll sing

We're the children of equals, but we fight all our lives

Yet when we call for justice every one of us dies!

Also, this is a joke, no offense to any right handed people.

And, I am an Imperial, so don’t try to recruit me to the Stormcloaks, traitors.

I play my guitar right handed. Maybe it's just the way we move our dominant hands?

That is a great idea! I really like it.

The big problem with whiteboards is that you end up smudging all of your writing if you are left handed. It makes me feel really bad for all the left handed people before pencils were around.
