DRAGONMOUNT

A WHEEL OF TIME COMMUNITY

I'm nervous as heck about joining this site for some reason @_@ but eager to make friends who also follow the wheel of time series! My name is Chris, but I prefer to be called Sephi.

I'm 30 years old and started reading the books about a month or two ago, and I'm at book nine so far. (I'm a wee bit obsessed). I'm not sure what to say, other than that back on the Wheel of Time Reddit, my opinions tend to be somewhat controversial. (especially because I hate the fourth book's first 39 chapters)

My favorite character is Perrin, originally due to his wolf abilities but then it grew even further than that because he went to the Two Rivers and rescued it (Which Rand and Mat didn't do) which kind of made his struggle feel much more personal, in it's own way. Regardless, my favorite book so far is "The Dragon Reborn" (book 3) , but I'm prone to going through these books rather quickly lol. (I finished Eye of the World after about two weeks, the Great Hunt after about one week. Dragon Reborn after two weeks. Can't remember for the shadow rising but it felt like I was reading that book for 50 years and just wouldn't end- didn't help that I was constantly putting the book down and procrastinating from reading it- and often had to force myself to read it at all, because it was hard to get myself to do it. It became an obligation to finish it, all the way until chapter 40- then I plowed through the rest in a couple days as I loved that part. Finished fires of heaven in a week and a half. Books 7 and 8 I mostly skimmed, to be honest. Those two were just hard to read. I'm back to reading with Book 9 though!)

Hmm, not sure what to say. My favorite female character changes VERY often, but I tend to dislike Nyenaeve- if that helps.

Well, it helps me, I dislike Nynaeve completely, and Perrin was my favourite to begin with but that changed...because Faile, bleh. We all have parts of the books we skim or skip, it seems a common issue so it won't be an unpopular view around here!

Anyway, hi Sephi, welcome to DM. I'm Tay. Make yourself at home, ask away if you have questions. You can chat  all things books and TV here on the forums or if you feel like socialising, you can visit the Clubs tab up there ^^^ and find one that appeals. There's a role play club, a writing club, various book based clubs etc. Explore, have fun, don't be nervous. We only bite now and then.

oh burn me....did my new thread about my Wheel of time tabletop game get posted in the wrong section then? If it did, I'm SUPER sorry! I'm still learning how to navigate this place and where things go.

And honestly, Faile is only starting to bother me recently when Elyas was proven right about her liking to be yelled at.. before that, she was just starting to make no sense but then when I found out why via him..I started to dislike her a whole lot more, but I never ceased liking Perrin!

Winter's Heart is an alright read so far. Typical slow pacing of the series so far seems to be holding it back from greatness but it's not as bad as some past books so far...

edit: LIGHT! there's hardly anywhere I can post on this forum because it's RIDDLED with spoilers.....I may have to avoid anywhere except the two threads I created until I can finish the whole flaming series!

LMAO  yeah, I'm afraid the vast majority of folks here have read and devoured the Books as they were published. And several more times since. There are always new readers coming along of course but it's very hard to stay spoiler free this long after the final book publication. I guess it's going to be an issue for anyone coming to the TV series without reading the books. Not sure how the Admins plan to handle that yet.

Your table top game is in the right place, don't panic lol. Our RP Club isn't that kind of RP. We do post based writing, our own characters set in the WoT world.

I didn't really stop liking Perrin, I just felt he got a bit hen pecked. There was a tendency to make him look slow and stupid which he's not. It picks up speed eventually. The last couple of books in particular just fly by.

Welcome to the dragonmount!

I like Perrin too. I think he's my favorite character (not 100% sure).

And I've seen dislike of Nyenaeve on both this forum and the 17th shard, so you're not alone in that.

I also joined Tarvalon.net. They seem to at least have some sections where people who haven't finished the series can post. (for those who read the first 8 books, actually). But that place seems to have a lot of long moments where nobody posts, and I often would google topics and find old posts from this place and enjoy reading them- so I joined here too! I also still post on the reddit. I don't know- I feel like you should have something simliar. A place for those who have only read say...maybe the first six books? I don't know whom I'd ask to get such a thing and I'm sure they'll have to do something one the TV series comes out on Amazon prime or whatever.

Funnily enough, I found out about the series because I was looking for a fantasy series to read and when I went on barnes and nobles website, I saw Eye of the World as the first book listed under fantasy. and I went "hey! I've seen that book cover before somewhere. Hmm..I want a long series." and then I checked and saw it said 14 books long and said "PERFECT." lol. I didn't learn until after reading the first two books and being half way through the third book, that there was a TV series coming soon.

It's funny, I really liked her at first, in the first two or three books. But all the books after that- her constant negative attitude and short temper and acting superior to everyone (Without having a good reason anymore) was just annoying.

Not really. I like that she healed gentling but c'mon. She's often an insufferable bitch. (I hope occasional cussing is allowed on this site) It's disappointing because I really liked her a whole lot at first! But if she softens as much as has been hinted at in the books itself (Ever since Lan has now been unofficially her warder)....she's taking a ridiculously long time to get there!

Green Ajah. I like them. Them and Blue Ajah are a easily a tie for me, when it comes to favorite Ajahs. All others come second or third, etc after them.

In my tabletop game, my character Jessica came from another world- so she became Blue Ajah without being sure what it was (long story. You can see the thread if you wish), but if she had better understood the Ajahs, she definitely would have chosen Green.

Not sure if this would be @SinisterDeath's territory as a possible forum board.

I know when the Books were still being published we had a set time period (6 months maybe) where there was a spoiler free area until people had been given the opportunity to read. Any longer and it was tough luck.

Great fun to have them all to read in a one-er. I started with the first one being published so it took a very long time to get to the end lol. Over 20 years in fact.

I dunno what happened to the old wot discussion mods, they'd be the experts on answering this.

I'll look into it though.
