Welcome to your new home in the Tower! The Gray Ajah welcomes all sisters, but we tend to attract Aes Sedai who feel a passion for the Law. There are the obvious Grays who love nothing more than sitting down with a legal tome and reading through the codes, but there are also less obvious Grays who enjoy roving around the countryside helping local judiciaries to enforce the laws of that region. Just because you are a Gray sister, does not mean you are trapped in the Tower, only to be sent out when nations need to negotiate their boundaries. (-Phelix)

Character Development Threads

These threads should be done for every Sister. Posted on this board, they will serve two purposes: First, each should include an "Aes Sedai Bio" at the top that tells us about your character and what other Sisters in the Ajah would know or perceive about her (for example, your personality, your general views, past actions, etc.). Since biographies of characters often do not include their time in the Tower (and cannot be edited after approval), this fixes that problem.

Second, the threads will help keep track of old RPs any one particular character was involved with; ideally, all the RPs you've done (that are still available, anyway) should be linked on this thread. Why? Because it's fun to read other people's stories and learn about their character! More practically speaking, though, they help you to keep track of what you have done over a long period of time, and fellow Ajah members may desire to know what their Sisters have been up to these years. We also can learn better about your character this way.

Each Sister should have her own thread, though there need only be one post per thread. The post can be edited to add in new RPs as they are completed.

These are separate from Monthly RP Reporting (see below), which is its own thread.

The desired format is below:

Character as an Aes Sedai:

Role-play History

Arranged from oldest on bottom to newest at the top (in terms of IC timeline).

Role-play Reporting

Preferably, RP reporting should be done on a monthly basis. For any role-play threads your Sister is involved in, please report here (Link TBD). This is separate, and more detailed, from your personal character development thread. This is where the Ajah Head will come to gather information to pass on to the WT Staff, keeping track of Active sisters.

Current Gray Ajah Projects/RPs

This section will list any current Ajah-wide, major RPs.

  • None

Major/ Important Ajah RPs (WIP) - The List goes from Most Recent (at the top) to the Oldest (at the bottom). This list includes Ajah-related RPs and sometimes major/important Tower RPs that your character could have reasonably taken part in (like Caladesh's attack on the WT).

One Last Stand: 999 NE. Caladesh, a Dreadlord/M’aeshadar, wreaks havoc in the White Tower; Lyanna (Keeper) is killed, among others, and Lanfir (Amyrlin) was burnt out and disappeared. (Caladesh was murdered by Lanfir in his cell; public knowledge is only that he was executed by the White Tower).

One Last Stand: [Link 1] [Link 2] [Link 3] [Link 4] [Link 5]

Sitters to Aringill: The Gray Sitters have decided to send an embassy to Andor, to the city of Aringill where they have found a large mansion to try and find a cure for Derek, son of Lord Hearne. Dawn and Nyssa will depart for Tear to get the son to Aringill and then the Yellows to try to Heal him.

  • See also this thread for completed Gray RPs (not necessarily Major/Important ones; i.e. those that have a huge change on the Tower or world)

RolePlay Ideas

Anyone can suggest RP ideas; please start new threads for each individual idea for planning.

Things that need doing/ Recently Completed:

  • A definitive Ajah Timeline. - (WIP) - When did sisters join the Gray Ajah? Who was what position, and when? - Link TBD.
  • Gray Ajah Politics - (Completed; Below)
  • Role-play Thread Copies - find and link important Gray Ajah RPs.

Ajah Politics (WIP)

Current Allies: Red, Green
Neutral/Undecided: Yellow

Neutral-Opposition: Blue, Brown, White

The list is arranged, in general, from our strongest allies to our strongest opponents. Keep in mind that the list is mostly a guideline, and an Ajah may sway any way depending on the matter at hand.

  • Red: The Gray supported the Red to oppose a change in the gentling law. They also sided with the Red after another law change requiring Sisters leaving from the WT to dangerous missions to have the Hall's permission. The Grays supported the Reds in raising Shevara to the Amyrlin Seat.
  • Green: Grays and Greens often support each other in the Hall. The alliance between the Reds and Greens have made them a stronger ally. They supported raising Shevara to the Amyrlin Seat.
  • Yellow: Considered neutral bordering on opposition. Yellows made a faction with Blues and Browns against the Greens after Lanfir chose another Green as Keeper (against her promise to do otherwise) when she was raised Amyrlin. Though the Amyrlin has changed, it is doubtless the Yellows' position did. One of the three Sitters stood the first time to support Shevara to the Amyrlin Seat, and then all stood when asked a second time; they were the third-to-last to stand.
  • Blue: The Brown, Blue and Yellow Ajah formed an alliance against the Greens after Lanfir went back on her word to chose a Blue Keeper, choosing a fellow Green instead. They are also considered to border between neutral and opposition.
  • Brown: The Brown Ajah has been at odds with the Greens ever since the disaster at Namandar (an AoL city which an expedition from the WT was sent to investigate), and border between neutral and opposition.
  • White: In The Shadow Rising, it is said: "There was no love lost between Red and White; they had stood on opposite sides in the Hall of the Tower for a thousand years. White stood with Blue... But Whites prided themselves on dispassionate logic."  Considering we are allied with the Reds, the White is considered to border between neutral and opposition.

DM Gray Ajah Customs

  • A sister who wishes to join the Gray Ajah will be accepted after swearing her oaths, but upon arriving in the Ajah’s quarters, she will be put on trial for her past actions. Any lies, pranks she got away with, or crimes she committed before joining the Ajah will be brought against her. She can call witnesses to help her mount a defense. One Sitter will serve as the prosecutor for her trial, while a senior sister will serve as her Advocate/Defender. The Head Clerk will judge the trial.
  • Sitters are elected by a process where sisters nominate their peers. The Ajah debates until only two or three sisters are agreed upon by consensus, then the Ajah votes by secret ballot, the winner takes the seat in the Hall.

Ajah Facts and Customs from the Books

  • The main thrust of the Gray Ajah is mediation and negotiation.
  • The Ajah is ruled by a council of varying number, but always an odd number.
  • The leader of the council is considered by Gray sisters to be the head of their Ajah and is known as the Head Clerk, but in fact she has less authority than most Ajah heads and has to depend on gaining consensus among the council members.

Eyes-and-Ears Signals

While only a few Sisters in an Ajah know who heads the Ajah's Eyes-and-Ears, signals, which are taught to all sisters within the Ajah, are put out for when they have an urgent message to give any sister of the Ajah that happens by. Signals are only put out when the message is important and must be received as soon as time allows.

  • Balance scales, silver in color, with one side holding a small pile of salt.

Important Weaves

These are weaves you will learn as a Gray sister.
