My reads on other people, really.  I'm ~clearing half the players, so that just leaves you three.  The order is basically because I have nothing to eliminate you and Tinker as a team, whereas you and Ben seem less likely.  I'm going to check to see if there's anything that makes me think Ben/Tinker is less likely than you/Ben.

...Ben/Tinker might actually be less likely than Ben/Verb.  Verb really hasn't said much about either of them before now, save for calling Ben his strongest townread on D1 with basically no explanation.  Ben really hasn't said much about/towards Verb, though they like...flipped on their thoughts on Shad about claiming mafia.  Verb originally thought it was more likely to come from scum but then Shad trended up; Ben started by disagreeing with Verb but then grew MORE concerned about Shad.  Since then, he's never really let go of it, even though I don't think anybody has even come close to suggesting they'd be interested in Shad as a lynch candidate.

Ben's had very little towards Tinker, but Tinker's taken a really weird approach if they're teammates.

I generally have a good feel about Shad because of his interactions with Turin. Voting Turin for a pretty legit D1 read and unvoting appropriately after. I gotta say though that I felt better about Turin before the jester-reaching. That might have been trying too hard since he'd been called out for letting the game stall which again makes me feel better about reading Shad town.

Given last game, I can imagine Sooh giving the same responses as both town or scum.

So let's dive back a bit.

What is your general take-away from my scum game?  You have to have one.  We were as active in QT as we were in the thread.  Let's say, sum it up in a paragraph or two.

You hid in meta, tried to pocket people, played a mediator which made it hard to see an agenda and cast subtle aspersions on people the way you are doing with me in this game. The real attack on me is not openly claiming that we're scumbros; it's how you phrase references to my posts, using words like stubborn, derail, accountable, without coffee and a shower, I'd say it's NAI, etc. You came at me with a jokey, friendly, off-the-wall thing, and when I simply claimed town and didn't argue argue beyond that, giving you no lever to paint me as a wolf, you started trying to subtly erode what I say and am likely to say or do (like sticking to an honest position) by discrediting it with carefully-chosen adjectives. You are a wordsmith, and you are crafting your words to color the other players' perceptions of whatever I might say. This is what you did in the last game, too. That's my general takeaway on your scum game.

I think this is a pretty great analysis. Made me re-read since I didn't really think much of the interaction until I got to this post. While it's interesting for sure, I'm not sure I noticed all that much of that in this game. My experience with Ben is limited to 1 game. I find it's pretty interesting that both Shad and Ben have spent some time this game dissecting each other's playstyles. They must have gotten way too friendly in that QT. Difficult to say what there is to work with though, If I really try to get in Ben's head I can see it making sense but it seems a reach.

I agree with some of that analysis but not all. Friendly-off the wall, sure, but primarily as a tension diffuser for when the game is going a direction he doesn't like. I don't see him trying to slow paint people though. On the contrary I've seen him go hard early on but later on in the game he does move toward being a mediator.

PSA:Taking a flight at 7pm GMT. I think that's deadline ish time. Will check in before.

Do you have any reads right now?

Soz, switched my phone off. It was 1 am. I honestly don't have good reads right now. I've played with Verb ages ago and I remember him taking a back seat early when both town and scum. I'm curious about BFG because she's made some statements which I didn't quite understand. Darthe has like 3 posts. I'm also unsure on you as well. You've been active, yet I haven't seen you take a stance against anyone.

I'm genuinely surprised at how the Ben & Shad thing just fizzled out. Anyone have any comments on that?

Ben you randed wolf again.

Close...I randed dog, but he's town.

I'm not a fan of Family Guy, either. I watched a few episodes the first season, and while the baby was funny, the show just couldn't hook me, which is odd, because I liked Married with Children (until they added the little kid) and the first several seasons of The Simpsons.

I liked this last night, it's a little awkward sounding but the thought process seems quite convoluted if mafia

I'm less certain today, there's more of a gap between shads post and bens response than I realised yesterday and the follow on exchange still reads oddly

@Clov Here's a BFG post I didn't quite understand. Did you think that Ben saying the bold is revealing in some way? I'm not sure how saying that would involve a "convoluted" thought process if scum.

I thought I quoted this earlier but it apparently didn't post?

if mafia the more obvious response is 'no' or similar not 'Brian's a safe claim let's respond with that'. I'd normally add that it involves a discussion about who gets what safe claim, but I think Bens impulsive enough to just claim without discussion even if there wasn't a couple of hours gap

Basically I don't think many people would immediately think of using a safe claim to answer a straight forward question. In reality it means little

I thought him randing "dog" was a bad joke about being a counter to wolves lmao. Completely went over my head that there's a dog in the show.

Basically if they're m/m together, they've had no direct interactions in the thread but Tinker actively fought one player giving Ben a free town read... only to kind of keep attention on him vs. Shad, even though it was highly unlikely Shad was going to ever be the loser if they thunderdomed it.

Can you explain that first part? What's the convoluted mafia thought process here?

This is also just such a weird play. I might say that it's potentially her just trying to look like she's contributing somehow but having no lynch on the table that round just provides another good alternative for scum? It doesn't make any sense.

This is actually a really awkwardly worded post.

"I might say it serves x scum agenda but it could alternatively serve y scum agenda so I don't know what to make of it."

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

FTR if the scum team is BFG/Clov, I'm considering permanent retirement, as I clearly have regressed in this game much more than I ever thought I would.

Is this the lie?

Posted

FYI, something I've said since I returned was a complete lie.  Discuss.

I mean, you're not retiring from Mafia in the event of a specific outcome lol

Because I want to know why he's voting me.  And I don't want a dogpile on me at this stage.  Just because he's probably town doesn't mean I'm not going to question motives.

Talk me through this, because it doesn't make sense to me.  I understand someone not letting themselves get lynched.  But if you're writing him off as cleared town, and he's voting you, I don't see how there's any uncertainty about his motive

of course not, heh - that part was just a joke, but it sets the stage

I am not writing him off - I specifically said that he hasn't been mechanically cleared yet, but that he's probably town.  And motive might not have been the right word to use -- "reasons" would be more proper, there.

@Ben

What is your stance on me at this moment?

@BFG

What are your top 2 for scum at this moment?

I really need to get answers to these 2 questions from these 2 people.

That makes more sense.

If Ben's a wolf I'm going to be mercilessly intolerant of stagnation from him in all future games lol

And since I'm town, I get a pass for stagnation as a wolf in future games. #levels

I also found it amazingly bad how Ben came at me starting off this phase even after I had claimed. I think he thought I would be the easiest of mislynches.

I really need a nap.

Until you commit suicide, it is only a claim in a game largely based upon  lying. Go take your nap, since you won't answer any questions anyway.

Basically my concern with Tiink is he's only really focused in the prime conversation of the moment. Turin vs Sooh, Shad vs Ben, BFG vs Clov are the only things he's had a say in--questions Turin's push and drops a vote there later, isn't really in the thread again to follow through before Turin's claim so ok. Takes my side over Ben in our initial argument but hasn't had much to say on it since and hasn't actually offered a take on me, just some negativity towards Ben. Same with BFG vs Clov--negative towards BFG but no take on the person she's arguing with.

Makes me wonder if he's just trying to fuel v/v violence from the sidelines without getting heavily involved. He sort of stopped talking about Ben coincidentally with other players calling us v/v. His interest in BFG seems to have dwindled as Chris and I are both starting to come around on her. I'm not seeing much independent progress here.

Now I don't remember why I quoted this. I think I meant to copy it to notepad as a reference for a Tiink ISO. Interesting points though, and I don't feel like he did much to dispel the argument since returning to the thread.

@Ben

What is your stance on me at this moment?

Town. I feel like the wolves are in Shad/Clovdyx/Tiink, but I'm starting to question BFG after 8 pages of "BFG might be a wolf" from Shad and Clovdyx, even though they may well be the scum team, which would be a win, because I am the only one in this game that would vote them, and I am the only one in the game who is still not convinced that Shad is town.

And on that note, in response to Clovdyx's comment that I have not moved off of Shad despite the fact that he will never be lynched this game, So what? I'm not going to call him town if I think he's a wolf, and if I'm wrong, and I'm tunneling on a townie that is obvious to the rest of the game, again, so what? It is not the first time I have been wrong, nor will it be the last, and I have already seen as bad and worse reads/tunnels from other, more experienced mafia players. That is just part of the nature of the game. In this game, either I am wrong, or I am the only one who guessed him correctly, and either way, the result will be the same--he will last at the very least until there are only three players, assuming the game goes that far.

As the game goes on though, you all might want to question why the consensus town read, who is also the most active poster in the game, is still alive,

Ben can you elaborate on your reads on verb, tiinker, Chris?

BFG, can you check my question to you, please?

Posted

@Verb it very much depends on which part of the thread I'm reading which means most thoughts come with a tonne of caveats

I haven't reread anything since the last time I was asked although I'm starting to question how much of my read on Chris is the 'fear'/caught up in a few posts

Without any extra thought my bottom 3 is chris/you/tiinker, but your trio splits made me realize how much Ben has been dropping off so

No. They're just gut feelings.

Newsflash:  Tiink is town

Is this a cop claim?

Ben, why you mad bro?

I'm not mad, I'm just not enjoying the game.

Why Tiinker?

Because of how he analyzed the wagons.  I'm also a big fan of wagonomics, and I use it all the time.  I also happen to loathe the No Lynch under almost all conditions, and it's more than he used wagonomics....but the way he used it, shows me that he's coming from a townie POV.  If not, then he's identified an amazing way to completely fool me, and I'm ok with that.
