FYI, I'm going to add a backup queue to the queue thread - see pg 75 of AJ's recent game for Shad's suggestion.  I like it, so I'm using it.

If you skip your spot on the queue, I'll add you to the backup queue at the bottom of that queue thread post.....and then when you're ready, I'll bump you to the top of the normal queue and you'll have next.

This should help eliminate me updating it each time I bump 1 person down a spot or 2 and they're still not ready when they come up again.

That makes no sense.  If you waited 2 months to go from the bottom of the queue to the top, it stands to reason you should be able to run your game once you are ready.....all this does is allow me to not have the need to update your spot on the queue every game (I usually just drop people 1-2 spots when they say they aren't ready yet).

So yeah, I think this will help people know what is coming with a greater degree of accuracy, and also limit the # of times I need to update the queue.  Nothing there about exclusiveness, unless there's a hidden definition I'm unaware of.

Ok, nevermind then I guess.

Moving on, I've added the backup queue to the queue thread and hopefully that'll make things easier for peeps going forward.

That doesn't sound very fair to me.

I'll be honest, I've had a problem with the way the queue has worked for a very very long time.

I just haven't said anything because I never wanted anyone to think it was personal.

And to be as clear as I can, it's not personal. I'm not trying to screw anyone out of their spot or push aside someone who just needs an extra week or two to get their game running.

But I just don't think it's fair that someone can sign up, go MIA, get "bumped down" and whenever they show up again they get bumped back to the top.

What about people who just wait in line normally how is that fair to them?

And on that note, forget bumping people, how long does someone get to just sit at the top of the queue and not make their game?

I probably sound more upset than I am and this is because, like I said, I've been holding this back for a long time.

But it seems like now is the time to speak up or forever hold my peace so there it is.

Given these concerns, would you reconsider this backup queue thing and think about making the queue more fair for people who are actually active and ready to put up their games when they reach the top of the queue?

I think he already asked everyone and they were ok with it

Oh...well I wasn't asked.

Should have made a separate thread about it tbh.

Only reason I even knew anything was happening was because there were new posts in this thread.

@Nol, how do you propose that I tweak it?

Have a queue as per normal, when a game ends the next person is officially up (they can usually start a new sign up thread in the middle of the other persons game though).

From that day they have one week (7 days) to post a sign up thread. If they don't they are booted from the queue and have to rejoin at the back.

That seems like the fairest way to run a queue to me, especially one that lasts for several months at a time.

I think I'll combine it.  If people just need more time, then I like being able to let them "have next" once they finish.  If they basically abandon the queue, then I will add them to the bottom once they rejoin.

Sound better?

Now, there is also the question of how long can a game stay in sign ups but I think that's kind of a separate issue tbh.

Too hard to judge and put a time limit to, so I'm not going to really make rules around that.

Valid concern nowadays though

True, but see my answer above.  Hard to assign rules to given that people have RLs to deal with and activity peaks & wanes sometimes.  I'm not really concerned with it.
