Once upon a time, near a dacha in the Urals, the young tennis star Andrey Rublev approached a crossroad at midnight. He carried his request penned in blood. The fate of the professional tennis world hung in the balance...

 

 

"Master. I am young and very talented. It would be embarrassment to the motherland should I never win a major. Yet I cannot, for they will never retire. Can you help me?"

 

"Have you tried steroids?"

 

"Others have. They are not enough."

 

"I see.... The next tournament, it is in America, yes? I know a man with great influence and debt to me. You may have heard. They call him Littlehands. I will speak with him."

 

"Thank you my lord."

 

 

"Rest assured comrade, if they show their faces at the US Open, I will feed them to bears."

And so it came to pass that a young man's dreams would be made, and the tennis world would at long last raise on high a new Grand Slam champion. Spirits were high among the many who had striven so hard yet never been crowned the most prestigious of champions.

 

Or so it seemed at the outset. With the living legends of the sport all unexpectedly withdrawing, the title felt free for the taking. But as the quarter finals drew near, competitors began to take note of a strange occurrence among them. Unfamiliar faces had somehow qualified for the event, and they were winning. This couldn't be. After so many years of endless training to always come in second, each competitor felt this was his chance to finally win it all. The championship could not go to some unheard-of upstart.

 

Rublev fell in the fourth round to one of these mystery opponents, and then he understood. His Master had promised to kill them if they showed their faces, but the dark lord was always a trickster.

 

 

There was only one way to stop this. The line judges were paid off. The stage was rigged. The seven remaining known contenders signed a pact to eliminate the luchadores de tenis at all costs. But how could they know who to vote against, when they could not see their faces????

SET-UP:

There are 7 vanilla town, 2 mafia goons, and 1 mafia symp who knows who the goons are.

The game will play out in the form of a tournament. The faction which wins the tournament wins the game.

On N0, the Mafia goons may fix the round 1 pairings in any manner they like.

On D1, all players will vote to eliminate one of two contenders in each of five match-ups. In the event of a tie, Mafia will win the match-up or else the result will be randomized. Eliminated players will remain in the game and may continue to vote.

If Mafia are not eliminated, the game proceeds to N1. The Mafia goons will choose to eliminated two winners and one loser from the game entirely, and must substitute one loser of their choosing back into the game.

On D2, the three dead players will flip and the remaining 7 players will vote to eliminate one of two contenders in both of the remaining pairings. If the game has not been resolved, there will be a final D3 match to determine the winning faction.

TL;DR:

This game sounds more complicated than I think it really is. Your goal as a villager is to find other villagers and keep them in the tournament by voting the people they are paired against.

Ben, remember how I said in our last game to be perfect and everything would work out? Same applies here.

TBH I think this game is pretty close to an auto Town win minus tinfoil or the scum team just playing out of their minds. The important factor is to remember that they are the one setting the matchups, so there's some info to gain from that.

 

I'd say not to focus so much on the idea of "winning" your matchup. Even if you get knocked out of the tourney you could still potentially be left alive and able to vote in the later rounds. It's more important to try and find solid Town reads and vote accordingly to keep them in the bracket.
