What is the best approach to reading hydras ?

I'm not familiar with them, so I'm just wondering.

Do you read them separately and add up the result ?

Go with the stronger read ?

I mean... if you read one half as scum and the other half as town, do you flip a coin or something ?

 

Ultimately you're reading two individuals instead of one to resolve one slot.  It's necessarily something you have to take on a case by case basis, but hydras are pro town in general in so far as there's more opportunity for a slot to be villagery or slip up.

 

 

Care to explain this? It confused me. Sorry, but to me it read that in your opinion hydras are more likely to be town?

@Shanti, as of ~24 hours in I'd expressed town leans/reads on Kronos and Cass, and a faint mafia lean on Nyn, nobody else was posting anything alignment indicative (imo) and my questions were attempts to engage people to get reads, I've barely read anything since then but I'll give reads when I have them

@Kronos, given lack of interest at end of day (and both LZM and Darthe flipping town) I'd guess Alf was town. But this is terrible reasoning (which is what Shad was saying) and I don't have a lot of confidence in it. I would look elsewhere today though

Thats what I thought but wanted to be sure. Reminded me of the movie where the kid would walk around placing glasses of water everywhere and they put on tin foil hats. Think it had Mel Gibson...Signs? Maybe. I dunno. Anywho, back to my reading. Thank you, Cass.

I dont have much to add atm. I want more bfg in the game. Less shad in the game. And kronoz is most likely town cause he's a hot mess as scum. But that's soley based on him. Dont have much of an opinion on killa.

Off the top of my head i cant really remember much from them. I mean they posted but i dont recall something that jumped at me. Just me hazing shanti a bit.

 

When my weekend srarts tomorrow after work i might give them a look see.

I'm truly shocked that anyone else is under fire above her at this point. Even with Cuth in the equation... My scum list has changed quite a bit upon my re-read except CuthaNyn I'm more convinced than ever that they're scum and everyone seems (almost) oblivious to their scum play.

Initial mindmeld, but she started pretty peppy in Peg + Cat as well... Is extra pep a bad thing wrt Shanti specifically, for you?

If Shanti was peppy in peg+cat as town why were you suspicious of it this game?

Mostly her rapid-fire entry here drew my attention as different to last game, and the pep/play tone seemed possibly overdone.

 

Went back and looked - the rapid-fire is different, the pep/play is similar enough. #earlygamesmallthings /shrug

You seem to think she's overplaying the pep - as if trying to appear to be using peppy-meta?

 

 

I think I answered most of this in response to Tigs/you earlier, but FTR I didn't see it as overplaying meta so much as simply reading as possibly overplayed, if that makes sense? 

 

This is the post I wanted to go back to... why focus on the pep-meta part, which I'd concluded may be similar enough, but not the 'rapid-fire is different' part?

 

 

It makes me really sad that I am just now getting into the game enough to be playful and now I'm overplaying my pep... the "rapid-fire" if I'm understanding what that is enough was honestly just part of my playfulness and trying to be lighter in this game because I got too serious last game and it took a toll on me as I'm sure everyone saw. 

 

That is, if the "rapid-fire" was me asking people if they were woofy? *shrug* I don't know what else it could be, but I was just trying to join in on the fun banter everyone always has. Maybe I'm too awkward of a person to do that

Those of you who have played with tig as scum help me out here. Was she absent a ton during? Because I am not seeing that as scummy for her yet. She usually picks up more steam as the game gets going. I would like her to touch base before eod though.

 

I don't know if this has been answered, but I'll answer it again if it has. Tigs tends to almost... overcompensate when she is Scum. She tries so hard to avoid the stereotype that being Scum brings that she over does her townieness. She gets very amped up and REALLY over picks at smaller details. At this point in the game I am honestly convinced she is not Scum, but Town.

Okay, caught up atm.

 

I don't like the Dice/Alf exchange. Dice's questioning of a lack of response on a null D1 vote also raises my eyebrows. (I'm agreeing with Nyn which scares the bejeezus out of me)

 

It took me a good two hours to read through the exchange (my daughter is in a mood today) but I seem to recall not being bothered by any of Alf's responses.

 

@Dice- why was it such a big deal to you? Then when he responded you seemed to be beating a dead horse in keeping it going.

 

Nyn's play is consistent with both roles. I've still not recovered from the game with her, Ed, and DPR being the dream scum team. As I've stated before, she always seems scummy to me so I don't expect to have an actual read on her without more days.

 

When I first started reading the catch-up posts I was leaning scum on Darthe because he was playing much like he did D1 in the last game but then he picked up in activity. This doesn't clear him in my mind it just has me leaning away from that initial scum read.

 

I don't think I've seen Killa as scum so I have no comparison to go on. Her not liking her association with Shanti's "townie behavior" has my mind boggled but it doesn't necessarily scream scum just weird.

 

@Killa-why does the comparison or being related to Shanti bother you?

 

I'm not influenced one way or another on Cuth just becauae nothing has stood out to me so far.

 

DPR being busy has me biting my nails because I don't like the thought of him lurking in the shadows.

 

Someone mentioned my remarking on Shanti's peppiness only to say that her peppiness doesnt really mean anything. I've explained this but will again. I had forgot that she actually did come in that way last game. What I remembered from that game initially was the later play where she came in with good content but wasn't generally present a lot. After that game she expressed a wish to get a scum role. So from that POV her coming in really peppy stood out. Then it was pointed out that she was peppy D1 of that game as well and after I went and checked realized it was true. And her peppiness this game didn't mean so much. I would like to hear from her today.

 

I like Cass's questioning everything, it stands out as very town due to her actions in recent games. I'm not sure I've played with her as scum though (could be wrong just don't recall) so I'd like to hear from someone that has seen her scum play.

 

Shad's play seems a lot like those of other town players that take the lead and try to poke everyone. I'm weary of that kind of play becauae it would be so easy for scum to assume that role and lead us in the wrong direction.

 

Adella is consistent in her last town game play where she seemed pretty busy with rl so I'm gonna give her the benefit of the doubt.

 

BFG's play has seemed alright up to this point, liking some of the content just wish there were more.

 

LZM I'm kinda null on atm

Dunno if I've left anyone out and I know it's very noncommittal but that's where everyone is standing in my head atm.

Hmm, interesting that everyone is reading me on floaty when. I've done a light read across the board and have committed to a vote, which not many other people have. I understand I haven't posted much, but getting "floaty" out of that is very odd and seem reaching to me. Or maybe I have more in my brain than I have put in thread, but it's not a conscious thing.

 

I last minute decided to just re-read thread instead of iso-ing everyone again...but I do believe once I'm finished I will ISO you to see how I feel up to this point because a few things did come to my attention in my re-read, but I want to focus on one thing at a time.

Alf's been absent for so long at this point I'm not sure I'd put any stock into that.

Trying to figure out what both of you are saying - do you think alf is town or scum?

 

 

I think there's a decent chance he's scum.

 

It's not like that's a read I can develop further because he's not here.

 

He was excited to play and then didn't play.  Way more people dislike being scum than don't and I've seen multiple other strangers peace out shortly after reading a scum role pm.  There's less of a guilt compulsion to stick it out for your team when no one knows who you are anyway.

 

Or he could just be busy.  /shrug  The immediate shift in his interest level and his subsequent disappearance is all I have to work with.

 

@BFG generic apathy about being lynched doesn't really count if the player doesn't care about the game in general.  Thoughts on that?
