D2 FRESH TAKES:

 

Welcome to the Zander & ed Show. 

 

I reread with the focus of spotting relationships between players and spotlighting what they are actually contributing.

 

Zander:

 

He spent a lot of N1 talking about Tigs. He gave me the impression she was his #1 pick for scum and he said she needed to die ASAP.

 

He picks up on that at the start of D2, but then he starts to spread out, taking the focus off of her instead of iso'ing or casing her.

 

His approach this game is what I call a hit-n-run, which can be towny in appearance, but is rooted in making accusations instead of information-gathering. 

 

He blows off criticism of his play - the whole LD thing, his constant request for lists, reads and hyper awareness of people when they are off the thread. 

 

He's also not listening to people when they do talk to him - he is not accepting of other's opinions. He just refutes them.

 

But, he will cherry pick things that boost his townie cred and agree with them.

 

I need to just go ahead and say that Sooh can't get a word in without him jumping all over her answers - this is not game solving - this is what I would do if there was a player I really, really didn't want talking on the thread.

 

I am very interested in Sooh having 5 minutes to explain how she is seeing the game without having to worry that Zander is just going neg-bomb her.

 

All in all, I don't find his play to be town oriented. He's active and he appears to be stimulating conversation, But he's not fostering it.

 

In regard to relationships...

 

Zander has mentioned ed as a top scum choice. But since the start of D2, both of their games have modified to play off of one another. All casing of ed seems to have stopped in favor of working together to push narratives.

 

ed:

 

ed spent D1 the way he did. It's been discussed and he wound up on a lot of scum lists for it. 

 

I called him out for over-focusing on me. I figured it was because we've spent the last couple of games going back and forth. I made a point to not focus on him this game to keep my perspective clear. 

 

So far today, he's come back into the game correcting one part of his play that people called him out on - his participation is higher. 

 

But, on reread, he is laser focused on me. I'm named in what has to be over half of his posts. He hasn't focussed on anyone else like that at all.

 

I made a "dogwhistle" post to this effect before I reread, and after rereading it's pretty blatant.

 

This is not game solving - he finally turned in a reads list and once again, it's very light on commitment except for me.

 

On iso, he's got some ringers, but I want to get other's opinions before posting a case.

 

I have Zander and ed working together, not game solving, but pushing narratives. 

 

Lenlo:

 

I reread his stuff and he is still on my scum list. I've already called out some of his posts. I am admittedly not a fan of the "I don't bother to read the rules" play style.  His posts strike me as flailing more than anything else.

 

He is also stand-offish, very much like Adam was. 

 

But, he is very supportive of Zander, so add another string to the relationship map there.

 

His comment about moving his vote to make Zander happy was really bad, imo. 

 

So I have Lenlo ----- Zander ------ ed

 

Tigs:

 

I think I can sum her play up as just plain awkward. She's similar to Killa in that they just stand out as scum, but for different reasons.

 

Tigs does the no-show and then the apologetic catch-up that I'm not a big fan of. I don't like the "style" or timing of what I've seen from her, but one thing I don't see is a connection with another player. That and Zander pulling off her case have given me pause to consider her play.

 

​It gets townier from here.

 

Killa: 

 

Brash play followed by apologies. Logic that does not jive with mine. Her posts seem timed to answer accusations more than just provide game content.

 

But, I don't see a strong connection between her and anyone else yet. She and ed talk about each other, but that's normal for folks. 

 

What will turn this account around for me is if she comes off of defense and starts to really game solve. 

 

 

Sooh:

 

Straight up, she seems hesitant. But, after being continuously harassed by Zander, I can see why.

 

As I said before, I would like to hear her thoughts without Zander interrupting or pulling her off what she wants to discuss.

 

Seph: 

 

I've agreed with the majority of his logic so far and am used to his style of thinking now. This doesn't guarantee he's town, but I would need to see a big shift in his reasoning before I took my eye off the people above.

 

dice: 

 

I still don't have a problem with his play. He's making logical observations and is being careful. He says as much. I think that's a pretty good approach for this game. 

 

Nyn: 

 

She's getting some of the Zander treatment (Nyn, Zander is really looking forward to your reads!).

 

She's made some decent observations. She's said she's working a lot. I don't have her tied to anyone else. 

 

I know her, so I'm pretty confident in my ability to spot her frustration over her being nervous and she strikes me as put out over her schedule and not wanting to get called out by Zander over it. 

 

Niniel:

 

I've looked at her play a couple of times, and with her reveal, I don't see her as being scum. I liked the idea behind her effort.

One more thing. I feel that Lenlo´s vote on Adam was another "safe" vote after voting TLM. Now he wrote some posts that I thought looked good so I will focus on him when I re-read. Tied to that is DPR. Ed is right about the last game. DPR was mafia with me and he chose a few things to focus on so to look busy and steer the conversation like he wanted. Maybe he is doing it with Lenlo and the TLM talk? I´ve had a town read on DPR so far but I will look at that too.

Thought about if it was a good idea to share this or not but here I go.

 

I´m a one time tracker and I chose to track The Laughing Man yesterday to see what would happen. He didn´t visit anyone. It´s a bit confusing to me since that give us no clue to what he actually does in this game. Or maybe he is just so good at hiding himself and I couldn´t see him? In that case I just wasted my track but I thought I would give it a chance. Maybe someone has seen something during the night that could confirm this later or get to learn something that I can´t. (I´m not saying that you should reveal anything right away though.)

I like this. Not necessarily the reveal itself, but trying to get info on TLM and the game setup.

@ed I think I can read Zander genuinely well and have not been fooled by him as a wolf or 3p. His town game isn't easy replicated. As a wolf he still has the wim and drive to win but I think for sure he is more player not game focused.

 

I actually liked how he handled you before his explanation thus last post, I feel like he is actively engaging the thread in a good way.

 

If he is a wolf I will be absolutely floored but if he is one I would look at soon as a partner because that's what his scum game can do if he tunnels you lolol. Sorry soon

DPR, there's really no need to OMGUS attack everyone who points a finger at you.

 

I can't speak to Zander's reversal on me. Maybe he actually read my posts?

 

There's a reason I started mentioning you, though. You're an enigma, wrapped inside of a burrito, encased in Cuendillar, surrounded by a pack of armadillos. A lot of people look at you and try to resolve your slot; I'm doing it the best way I know. Poke the anthill and see what happens. Who runs to and who runs away?

Who will comment further on you and Lenlo? Who will come to defend you? Etc

 

That being said, that was classic Ed trying to play his old school ways and that's not the way to resolve slots or games anymore. *sigh*

 

I honestly expected more reaction from Zander.

 

Also, my read's list is hardly light on commitment. Except, you can move yourself up to between Nini and Killa. Would have been higher, but your constant drive to attack people focused on you always pings scummy.

everything ive said is true and im not threatening people im straight telling them how i feel.

 

im saying there are certain people who are pushing me in the way that they are if Scum dont need to worry about me doing it anymore anywhere.  these people know and ive talked at length with them about people who get me to the point where i want to stop playing mafia because i feel like im ruining the game for them. i play the game to the best of my abilities and i try at least as hard as anyone else when i play and i love playing the game.  its these certain people because of the fact i do interact with them quite a bit outside of the game and dm in general and know how i feel about them and how i feel about being attacked that way.

 

theres certainly a difference because some people I dont care what they think of me but theres a few i actually call and consider to be friends who I do care what they think of me.

 

and i dont care if anyone finds the 2nd line insulting, id say you calling people dumb is much more insulting.  it just means that i truly in my heart value what my friends think of me while others who i just play the game with i dont really.

 

like would you be more insulted if a family member or friend bad mouthed or tried to make you feel bad or the guy who deliveries your pizza does if you dont tip him?

Okay, that's good to note. I've seen him aggressive in games in an inquisitive way, but everyone constantly says that's Town Zandy. One day, when he's scum, I wanna be able to nail him.

 

I'll keep watching him, but I've got him as Town for now.

i have had instances and i wont mention any names where a person who was actually Scum said because i was pushing them that they were quitting playing mafia for good because i was pushing them

 

theres a dif when theyre town because even tho getting pushed is what is supposed to happen in every game, as Town at least the frustration is legit.  comments like that border on or if not are outside the spirit of the game when theyre Scum imo.  maybe its not to others but each individual as their own values/opinions/views on this type of stuff and people may not agree but its what i believe. 

 

in another game a Scum was using at least what I and after game a few others considered and called out AtE about their kids keeping them busy in rl and threw a fit when people were sussing them for it and made im gonna quit/sub out/stop playing if they didnt so people unvoted them and that person won the game.

 

i legit felt like a PoS and considered not only subbing out of those games but to stop playing all together when that happened till i seen they were both Scum.

 

and there were others as well but those prolly the 2 most notable ones i remembered.

everything ive said is true and im not threatening people im straight telling them how i feel.

 

im saying there are certain people who are pushing me in the way that they are if Scum dont need to worry about me doing it anymore anywhere.  these people know and ive talked at length with them about people who get me to the point where i want to stop playing mafia because i feel like im ruining the game for them. i play the game to the best of my abilities and i try at least as hard as anyone else when i play and i love playing the game.  its these certain people because of the fact i do interact with them quite a bit outside of the game and dm in general and know how i feel about them and how i feel about being attacked that way.

 

theres certainly a difference because some people I dont care what they think of me but theres a few i actually call and consider to be friends who I do care what they think of me.

 

and i dont care if anyone finds the 2nd line insulting, id say you calling people dumb is much more insulting.  it just means that i truly in my heart value what my friends think of me while others who i just play the game with i dont really.

 

like would you be more insulted if a family member or friend bad mouthed or tried to make you feel bad or the guy who deliveries your pizza does if you dont tip him?

Just my opinion, but I don't think it's healthy for anyone to take anything inside the games outside the games. This goes for friendships, rivalries and everything else.

 

A large part of the game has to do with deception and manipulation. That's understood when we all sign up.

 

If a person holds grudges or takes things personally, it defeats the purpose of it being a game.

 

I think it's fair and reasonable for a player to say when things drift into their personal zone, and to ask others not to tread there. Keeps things game oriented.

 

I'm not interested in ever hurting anyone's feelings for real - I want the game to be fun and everyone to come back and play the next one.

i have had instances and i wont mention any names where a person who was actually Scum said because i was pushing them that they were quitting playing mafia for good because i was pushing them

 

theres a dif when theyre town because even tho getting pushed is what is supposed to happen in every game, as Town at least the frustration is legit.  comments like that border on or if not are outside the spirit of the game when theyre Scum imo.  maybe its not to others but each individual as their own values/opinions/views on this type of stuff and people may not agree but its what i believe. 

 

in another game a Scum was using at least what I and after game a few others considered and called out AtE about their kids keeping them busy in rl and threw a fit when people were sussing them for it and made im gonna quit/sub out/stop playing if they didnt so people unvoted them and that person won the game.

 

i legit felt like a PoS and considered not only subbing out of those games but to stop playing all together when that happened till i seen they were both Scum.

 

and there were others as well but those prolly the 2 most notable ones i remembered.

That's always the risk when rl gets mixed in with play.

 

That's why everyone has to agree that the game is just the game, and not bring any rl stuff in unless they really do need latitude - I was in a game when my wife went into labor, so I had to focus on what was important then, you know? So I said to her, "Love, I'm in the middle of a game but I'll call you an ambulance and then Imma be right behind you as soon as I finish this post!" 

 

There has to be an unwritten rule that folks will be cool when it's needed. Otherwise, let it ride.

Zander, it´s not possible to understand someone´s "voice" when writing but I writing this not in anger or anything like that. 

 

First, I am sorry that you are having problems with your health. I hope it will be better as soon as possible. I am happy that you still remember stuff anyway, but that´s not the case for me. My health problems include bad working memory and there is nothing I can do about it. 

 

I´m not calling your or anyone else dumb and you will never see me do so. I think you are doing your best, as town or mafia. But if you are town, which I think you are, I don´t think some of your game works so well. You can´t assume stuff and then go on and on about it if your assumptions are wrong. 

 

About DPR - I don´t think it´s vote worthy that he forgot that he had a pic in his post. I understand his explanation. But he has sort of limited his own future claims with that explanation so that is something to keep in mind. 

 

 

You say that people comment a lot on your play, well they do about mine too, and probably a lot of other´s. In my case it´s because I´m usually not very active. My activity is decided by stuff in rl. I have said in like every game that I play that activity is not based on my alignment. It is what it is. That is why I understand when people have rl things that prevents them for playing. It only means that they can´t play at the moment, not that we can know their alignments. Then I guess there could be people lying about rl but I don´t think many would do that here. Not the ones I usually play with anyway. 

 

I have only talked about the game and your play. I have not talked about your person in any way, and if it looks like that then maybe I wrote it wrong? (Language you know.)

I agree but theres also the "in the spirit of the game" rule and when that line gets crossed and or blurred.then it becomes a different story.

like when i play on JN i expect pretty much no holds barred and people can and say whatever they want about people and cuss them and make certain types of slurs and the such that in todays society if was said in public it would be all over the news pretty much for bigotry, racism homophobic. etc.  but thats the culture of game play there and those who play there arent people who get offended easy or at least know what they're getting into and know what to expect if they do sign up.

 

And unfortunately with the culture of DM things being taken out of the game is common place in part because of friendships that are built outside of the game and the culture of the site like what i mentioned above about the JN culture DM has its own and when you say something you need to own up to and again theres the spirit of the game and when you know people well attacking them with stuff that you know bothers them in rl is not right imo.  id never want to win a game like that and ive only met one person ever who has more WIM then me in Mafia and Id bet my last dollar on shed agree with me on this as this person is like the one of the nicest sweetest people i know.

 

I dont need to talk to you outside the game about things, ive said my piece and everyone who reads my posts can see where i stand on the matter and my beliefs are my beliefs, my views aare my view and nothing anyone is gonna change it.  Maybe that makes me dumb or a bad person or too stubborn etc but it is what it is.
