Egwene's Previous Lives

Is there anyone who sees a pattern that indicates who Egwene may have been in some of her previous lives? Since channeling is soul-related, this apparently means that someone who can channel will always be born into a body that has the right genetics for channeling. Following this logic, one can assume that in every incarnation she was an extremely powerful channeler. Is it just me or does the story of her life eerily parallel that of several past heroine Aes Sedai? Especially the Queen of Manetheren (in the top echelon of channeler strength during her lifetime, married to her royalty husband, Amrylin rival (Elaida) who was jealous of her strength, went berserk in battle when her husband/Warder was killed and drew in so much of the One Power that she killed herself and all of her enemies). Has anyone noticed this?

I loved that little short story but didn't think much more about it after reading it. Recently when I started reading Neuxue's live blog she pointed out the similarities and once she did it became pretty obvious to me.

This has been a complete joy to read for me. I was considering a WoT re-read when I came across this live-blog and I have enjoyed every word of it.

But she didn't draw in so much of the power because her warder died.  She did it out of desperation, the whole flame of tar valon weave is still imo was one of the worst moments in the series.  Also I don't remember Elaida ever being jealous of her because of her power, Elayne and Nyn were also equally powerful.  Since she didn't get married to the very end, I wouldn't really draw a parrel to being married to royalty.

Well, u must remember although the basic format of an Age will never change supposedly there will be slight variations. As far as Elaida is concerned, it is commented on in New Spring that part of Elaida's problem is that far too much of a big deal was made of her strength and the speed at which she learned. She disliked Siuan and Moiraine for same reason. Apparently there hadn't been anyone to match her since Lelaine, and no one period who learned as fast as she did ever, and she couldn't stand there being anyone able to match or outdo her.

But there are huge differences between being jealous of Manetheren and Elaida.  She never tried to destroy Egwene out of jealousy.  Also Nyn and ELayne were also extremely powerful.

I think it's an interesting idea, but for me there are just too many differences to think she is someone reborn.

eldrene was the last queen of manetheren, her husband was king aemon,

it has been suggested(many times) that mat is aemon reborn, following your

logic(i certainly don't share it),one can assume that in their previous incarnation

mat and egwene were married.perish the thought!!!

mat 'i am not a lord' cauthon, was married in his past life to a queen who was

also an aes sedai, and now,he is married to an empress who has the ability

to channel,poor mat.

thom merrilin once said:when the pattern gives you lemons,be a lemonade vendor at rhuidean.

Absolutely. To randomly discover the perfect weave, at the last moment to save the day, with no hint of foreshadowing at all, was simply lazy writing by Brandon Sanderson. He did a fairly decent job over all, but that was just laziness.

But they're all someone else reborn remember?

Yes but only a very small few are reborn to do great stuff again and again.  Chances are next time Egwene's soul will just be a random person and not someone born to do something great.  Just like next time the forsaken will probably be totally different.

Yes but being an extremely powerful channeler, there is a high probability that she's gonna be remembered, even if only by the Aes Sedai. In New Spring Cadsuane says that 1,000 yrs ago Moiraine would've only been in the top 50 or so, but that still put her in the top 5%. So I'm sure they'll remember all of the trio, even if only for their rank in the hierarchy.

Totally agree with Sabio's comment, and Mrs. Cindy Gill nailed it.

All of this is true, but remember that in book 13 when Rand comes to the Tower and approaches the Amrylin Seat, he says, "Hello Egwene...you've played your part well." To me that sounds like Lews Therin recognized Egwene for who she'd been...

True the Wheel of Time isn't about the ranking, but Aes Sedai care a great deal about such things. They make a big deal about the "Supergirls" because of their strength remember? They knew how almost exactly how long it had been since someone with their strength had come to the Tower.

@kesiera sedai,

"hello egwene..you've played your part well"

come on kesiera, you cannot misquote the dragon reborn,he didn't say that

"egwene.you have done your part,i see.the amyrlin's STOLE fits you well."

rand was congratulating egwene on becoming amyrlin, that's all(last time

both of them were together egwene wasn't even an aes sedai),and like mrs.

cindy gill said, rand manipulated their meeting from start to finish,he knew exactly

which buttons to push to get the desired(from his point of view) results.

for someone as ambitious as egwene, becoming amyrlin was achieving her

highest goal in life, and rand knew it of course,so he congratulated her for

achieving the amyrlin seat.

sure, rand manipulated the whole meeting, but he was very polite about it lol.
