  3. WELCOME TRAVELLER! A New Beginnings is set in an Alternate Universe and is not associated with the characters from the books. This, of course, means that we don't allow references to or recreations of those characters. There will be no canon characters from the books allowed in the game - largely to build our own story towards the Final Battle with our characters as starring roles instead of the book characters. We have a Modified Timeline(see History). You should use this as a point of reference, rather than relying on the knowledge taken exclusively from the books. Just check over to the side and you'll find a handy link to tag you right over to it. If you aren't sure or just want to check, please do ask the STAFF who are always more than happy to help out and provide any further information you may need to explain fully. As a whole we consider ourselves to be a creative, enthusiastic, and very dedicated group of roleplayers committed to character development and storytelling, with a side of world-building thrown in for good measure for those who might be interested. Other Staff Positions: TBD RULES All Members of Dragonmount are required to Read and Abide by our Code of Conduct. Our Community Rating is 13+ so all stories within must adhere to PG-13 content, however, if you are unsure about the content you are welcome to connect with staff and ask about exceptions or alternatives. Mature Content, at the very least, must be hidden or have [ M ] listed in the title of the thread to denote its contents. Additional triggers should also be listed at the beginning of a thread and/or post for more sensitive readers/players. Characters from the books or shows are not allowed. All characters must be your creations. All roleplay is conducted in the third-person point-of-view. Please look this up if you do not know the difference between first-person and third-person POV. (WoT, LotR, and Harry Potter are all examples of books written in the third person perspective). We are ONLY accepting NEW characters into New Beginnings. EXCEPTION: The older RP, also known as the Legacy RP, has an ongoing story that has been RPed for over 20 years and we welcome back older characters. However, we are not organizing roles or anything that plays into a Main Storyline. Consider this the "sunset" aspect of the Legacy RP, closing out old stories or transitioning to the new. Please do make sure that if you're part of this group, contact mods here and keep in mind our organization is going to be VERY different than the Legacy RP. SIGN UP: To ensure that you have access to ALL THE THINGS, please post the following below so that I can add you to the Roleplay Usergroup and all those areas you see will open up for posting! I, (your name) have read the above and rules, and would like to join the Roleplay! Yes/No to the Legacy Group access, please. 5. Talent/Affinity Registration PM RP Staff to be added to this list. -placeholder-
  6. One Power Registration PM RP Staff to be added to this list. As stated before, our One Power scale is a derivative of Robert Jordan’s 66 Strength Scale. At this time we are not allowing a Strength higher than 16 for women and 13 for men. Special rolls may be gifted that shift the scale up to 12-30. A basic breakdown is as follows. Legend +/-, Max, Minimum - These symbolize ranking within their strength. It is a negligible amount but will determine the difference between Aes Sedai of the same rank. (BC) - Book Character Reference Scale ++1 (top level for men) (Rand al’Thor) ++2 - ++6 - (Various Chosen) 1 - (top level for women) (Lanfear) 2 - (Mesaana) 3 - (Nynaeve ti al’Maera Mandragoran) 4 - (Moghedien, Someryn) 5 - 6 - 7 - (Cadsuane Melaidhrin) 8 - (Egwene al’Vere) 9 - 10 - 11 - (Aviendha) 12 - 13 - (Elaida a’Roihan, Moiraine Damodred) 14 - (Pevara Tazanovni) 15 - (Anaiya Carel) ---Level above which can make a larger gateway--- 16 - (Amys, Adelorna Bastine) 17 - (Verin Mathwin) 18 - Calia Luin (max) 19 - (Gitara Moroso) 20 - 21 - (Tsutama Rath) 22 - (Merilille Ceandevwin) ---Level above which can make a useful gateway--- 23 - (Takima Deraighdin) 24 - 25 - (Javindhra Doraille) 26 - 27 - Thayetta Luin (-) 28 - (Hattori Gatano) 29 - 30 - ---Level below which cannot make any gateway at all--- 31 - 32 - 33 - (Annoura Larisen) 34 - 35 - 36 - Josanda Avriny (min) 37 - 38 - (Reiko Kerevon) 39 - 40 - 41 - (Eldase Takashi) 42 - 44 - 45 - ---Level below which was not allowed to test for Aes Sedai--- 46 - 47 - 48 - 49 - (Keraille Surtovni) 50 - (Merin Hannifor) ---Level below which was not allowed to test for Accepted--- 54 - (Setsuko) 57 - (Sorilea) 60 - 66 - (Morgase) Not sure what to pick? Discord has a dice Bot that lets you pick and choose your One Power. (Wait, you can pick? YES, yes you can.) Just post the following in the #roleplay discord room! /r command: rpopscore - Rolls a random number between 16-45 /r command: opstrength - Rolls a random strength deviation (min, max, none, - or +.) /r command: 1d[#..#] - Rolls a random number, using # as the scale. Be sure to replace the #'s with your desired scale! As it is too easy to 'roll for the highest', you can only roll a max of 3 times for a score, 2 times for strength. If you know what you want, just choose, don't spam the discord room. There are no limitations on this at this time, so long as it remains honorable and nor abused.
  7. This is a UNIVERSAL system and applies to ALL groups. THE ONE POWER Unlike most magic systems, a character’s strength in the One Power is stationary. Access to the full potential of a character's strength can be broken down by their skill and rank (EI. A novice is unlikely to have full understanding and fortitude to access all of their potential strength in comparison to a full-ranked Aes Sedai.) In this regard, there is no way of gaining more One Power strength outside of using an Object of Power. One Power is assigned on a 66 Strength Chart initially created by Rober Jordan himself. At this time Women are broken down between the lowest possible score capable of gaining the Shawl and the strongest being able to make usable Gateways. Men are given an even larger range of being incredibly weak but able to gain madness, to able to overpower a strong Aes Sedai through sheer force or power. The Purpose of allowing men a larger range is two-fold. One, this reflects the unchecked imbalance that the Taint had on men within the books. Two, to create a more dynamic storyline, it changes the power balance between Aes Sedai and Asha'man with what can be defined as Strength and Skill. Because deference within the White Tower is dependent on a woman’s strength, it is concluded that to have a skill score is unnecessary, but instead, a -/+ indicator will be used to specify any necessary deference within a single Strength Rank. The same will also apply to Asha'men. Stronger Aes Sedai may be petitioned on a Staff-Approval basis at the time of Character Creation, at which point the scale of the roll will be adjusted accordingly. How Channeling Works The "magic" system that is the One Power in The Wheel of Time works very uniquely, with certain rules in place. This post will be a list of rules for channeling, how the One Power works physically, and what can and cannot be done with the Power. The One Power, which comes from the True Source that turns the Wheel of Time, is composed of five elements: Air, Earth, Fire, Spirit, and Water. These are called the Five Powers. Wielding the One Power to create effects is referred to as weaving these powers into flows, which together make up any one particular weave. A weave is what Aes Sedai wants to do to create a desired effect. Embracing Saidar Learning to embrace saidar takes training. Wilders might unconsciously touch the One Power, but in general, they do not know what they are doing, and often develop blocks, which do not allow them to touch the Source at all. Female channelers can tell when other women are touching the Source; a white glowing aura appears around their body, only visible to those trained to touch saidar. The ability can also be sensed in any woman capable of channeling, whether they are wilders or Aes Sedai. When a female channeler embraces saidar, a soft, white glow of surrounds them. This glow can only be seen by other women who know how to channel and have done so a few times on their own. Seizing Saidin Saidin is described as a raging torrent, just as powerful as saidar but tempestuous: a raw, untamed force that must be "coerced" through strength of will or else it will overwhelm you. In contrast to saidar, a man must make saidin submit to him in order to access it: a process known as seizing the Power. Weaving for a male channeler involves wielding it much like a weapon and directing it to do his bidding. Learning to seize saidin takes training. Wilders might unconsciously touch the One Power, but in general they do not know what they are doing, and often develop blocks, which do not allow them to touch the Source at all. Additional Notes: (As written by Jagen Sedai) Linking The ability of channelers to combine their flows of the One Power in a circle. While the combined flow is not as great as the total of the individual flows, it is directed by the person who leads the link and can be used much more precisely and to far greater effect than the individual flows can be. Caveats and Impossibilities There are some things channelers cannot do, as well as caveats to channeling. Strength is not always a factor in what one can do; for example, women can make bridges with Air further than a man stronger than her in the Power. The simple act of picking something up is one of the hardest things in channeling, but a strong channeler can lift at least three times her own weight. One cannot lift themselves with the One Power, but can lift others, though it takes much strength and skill to do so. One cannot Heal themselves. Men and women cannot see each other channeling, so one could never learn a weave from another. Channelers cannot close their eyes while channeling as they must see the flows, but once a weave is completed it is possible to look away from it and still hold it. A weave is learned by watching other channelers make it; seeing a weave only after it has been completed does nothing for learning it.
  8. I'm keen on the idea of setting us in the Vlieness timeline, just to establish who's playing, toss a war in the south, and have people in the north have a few prophecies and see where they go. Then in about 2-3 years, we jump ahead into the book timeline-ish or have another talk about storylines.
  9. One thing that we were missing was a Direction. A Goal. A plotline. This is where I want to have conversations with ALL players and really get us up and running with something we want to play. Moreso, I don't want to get suck on a single storyline either where we feel forced to make what happened in the books happen in the stories we tell with each other.
  10. character approval process A simple breakdown on how the approval process/this thread works! Start a Thread with the appropriate Thread Title & paste your choice of biography templates. You have 2-weeks to complete your biography. Notice will be posted when you have hit this time and if there is no reply it will be moved to the archives. When you are satisfied that you have filled everything out and gone through it for any SPELLING and GRAMMAR edits, along with double-checking that they follow the rules, then your application is complete! Post below with the form below, and a Staff Member will come by and read it. PLEASE give staff a MINIMUM of 3 Days to get to your Biography before sending a PM asking if we have seen it. The more you pester, the less likely we will get to it any quicker. A post will be made by a member staff as to whether additional actions need to be made. When it is all done, your biography will be moved to our Approved Biography section and you are free to play! When your application is complete and ready for review, please reply to this thread with this form: Character Name: Biography Link: Group: Special Requests: (Or things we should be aware of..)
  11. Approved! Go forth & play! @Wayfarer Please post in the Member Directory - And for Weapon Score Registry - (at least for now)
  12. Ah! forgot.. XD *adds to her subscribed list XD* 1. Are they female? No 2. Are they a human? No
  13. character creation A character concept (commonly known as a biography) is basically a character sheet that lays out certain key details about your character. It's like the foundation on which you can build your roleplay. Your character concept can be as long or short as you like. Some people like to flesh their characters out more during the roleplays, and as long as you have a good base to start from, that is perfectly fine. Note that you are encouraged to read other characters' biographies before RPing with them, but your character cannot know information that has not been revealed to him/her. For example, even though you as the writer know that a certain character is from Illian and was raised by an innkeeper who was not his biological parent, your character does not know that until he or she is told, though may guess by the Illiander accent where he or she is from. Any tips on writing a good bio? Some general tips that are common to all groups: I. Your character should be from a continent in the known world. II. Don't include the main plot characters such as Rand, Egwene, or other Main Characters of other Books. It has been verbally expressed by the Jordan Estate not to use the characters whose story is already written. We intend to honor this and will not approve any character account that expresses name relevance or connection. Note that we do have a few Chosen characters from the books (Moridin, Graendal, Semirhage, and Demandred) available for play. Their names will likely change upon formal creation. III. Unless you have played your character for a very long time already, you shouldn't be the 'greatest Channeler' or some other particularly 'well-established' character without the Staff's permission. IV. Avoid Items of Power. These are better earned "in play", and are highly unlikely to be approved without a good reason or story-driving plot at a character's start. V. Please know that some nationalities' physical attributes are limited by their race; for example, Atha'an Miere is all dark skin with black hair ("darker than Tairens") while Aiel all have either red, blonde, or dirty blonde hair and blue, green or gray eyes, and are taller than other people in the world, Cairheinins are short and pale, etc. This information will also be included in our geography section. a. Characters who have parents from two different countries and therefore come from two different cultures are welcome, within the "realistic" confines of the WoT universe, and your physical appearance can reflect this. b. Characters from Shara are not allowed. c. Seanchan characters must be in Seanchan until the Forerunners arrive. d. Sea Folk characters who leave their ships lose the rights to all earned ranks and are treated more lowly than deckhands by their people as a result. e. Children of the Light can come from any country in the Westlands, as can Aes Sedai and Warders. Sea Folk Aes Sedai will be extremely limited due to being so rare. Aiel cannot become Aes Sedai and non-Aiel cannot become Wise Ones. Non-Sea Folk cannot join Sea Folk ships in any capacity. how to apply There are 2 different Biography Templates available, Basic & Expanded, that you can fill out. You will have TWO WEEKS to complete your application. Biographies that are older than two weeks will be archived. If you wish to still complete your application, reach out to a member of the RP Staff to have it moved back into the Registry. Once your profile application is completed, you are welcome to let us know in the READY FOR REVIEW thread. Please try and give us at least 48 hours to review your application before reminding us. There are some parts of the application that come under the MANDATORY section, but the primary one is TRIGGER WARNINGS, which should be filled out for anyone reading the biography. While we do not allow expressed adult themes in detail, even illusory references can be subject to issues for other players. Above all, we encourage and support communication between our members. final note All Biographies should be titled with the following format: LAST NAME, FIRST NAME - GROUP (TITLE) We do not allow the same last names of characters unless part of a family. Nor should you have the name of a book character, unless the character is yours through Brandon Sanderson’s time as a writer. Groups include Commoner, Nobility, Darkfriend, Channeler, Wolfkin, and Children of the Light. If part of multiple groups, please list the primary, and include the second group with the Title. As an Example: Tarou, Arie - Channeler (White Ajah Aes Sedai, Darkfriend). the application - basic There is no change to the template from what had previously been available. We're also talking about those skills that they are exceptionally good at, or good at being bad at. Whether it's a talent for making the perfect pie, intricate embroidery, or simply a unique talent of being completely incapable to using a bow safely, feel free to explore.] Weaknesses: [Balance, with all good things must come weaknesses. Be it ankles, prejudges, or unable to be mentally stable in a small box, something has to keep them from being able to achieve what they want in the next thread at the snap of their fingers.] + Traits: [Postive Traits! Bullet form or paragraphs is fine. Any listed types of traits can easily be things they are or are not aware of.] - Traits: [Negative Traits! Bullet form or paragraphs is fine.] Character History: [This is when your character was younger and what led them to where they are today. If this is a high-ranked character there should be a minimum of 3 paragraphs that cover their growth, how they achieved their position, and where they are in that position to date. (Ei. If a Queen, how long were they in that role, how have they ruled, and what sort of struggles are they currently facing both as a person and as a Queen. ...etc).] Character Reputation: [This applies to characters who have been in any area for a certain amount of time, ranging from between a month to many years. This can be in bullet form or paragraphs.] and then?? If you already have an approved bio within the "New Beginning" area, there is no need to edit unless you absolutely want to. Biographies are the introduction to Roleplay, and what grows from there will be in development. You are always welcome to go back and edit your character using the above process, but we strongly encourage you to try out our development section and share wanted characters in the wanted and requests for further plotting fun! Aren't we supposed to start at the beginning? What if I am a novice? How do I get Raised? I am sure there are a lot of questions as this is the first time in our RP history that we will NOT require players to start at the bottom of the totem pole. While you CAN be a Novice, or a Trainee, the idea is to let people PLAY and not just level up characters. Start where you are comfortable. If you know what an Aes Sedai is and are inspired to play one, then play one! If you're still unsure, don't get lost in the details, and reach out to staff! More information on what comes next will be forthcoming in the next few days. (And I'll edit this area with that information, too.) MODIFIED 2.4.24 - Added One Power Item rule
  14. Firstly, please send some love and thanks to Kathleen & Jagen for all their incredible work in the Roleplay these past few years. Taking on the beast of the RP in addition to navigating the transfer to the clubs and then the return back to the forums, they really worked hard to keep as much as they could while working with a lot of limitations in the process. So thank you to both of you for all that work and care and know that it was very deeply appreciated. It was announced earlier in Staff today that Kathleen has chosen to step down, and Jagen has been too busy with life to confirm a role moving forward. With the support of Cass I tossed my hat in the ring and SinisterDeath (and Kathy) have agreed to allow me full control of the Roleplay. (Insert all the screaming here?) Currently, the Roleplay/Game staff consists of myself and Cass. If you are interested in helping out for a role, or with any staff needs, please reach out to me and include some of your ideas along with why you feel you would be a good fit for our small team. I may not take on many people to start because we don’t need much to get the ball running on the back side of things, I will keep a running tally that when the need arises I know who I can reach out to based on the ideas you share. I’m a big advocate of encouraging other people’s ideas, so you can certainly try. I will also be posting a few polls for those active or interested in becoming active in the RP. This will include potential timelines, story structures, and general chaos. Please keep an eye out as those will certainly impact how we move forward. We are trying something - very - new, having given the previous structure a year to see how it would work after shifting away from the club structure. We are moving away from the minimal and adding a few new forums for information, and giving information a clean-up. No Information is being deleted at this time. I’m a vehemently obsessive archivist when it comes to writing. Information in the short term may not be accessible while we organize it into readable chunks or move it into its appropriate archive, but it will return for your viewing or reference pleasure later. Finally, ALL titled roles are open and available. For those interested in high-ranking roles (like Head of Ajah, Amyrlin, Queens, M’Hael, etc), please shoot me a PM first. I don’t want to have 3-4 biographies posted simultaneously and be forced to sort through that mess without a plan fair for all players. I only ask for a little patience in the coming week or two while we move things about and Cass and I work out some kinks in what we hope to build with you. In the Light-ish, Arie
  15. Hell @Sebastian!! That tea pot is very cool, and i can totally see it in the M’Hael’s office. 😄
  16. I think it might boil down more to not the 'idea' but the 'doing'. 🙂 I'm cool so long as I don't have to be in charge of it as a whole? XD
  17. Welcome Eben!! 😄 New people and all the fun things, please, go explore! We're more than just a book/tv discussion but a full-blown community! Poke about and see what you can find!
  18. There is a strange therapy in sadness. I have spent more time encouraging people to live their lives than to try and include myself with them. I miss my warders. I miss a lot of people, many of whom live very, very far away from me. Many I have shared drinks with, and others I have not even given a hug to. But the one blessing I have to say about ADHD, is while I miss them a lot, when I get to see them or talk to them again all the love and care I have for that person rushes back and it's like they were never gone. Perhaps that is why I keep returning to places with many strong memories and/or emotions, like here, despite the negative memories and the painful reminders that also come along with that ADHD trait.
  19. I think... the BTas would have better luck in the RP than in the ORGs, primarily because so many of us are already -everywhere- there's not much to stand out aside from its general theme. 😕 In truth, I'm inclined to feel that there is more value in letting go of the old and putting effort into something new, or something active.
  20. Arie, Asha'man, Shadow. I'm about, but in no way in 'charge' here. XD I do have access to all the things tho.. *points to moderator badge* *waves*
  21. I find your solution... tolerable.... Allow me a moment to consider.... Okay, I got one! Feel free to start over!
