Siuan was accused and convicted, but with only the most base air of legitimacy... hence my statements from earlier about how none of Elaida's actions in ascending to the Seat actually hold up under scrutiny and about why it's not inconceivable that every person who was complicit in Siuan's deposing and bore witness to/was present for her execution is a Darkfriend.

In the books as far as I recall..

    Spoiler

After Egwene was captured she found out that Elaida was raised by the minimum amount of Sitters and several of the sitters were darkfriends and therefore their votes wouldn't count. Elaida had no right to be the Amyrlin.

Seems like the show has already planted the seeds for that.

  2. The episode was nearly perfect. I really can't think of any real negatives.

    - The battle had scale, death, surprising twists and a logical outcome with Perrin and Fain. I like that Alanna didn't just save everyone.

    - I'm not 100% sure that Loial is dead. I kinda hope he is so the moment with his book and his voice-over after don't go to waste.

    - Aram's arc evolving naturally.

    - Faile! Perrin!

    - Taim and Abel were missing for some reason. Maybe they'll help Perrin?

    - Fade(s) would have been a nice touch.

    - Daise went out like a legend.

    - Valda got a fitting end. Bloodthirsty S.O.B.

    Can't wait for the Finale.

  3. Cauthon girls healing Alanna so easily was my only complaint in this episode. I give it a pass though, since our heroes always managed to create needed weaves pretty much every single time even if they had no training or never made them before.

The show does need to stop giving our heroes mortal wounds in every episode and heal them immediately. It's getting a bit tiring.

I almost wish Rand had done the marionette thingy with the girl's corpse. What we got was plenty enough. Well done.

I’m pretty sure the COVID issues hadn’t hit yet when the Logain episode was shot.

I did a quick check and apparently covid restrictions hit after E4 was filmed. I'm not sure if CGI suffered for that episode also.

This must be stressed out. Time is a huge issue, and a lot of cool stuff has to be sacrificed for it.

If we get 8 season for 14 books + new spring, that's almost 2 books per season. At 800 pages per book, an episode must adapt 200 pages. Rhuidean was what, 50 pages in the books? Something like that? And they had to spend a full episode on it. And they still had to cut half the visions.

And this is why the "just do the books" is such a pointless argument. It's just not possible within time and budget.

Can somebody explain 3/4 of Rand's story this episode, please? Because I have absolutely no idea what was going on.

    In short

    Spoiler

    1. Aiel as we know them now are warrior culture. The Rhuidean visions show that they were originally Tuatha'an, the pacifist culture. Only the Clan Chiefs and Wise Ones know the truth. Other aiel don't.

    2. We saw the first Tuatha'an take a spear and kill. We also saw how he had to hide his face after that -> current-time-aiel pull up the (black) veil before killing.

    3. We saw Mierin (Lanfear) create the Bore to Dark One's prison freeing him partly. This eventually leads to the Breaking of the World.

    4.  the only thing that kind of annoyed me was Aviendha going to Rhuidean so early.  This means we won't get the excellent book scene of Aviendha  finally stepping up and acknowleding herself as a Wise One.  this also means no Nakomi.

    Spoiler

Didn't she go in book 4 as well to begin her Wise One training? She went second time in book 13(?) and became a Wise One?

This episode was very very good. The glass columns were executed near perfectly. I wanted to see more of the Bore and Breaking but I'm sure that will happen later in this season or in future seasons.

Yes, I saw it as they were going more for a throuple (fourple?), as opposed to an emperor and his concubines. Plus, from the books, Avi and Elayne were very close. There was some shipping going on in the fanfics.

Rafe has said very early on that they were (paraphrasing) "interested in exploring polyamory instead of polygamy". There's been plenty of time to gird our loins.

I think that the CGI used for the magic battle was very good.

What I can't understand is the end of the battle.  Whether the Black should have won the battle given the numbers is debatable.  But they are the Black.  They had defeated the most powerful women in the Tower and they were all laying on the ground defeated and helpless.  Finish them off quickly with a quick slice of the power?  Nah, let's retreat to the docks so we can fight them again another day.

Retreat was prudent after the battle but at least clean up the low hanging fruit that will only take a millisecond to destroy.

It's book accurate that good guys don't die
