Forgetting about Narg?
Narg smart!

Who is that with Mat? Is that Min? Can I say again that it’s really weird they cast someone in her late 30s to play Min?
I assumed Min. She did have 'experience' before meeting Rand and the gang - so a bit older wouldn't bother me.
Older actors are often cast as younger characters - some more successfully than others.

Someone please give me reasons why Galad and Gawyn are necessary at all.
I mean do we need the Whitecloaks semi-redemption arc ? If not, then why is Galad needed.
Do we need Gawyn at all ? I think if you take him out of the series entirely, there's nothing that is lost.
He literally does nothing of importance.
I like the Whitecloak 'redemption'.

Lol.
Either way it's a book... a story, and Time is valuable. I can think of worse things to waste time on then reading a book in a series that hasn't ended yet.
Not every story has a conclusion, and that's honestly just a part of life. I honestly believe the idea that not starting a series because it isn't finished is foolish. But, that's your time, not mine. 😉
As an anecdote, I was one of four players in a homebrew game of D&D. The DM crafted his own unique world over ~25 years, and he had a story for us.Around the mid-point of our Journey, and just before starting a big clash with the BBEG, our DM unexpectedly died.
The story ended; His family gave us all his D&D stuff; And there wasn't a single note written down. Nothing on the upcoming encounters, no statblocks, no plotlines. Nothing. It was all in his twisted head; his story ended, and new stories began in others.
Time is valuable, spend it wisely...
See what you mean. I'm more frustrated because of the broken promises (self-imposed) on when the book was coming out. He doesn't owe me anything, but do what you say you'll do.
As far as starting a series that isn't finished, never would have crossed my mind not to until GRRM. So this 'rule' only applies to him for me. I'll buy 'Winds' when it comes out - I already have the first 5. And then just pray he or a proxy gets book 7 done. Then I can contentedly read the whole series again.
We'll see. Life is what it is.

Entirely subjective, but IMO, it's a Book. Reading it is infinitely more valuable then time wasted in WoW.
Winds of Winter, not World of Warcraft...
Sorry for the confusion.

Not me. What are we at 11/12 years since the last book? Can't see investing more time in the series with a very good chance it won't be completed. I don't mind wasting $30 bucks for WoW on the off chance it all comes together, but time is too valuable...
-
But one thing it was taught me, never again will I ever start a series written by a single
author before the whole series has been finished, especially if that author is old or unwell or if the series looks like it will span more then a trilogy.
For real!! If GRRM ever publishes Winds of Winter, I will purchase it and put it on the shelf unread. Until all 7 books are published, I will not read them again.

For all that some people can quibble - and are quibbling- with the creative choices that Rafe and his entire production team have made and are making, everything that they're doing is purposeful and geared towards making the best possible adaptation of WoT that they can and delivering something that serves both general audiences and the existing WoT fanbase (even though not all of the latter will accept their efforts in that regard).
It is not quibbling to discuss whether or not someone likes or dislikes specific creative choices Rafe and his team have made. People feel how they feel for specific reasons: it was like/unlike the book, the scene was/wasn't necessary, the writing was good/bad, the CGI was great/awful...

How much subtle foreshadowing is there over multiple reads? I would love to pick up on some easter eggs. I know there will be obvious stuff, I am just hoping for some gems that reward the reader!
There are many. One I came across in tGH - Siuan and Moiraine are talking about being found out by the Hall for their meddling with Rand. About the possibility of being Stilled and then being put in the kitchens as punishment. She would be held in the Tower as an example. But who could rally around a pathetic figure that scrubbed pots all day.
This is book two. Remember a similar example from later...?

Thanks! I was honestly shocked that it was an available username, especially after all these years. I am glad no one took it! Sometimes it felt like Jordan was intentionally using it, as an inside joke.
His use of fingering had me laughing as well, but in that case it seemed like he just refused to use any other synonym. Perrin 'fingering his axe" just seemed too perfect, but at some point all the characters are fingering, including sausage fingered Loial!
Rand refusing to deal with things/people, was a constant annoyance to me! He puts talking to the sea folk off forever and can't be bothered to meet with the borderlanders...because he does't know what they are up to...
But letting Taim loose is by far the worst. Hell, Egwene might actually have lived were it not for Rand's ineptitude.
People have flaws - some of Rand's were avoidance/procrastination. The fact that Jordan was able to elicit an emotional response shows how good his writing was. He made us love and hate his characters - what an author is supposed to do.
-
I never thought Mat was pro slavery.
Uncollaring captured damane during a battle makes no sense. Though some would gratefully accept their freedom, many more were broken and would be a danger to all around them. Time enough after the Battle to sort out what to do with them.
-
Rand drove me nuts with his behavior though most of the books. I was especially irritated by Rand's negligence with Mazrim Taim. He gets many warnings about Taim and does nothing. Early on, I actually thought Taim was going to turn out to be a Forsaken in disguise, so I was wrong about that. But Taim ascending to Forsaken status is even worse. Rand allowed him to train the next generation of Dread Lords.
The minute Logain came to Rand with essentially a final warning about Taim, Rand should have done something. Replacing Taim and company with a loyal Logain would have saved so many lives.
I think if the author's intent was solely to create Dread Lords, it could have been executed better.
But I thought prophecy demanded a new crew of Dreadlords at the Last Battle. If Rand had done something about Taim, he would have broken prophecy. Maybe the Pattern prevented him from taking action...
Though I was very frustrated with his lack of addressing the obvious need as well.

Glad you loved it. I'm on my third full re-read since MoL came out. Though many of the early books have been read a dozen times.
Are you that kind of psycho, or do you have broader horizons?

I think what's trying to be conveyed here is that the story itself is actually short, it just takes place over several chapters, which makes it feel more drawn out then it actually is.
Both can be true at the same time. It can be a short story that feels like it is drawn out.
Drawn out over several books. But think I get your point and @Sir_Charrid's
-
My argument however is that if you remove the repetition and put those chapters in linear order the story of the bowl of the winds is clear, concise and moves pretty quickly through the arc.
I think conflating a writing style and saying it makes a part of the story pointless or unnecessary to the whole is a mistake, all the events in the search for the bowl of the winds have impacts later on beyond actually finding the bowl, the bowl acts as the Mcguffin for that part of the wider story, but the story told around it is more important then the actual bowl of the winds. but without the bowl none of that bit of the story would happen. No reason to go to Ebou Dar, no meeting the kin etc.I never said the bowl of the winds was pointless or unnecessary. I said the arc was too long - which you presented evidence in support of...
-
I mean did he,
Yes - see below...
it feels like it
Then it is
but that is largely the disjointed style of writing, jumping from storyline to storyline with long gaps between, and the fact that in those books where they are hunting the bowl RJ was at his most repetitive, insisting on telling the reader again things he had already detailed out the last time he returned there.
You explained perfectly why it was too long. Thank you.

I have read WoT many many times since 1991. In a GQ interview Rafe said he pitched this show as a corrective to all the misogyny in GoT. He wanted to center the female characters. I think this has added an extra layer of difficulty on top of all the reasons it is a tough adaptation. To me Jordan's voice in the series is an old soldiers voice. I think Rafe's perspective from an activist feminist perspective is not a very good choice for a march to apocalyptic war, but that is what Amazon hired him to do. That is the story we are going to get.

Depending on how they structured it, the Sea Folk / Bowl of Winds arc could be accomplished in just one to three episodes. 1 episode to introduce it. 1 episode to look for it. And, 1 episode to find/use it. You don't need to introduce a lot of information about them in order for them to appear and hit their plot points.
The same applies to the kin and a bunch of other things.
Jordan took too long with Bowl of the Winds. Hopefully the show improves on that arc...
-
I doubt they cut Gaul. His arc is too tied into Perrin’s.
I hope not. But wouldn't surprise me...
-
The show is all about “girl power”. So yes, they’ll cut Gaul. But Bain and Chiad were already cast, so no, they’re not cut.

I personally liked the Abel change though they were a bit ham-fisted about it. Mat being a bit of a scoundrel also good. Other changes not so much...
-
Again.
When you have to subtract a ton of locations to save time & money, that allows you to add or change minor things.
You're acting like changing Abel to a drunk is the same as moving Episode 6 from Caemlyn to Tar Valon. You're confusing the spec for the log in your eye.
Dang - going Biblical! Wouldn't have expected that from you.

I’m about to start my 3rd watch. First since right after the show was finished. (Watched as it came out, then binged again afterwards.)
Let us know how it works for you. Do you like it more or less then on 1st and 2nd watch...?
Why not follow the books more closely?

Politics and changes aside - I very much doubt Rafe's abilities. S2 will tell...
