Suspend your disbelief, young padawan.
This movie did not deserve such suspension.

Sci-Fantasy Magic shields that keep air in but lets matter fly out.
How do the bombs even DROP in a ship in Space? Wth wouldn't you.. umm. Launch them with some form of propellant so they move faster than your artificial gravity?!?
Seriously, space bombers like that is the most retarded things I've seen in a movie in a while. To the first part, no shield was shown.
Secondly you're right but I can overlook that. Maybe the bombs are kind of launched when they're dropped idk.

One last thing.
I think I noticed something that no one else in this thread did.
At the very start of the movie Rose's sister is the pilot for one of the bombers that were trying to destroy the Dreadnought. Correct me if I'm wrong but the bay doors open out into space so the bombs can drop onto the ship. How exactly was Rose's sister in that area and not suffocating? She even fell and got knocked out for a bit. She should have been dead BEFORE dropping the bombs. Makes no sense.

Oh I guess I liked that hacker guy.
When he took the deal with the Order and Finn was like "you're wrong about the Resistance" or whatever.
I liked his line. "Maybe." *shrug*
He was just like yeah well I got paid so I'm not bothered about your struggle for control of the Galaxy. Later.
Just made me laugh when I would have otherwise been annoyed because again that whole plot was pointless and stupid.
I mean was it forced so that Finn could have a showdown with Phasma? Was that it?

The problem I had with TLJ is how they introduce all these force powers and offer no understanding to the viewers. They just plop it in the lap and say "deal with it." The average viewer can't make that leap, it's not believable. I'm speaking specifically about Leia Spacewalker and Luke Mindtosser.
What Luke did I am kind of sort of ok with. I imagine it as something that basically killed him. He went overboard and he paid for it. Leia is still human so not only was she on the bridge that exploded and that alone should have killed her or made her unconscious (it did) but she was in space and shouldn't have been able to breathe (she couldn't). It's not so much that she flew to the ship that bothers me as the fact that she should have been dead before she could even do that.
But now every person must ask themselves, "if this was always an option, why in the everloving hell didn't someone do this to the death star or any other ship ever?" If they want to debut it as "new tech" then again, they need to offer an explanation
Maybe only big ships can do it? Yeah I dunno it was kind of dumb to do.
Not a believable character. I don't care how few people are left in the rebellion, if someone acts like this dude then he is either shot, exiled, or put in the brig. Yes he's a great pilot but when someone commits treason they commit treason. And not only that but he keeps making poor decisions that bite everyone in the ass.
I think what you mean to say is that peoples reactions to him are not believable. I believe someone could commit mutiny. I don't believe he's allowed to stay with his rebellion after doing so. He can never be trusted again.
That whole storyline was lame, the moral lesson was...unctuous.
It was made all the more pointless by the fact that they didn't actually save the Resistance fleet. They failed. Twice. It literally just made me annoyed that I was having to sit through them riding camel horse things while being shot at when I wanted to know wtf Rey and Kylo were doing.
Finn offered nothing to the story and should have died long ago. Or been written a helluva lot better. Either one would have been fine with me. I'm not okay with him killing Phasma. She better not be dead.
It's like they hinted at him being force sensitive in TFA and then...dropped that completely. I'm ok with him being a character I guess but I wish there was more...focus? I don't know if he's Rey's love interest or like a buddycop thing with Poe or what. What's his story? Why is he here? He just wants to run away.
As for Phasma I am pretty sure she's confirmed dead but I can't remember for sure.
'm not one who thinks Star Wars needs another strong, iconic villain like Vader or Sidious to make this trilogy great. I don't love that Snoke had a weak back story but it's not something I'm harping on. The same goes for his death.
No no it's not about him not being a strong iconic villain (obviously Kylo is supposed to take center stage) it's that he has no story whatsoever. If they just said he was one of the Emporer's minions and coveted his power or something I would be like oh ok that's where he came from. Or idk say he's mysterious and came from the outer edges of the galaxy sure whatever. But just...nothing? That's so lame and boring.
Well this just makes me sad. Just like how Lucas completely missed on his Anakin character and all the great possibilities, here Johnson (and by extension Abrams) completely miss on what could have been a fresh new take on the series. Instead they just rehash territory already trod by literally every other star wars movie. Lines are never truly blurred and it's just so terribly boring. So so so boring.
I know! At first I was extremely mad about how Luke's character was written and how his entire storyline is basically just f*** the jedi order! Luke really would not have done that and you know why? It's in the story. He claims he went there to die but in reality HE LEFT A FREAKING MAP TO FIND HIM. That is literally what TFA was about. But, you know what? As I watched I calmed down and I was like ok you know we've had Jedi vs Sith since the 70s in movies, books, video games. And it's cool and we can keep doing that. But what if two young upstarts just said f*** it all and went on a rampage against both sides? That could genuinely be interesting. And I got excited for that. The movie kept pushing it and pushing it. Making it seem more and more interesting. Even towards the end you find out Rey is literally a nobody but Kylo says she's important to him. How sweet right? Ok so time to Bonnie and Clyde this shit.
And then...nah.
Total freaking letdown.
I'd rather have a full length feature film about Jar Jar's escapades in the Senate then watch Episode 9 at this point.

Just saw Annihilation last night.
Save your time and/or money.
It had literally one cool scene which it showed in the trailer the rest was literally boring dialogue.
-
Wow what a disappointing movie that was.
Porgs were literally the best thing about it.

Watched this yesterday morning, not a bad shark movie tbh. It's on Netflix.

I liked the first season well enough, and while I intend to marathon season 2 and see if I like it better than week-to-week, I stopped watching for the time being. The Shannara books were some of the first real novels that I read, and they were so dear to me that they show just felt wrong, even considering the whole "take artistic liberties for the show" thing. Still, I'll give it a run through and hope!
Definitely better to marathon than wait week to week.

Sure np

I'll have to dig into season two at some point. I hated the book, as I felt it was a cheap ripoff of tLotR, but I liked Elfstones and Wishsong. I haven't read any of the other Shannara books, but I enjoyed the first two (I assume there are more by now) Magic Kingdom for Sale novels. He's a decent author, his early Tolkien plagiarism notwithstanding.
Three Things.
1) Plagiarism is fine if you do it well enough imo. (not really but you know what I mean)
2) There are...3? 4? more books in the Magic Kingdom for Sale series. All of them were pretty good.
3) If you understand the Shannara world and how it works and came into being and all that then I would recommend skipping a lot of the books and reading the Voyage of the Jerle Shannara trilogy. It was excellent.

Downsizing.
Awful movie.

Yes, and it'll still be a joke.
They're betting, basically, that the changes in the game around player safety, combined with using sports as an outlet for politics, has created a large enough splinter in the market that a rival leauge can form.
Both of these are very weak assumptions, and combined they are, well, a joke.
NFL viewership is down ~20% in some cases. If there's a time to try it's now.
1.) Concerns around player safety were initiated by the players, which means that the XFL will have to create a compensation package large enough to attract new talent away from the NFL and pull talent from the NFL. Note that most of these changes around player safety have been in youth football, and college football for years - and in other sports.
Many fans want (or think they want) a sport less concerned with safety. If the viewership can be turned the money will be there. That said this is at least a valid reason to think it wont take off.
2.) Asides from players (see 1), you'd need to get fans who were anti-politics (specifically anti-progressive politics) in sports to watch. Would they watch a game with lower caliber play because everyone stood for the national anthem and weren't allowed to talk about what happens outside the white lines inside them?
Perhaps, but that's very small subset of the population.
It's useful to note while viewership down overall, viewership in markets where teams were competitive was unchanged from normal. What happened this year was that almost half the teams (15) were under .500, and of those 15, most of them were "major market" teams which, if/when they were/are good drive overall national ratings.
Just like the 2016 election, you may be underestimating the population. I guess that remains to be seen though.

Is Vince McMahon still running the show?
Yes.
Realistically I can’t even fathom 700 football teams entering a tournie. There’s so much game planning/practice that goes into one game, not to mention the recovery time between. A bracket that big would literally take an entire year to play out.
The XFL has 8 teams.
-
Anyone have thoughts on the return of the XFL?

The season was ok.
I kind of thought it was ending but we got a to be continued and a sort of cliffhanger (not unsatisfying).
So I guess there will either be a season 3 or an unfinished story.

I just watched Atomic Blonde.
The trailer is a lie and the movie sucked.
-
Geostorm.
It was horrible.
You should watch it.
It was so bad.
So, so, bad.
There were dozens of continuity issues, the world was not internally consistent, the characters used dialog for the sole purpose of setting up one lines.
Actors couldn't decide on accents for their characters, and frequently switched mid-conversation.
Also, water dries up immediately when the sun comes out, and dogs are immune from tornados.
That last line is a spoiler.
I don't care.
Sharknado bad?
Dogs are always immune in Hollywood... I think I've seen one exception but I cant remember the film
John Wick?
