WoT video news: A Memory of Light update

Jason Denzel

One of the most common questions we get asked is, "When does the final book come out?" Well, folks, we don't have exact answers yet, but we can tell you a few useful things about A Memory of Light.

Our very own Kristen Nedopak gives us the full scoop in the latest Wheel of Time Video News. For even more information about this book, check out our A Memory of Light info page.

Special thanks to James Luckman ("Luckers") for contributing his theories on what we might see in the final book.

This episode of the Wheel of Time Video News is sponsored by TaverenTees.com -- the official location for WoT t-shirts. "Wear a piece of the Pattern."

Wow, was that pointless. We learned nothing at all about AMoL. And why are we interviewing Luckers? He's not privy to any information the rest of us don't know. And the questions we're asking are if the Horn will be used or if Moiraine will play a role? No's actually asking those questions. There are much bigger questions to ask, and ones that we can't already guess fairly certainly at. I know most of these video news updates are dumb, but man, this one had nothing to offer whatsoever.

Ouch. But okay. Thanks for the feedback. What would you like to know? What would have been useful for you to hear? Keep in mind that nobody (not even Tor or Team Jordan) know when the book will be in stores specifically. Nor do we know what will be in the book (and if we did, we couldn't tell you, right?)

Thanks for the feedback. :loial:

If you have nothing more to tell us than 6 year old information that the book will be titled "A Memory of Light" or that it'll be the last book in the series, then maybe doing a News story about it isn't very useful? Maybe you could focus on other things going on in the WoT community? There's the comic books coming out every month, and the first graphic novel will be released in September. Why not interview the artist, or Chuck Dixon? How about an interview with Seamas or Jeremy Saliba? Or how about interviewing Leigh Butler who's on the last wholly written WoT book by RJ? You could try getting interviews with other fans or maybe with people involved in some of the orgs. Perhaps if you're going to interview Luckers, interview other fans about their theories about the end of the series. What does Nedopak think will happen? Just don't feed us information we could get off the AMoL page of the website, or ask questions we've all been asking since 1990.

I thought it was a nice wrap up... Obviously dragonmount arent privy to whats going to happen, as what would be the point in waiting for a book if they had the entire plot? Plus that was one attractive WOT fan! (Sorry luckers and jason, not referring to you guys :P )

Hi Kadre, Those are good suggestions. In fact, some of them are on our radar already. Please keep in mind that the Wot community is very spread out. The majority of our traffic to DM is from people who never login or never go beyond the home page. In fact, some of our visitors ONLY know us via our YouTube channel. So unless we tell them in a video, they won't know about all this stuff.

Keep the suggestions coming. Email them to us at webmaster@dragonmount.com. For now, just enjoy these quirky little videos we put together. Thanks

Jason

Coz I've recieved some questions about it--my comment about Verin being behind the attack on Caemlyn was a joke. There isn't enough evidence to begin making guesses about the attack on Caemlyn.

I thought the video was good expect when you went to the dude in Australia. He didn't really give off the aura of being a "expert" Just a average fan. I was hoping for some news on the book trailer. AND WHAT YOU GUYS DID WITH THE COVER WAS MEAN! I got excited! and my hopes were shattered! :P just kidding. but No I enjoy these new videos! look forward to them every 2 weeks now is it? Great way to get information/details out there!!

I agree with Kadre about the video not offering up anything regarding the book other than speculation. Part of the issue that I had with the video is that the title - WoT video news: A Memory of Light update - indicated that there was an update. I think there should have been a different title used since there was not an update. Personally, I use the RSS feeder feature (thank you for that) to find out when updates occur with Dragonmount (DM), so by using the title that was used, it lead me to believe news about the book was going to be revealed, when it reality it was not revealed.

I don't have a problem with Luckers being used (or other super fans), but when you have a news story, I think there should be a clarification that he is not associated with Team Jordan and is just a super fan. As Jason mentioned in a comment above, a lot of people only see the front page of the website or the YouTube Channel, so they may not even know who Luckers is. I know he clarified in the comment section, but I think he should have stayed with the speculation that is commonly believed about A Memory of Light versus a joke that some people may have thought was either a fact or commonly believed.

I agree with Engram about how there was a fake out on the cover was not right. This is my viewpoint, but I suspect a lot of fans agree with me, that when Dragonmount is held out as the official site of the Wheel of Time and when DM is doing a news story, it should be only the facts and not speculation or jokes being delivered unless the video has a disclaimer at the beginning stating such.

Wow, some people really need relax a bit and not take things so seriously.

The video was great. It had Luckers, who is awesome, and Kristen Nedopak, who is hot.

Love the video news updates and look forward to more. There are still a few kinks that need ironing out but I can think of none previously unmentioned.

BTW on the subject of theories, the Horn of Valere is bound to whomever blows it until that person dies, right? But Mat died! He blew the Horn in the second book, died in the fifth book and then it has not been blow again since. which means that the Horn is not bound to anyone! It's a wildcard! anyone could blow it! even the the Dark One! the dead heroes did say that they had fought both for and against Lews Therin before and so its power can be weilded for good and evil! now that's what I call a cliffhanger!

Wow I got overexcited about that, but my point stands, right? please correct me if I'm wrong, though! I hope I'm wrong I want Mat to blow the Horn again but he did technically die, didn't he?

Thats a really good point highlord, though it was never made clear if he died literally or figuratively. Im guessing that because he's still walking around (i.e. his soul hasnt been spun out by the wheel yet) that he's still bound to the horn. Would be cool if your theory was right though, that could mean the horn might have a darker role to play than what we'd been lead to believe. Sounds like a RAFO to me... lol.

When are new podcasts coming out? I always find them much more interesting than these video shorts. The podcast shows feature more of what many of the commentators seem to want. But, to each her own...

thank you Rory Bayliss for your support! after so many years of evil WOT plottwists I've been scouring the books for stuff like that! and my conclusion...Robert Jordan is a genius at keeping us guessing! argh too many theories! and I think Mat did die as with the Aefflin prophecies?!

I think Mat did die, thus fulfilling the Finn prophecy. But, because the Balefire burned reality back in time, this creating a loophole so that according to the Pattern Mat did not die. This leads me to believe the horn is still tied to Mat until Mat's thread is officially "recycled". :bandredhand:

oh yeah! I hadn't thought of that! but i thought Balefire only eradicated the object it hit from the Pattern and no balefire was fired around the time of Mat's death so I don't think it was taken from the Pattern?!

I believe Moriken was referring to when Rand killed Rahvin whilst storming Caemlyn; Mat (and several others) were killed by Rahvin's lightning.

ah yes thank you, warrenr! i had forgotten about that! I thought she was referring to when he was hung! I now agree with you Moriken for that instance but Mat still properly died in FoH and if he died agian by balefire then would it be enough to cut his link with the horn even though the exact moment of his death was reversed?

1) Rand and Company invade Caemlyn via Gateway.

2) Mat, Aviendha and others are killed by Rahvin's lightning.

3) Rand fights epic One Power battle with Rahvin.

4) Nynaeve fries Rahvin using collared Moghedien as her instrument.

5) Rand hits Rahvin with enough Balefire that all of Rahvin's actions back in time up to the beginning of the invasion are erased.

6) Mat and Aviendha are alive again as if they were never killed - i.e. the Pattern never "knew" that Mat ever died so theoretically Mat is still tied to the Horn.

Highlord brings up an awesome point. I agree with Moriken that the balefire burned Rahvin's thread back far enough to undo Mat's death but didn't he still die when he was hung? Also, I enjoy watching anything with Kristen in it so I cant complain about the content.

According to Encyclopeadia-WOT.com in the chapter summaries section of TSR, Robert Jordan said at a 2004 book signing that Mat didn't quite die during the hanging episode. :bandredhand:
