Can someone give me a break down on all the acronyms you guys use?  ldo?  and others.  So confused.

And why the propensity to claim people are town so soon in the game with no info?

ldo = like duh obvious = me being intentionally obnoxious or snarky ldo

@ early reads, I got into this in my last two games and it's a distinct playstyle difference between here and JN.  Some of it's meta (Zander's a villager because I've played with him like 30 times and can read him correctly with >>> rand success rate off of next to nothing), some of it is non-player specific pattern recognition that proves reasonably accurate when you've been treating D1 as the most important phase of the game for as long as you've been playing Mafia, a lot of it is to deny wolves the opportunity to lay low, and some of it is just taking a shot in the dark with an attentiveness to how the player you're calling town or scum will react.

That's fair, I think it would be stupid to react and I would assume most arent that easily baited.  idk

And I want to preface this all with, I do use meta and use it often on a few players.  One particular player is a complete blockhead who has no ability to change his play style.  He avoids the thread like the plague when he's scum and super active when he's town.  But the difference is, I never go proclaiming he's town.  I'll vote when he's giving me scum tells and call out his scum behaviors.  NOT his town behaviors because I prefer to see how others interact with my best town reads.

I think that's the biggest difference.  I see no value in saying, he's town.  If I think you're town, cool.  I'll keep that to myself and hunt scum.

It's like, great, that person is town...now why not tell me who's scum since that's what were trying to do here?

Since this thread needs less holstering:

I'm less confident on Zander than I had stated. This happens a lot. I know from experience that my initial gut feel on him is probably right, so I roll with it and call him obvious town and by EoD he's typically done enough to validate the initial feeling. Has enough happened yet to make me lock him in as a villager for the entire game?  No. Part of that's been a slank thread in general producing fewer readable situations. Is he probably a villager and will I absolutely not lynch him today? Yes.

heh @ 481

Sounds nice on paper but makes a lot of assumptions that don't really apply in practice.

If I could be more influential about forcing people on the fence to trust my reads on certain players I would, because not all humans are evil geniuses and some people are just not capable of replicating their town games and their alignment is ridiculously obvious to players who don't stubbornly deny the utility of meta.

But most importantly it forces wolves to lie more. How do you catch scum if they aren't forced to ever state opinions? Votes are one of the least useful tools in this regard but some people take them for gospel.

Again, I use meta to find scum.  Not to proclaim someone town.

I forgot Amega was playing.

Also not sure what to make of JiF being all philosophical and lecture-y.

Onto page 25 now.

OMG, zander is so towny that I cannot bring myself to vote him. Sorry dice, lol

(That said, how about we lynch dice when he is sleeping?)

Any other reads to share?

Thanks.  Your quickly becoming my 2nd favorite poster in the history of the interwebz.

I wish I was scum this game and I hate being scum.  This place would be a cake walk just based on D1 #soulreads.

Based on that JN game we played in you might be right, but I'd just call you an above average wolf.

haha - I'm not sure you can base anything of that game.  That's was the wildest piece of unbalance the world has ever known...but I did battle to the bitter end against all odds.

Zander, would you say this song describes your role in this game?

Nolder - you know Minor Threat?  You never stop amazing me and I love you soooo much.

Zander is trying though...he's giving you competition.  He's got a long way to go after this post.

Why are people voting David?

Because I'm handsome, duh

Is that what you think?  Does that explain the pose in the avatar?

Yuck!

So wtf we doin

Not scum hunting and calling everyone town so we never lynch anyone.

^ starting to sound like somebody who doesn't like having players removed from lynch contention

Saying votes aren't useful was probably excessive on my part.  It's good for a lot of people and I use it often enough, it's just not my primary go-to.

I get what you're saying about wanting to holster your town reads to see who pushes them.  I've seen fairly obvious villagers duke it out in most games I've played and if I'm a wolf I sit back and let it happen while trying to look like I want to figure them out, as a villager I take a strong stance if I have one because I don't want a mislynch.  And that's more where I and I think a lot of the Cory Curren copycats come from--a sort of power struggle between wolves and villagers for thread domination, where we try to not let wolves have a free pass to sit back and relax when all the pressure is on villagers.

Seems to be a convo that happens often as of late

Really?  Is it usually about the same thing as this?

Oh, to answer you questions: he came in hot, trying to make jokey stuff real, he took the game serious on some weak sauce, then bounced all over the place, got called on it, took a few votes, disappeared and came back in all jokey.  My vote stays there, especially after the handsome comment.

The best part will be when folks realize that they're going to have to go back and read through all these pages of D1 for clues.

But that's none of my business.
