Can someone give me a break down on all the acronyms you guys use?  ldo?  and others.  So confused.

And why the propensity to claim people are town so soon in the game with no info?

Mafia is the name, meta is the game. Some people like to determine who's in their town crew from D1 based on meta and this lets them get a better idea of who's scum in later days. Not my way necessarily but it's worked for them. There have been games where a wrong D1 read screws them later in the game. Or mafia get snuffed pretty quick.

Meh, meta is weak sauce.  And I dont know anyone's meta, so it's completely useless from me.  And using meta doesnt mean you have to declare people town, in fact, it would be more useful to do the opposite. Declaring people town is stupid and provides cover.  It's a terrible way of scum hunting because it isnt scum hunting.

Explain the bold.

It's not like declaring someone town makes it a consensus. I think facilizing it to just "meta" wasn't really fair on my part. They play with each other so much that they know how the other person thinks and can judge how he or she would respond in certain situations. I think it's fair enough if you genuinely think you know someone well enough that you can anticipate certain types of responses basically before they've been made.

Sure - first and foremost, when you start to declare people as town, it allows them to manipulate that particular player and or it can provide cover for a player who maybe isnt town.  It also, in many cases, can influence the decision making of players who may arent super convicted or on the fence.  I'm a good example of that.  I dont know anyone meta to confirm or deny others thoughts.  So I could easily just sheep others thoughts. Luckily for all you, I dont play way.  Scum or Wolf can play into someone reading your town when you're not.  In general, dismissing someone as town with little to no information based on nothing other than meta, does nothing to actually provoke any type thought that will advance the game.  In fact, it does the complete opposite.  It makes people lazy.  It makes the game lazy.  You can keep that thought to yourself and it's more effective while you hunt for scum.

And if you're entire point is about anticipation of what someone would say, then this must be the easiest place to play as scum or wolf in the history of mafia.

All that said, you can find scum or a wolf based off their meta being different occasionally but I'm going to venture to say it doesnt happen often.  The thing is, in that scenario, you're using meta to call them scum, not town.  So again, its counterproductive to just go around calling people town all game long.

Playing devils advocate here.

If I believe someone is town with some sense of certainty then why wouldn't it be in my best interests to keep that person alive? The people whose views you're going to be influencing (in terms of judging how town or scum someone is) are going to be town as well since mafia already know the alignments. If I state my assumptions that Zander is town and you follow along then that won't go unnoticed because you've never played with him before but I have so my meta read has more credit than yours since you'll be basing your post off only his posts this game and if that happens then tbh there's a decent amount of information there with which I can begin to develop a read on you and on Zander given your reaction.

I feel like your argument works if you consider each game in a vacuum but I don't really think that's how people approach each game. The downside to this is that people who join from outside are generally assblasted early since their posts are more heavily criticized.

Based off of what I've read of this thread so far, I can that it is a style thing.  Personally, when I see it happen, it bothers me.  Your sense of certainty is still a guess, albeit educated to an extent, so I still dont see the benefit because as I said, its not scum hunting and it provides cover.  Or now scum knows who the town is feeling good about and if everyone goes around proclaiming people town, then mafia knows who's not going to be lynched giving them the better NK candidates.  So, you're technically not doing them a favor trying to keep them alive.

Let me try this and ask a few questions since I've only played like one game here:

Do the same people typically take heat on day 1?

How often do you guys actually lynch a wolf on day 1 around here?

Leelou and Verbal I'd like to know where you are at with thoughts as well. Everyone really but you've both been around. Verb has more content but is like a recent thoughts or reads list please.

I have a plan.

If we can't find a wolf by EoD we lynch Nolder.

unvote, vote Shad

A little late in the game for joke votes when you've done nothing, wouldn't you say?

TBH despite a number of Dave's posts from now make me go  he's still far more likely to be Town imo.

And if I'm wrong it'll become increasingly obvious later in the game with what I've seen thus far. Not lynching him today

Aj this is wolfy from you, looks like conceeding a townie.

Nah...more fun to leave it there

Kay def in my WTL pile.....
Teasing you like this is fun and always worth it.

This is what I like to call a darthe read post. It's seemingly meaningless and it definitely matters if youve a good enough meta on Kaylee.

I do not, and as such lean wolf.

I dont get what youre getting from either of these posts.

If I dont see on catching up, can you explain a bit please?

I am liking Boo Boo more the more he posts. Can't wait to get reads from him. Good vibes

See, the vibes. I'm telling you. I could feel it from jump street. Some people just exude the similar energy.

It's too bad you're married. We could have something.

This place needs rep.

sup Notbob!!!!

Why is Derf Scum iyo?!?!!?!?

Have you seen my stupid face?

Its a face only a mother could lynch.

I have actually....Ill let you chew on that for a bit...lololololol

First question, yes.

Second question, depends on the field, but when there are few to no slankers I'd say we lynch a wolf D1 at least half of the time.

This game has had quite a lot of slankers.

In fact since deadline is tomorrow can everyone please give where they are...I mean whatever reads they have on people so far.

I have people I don't want to lynch and I've stated most of them (add yourself to that list). I don't really want to influence where we do go until closer to consolidation time (which probably needs to be tonight since it takes a majority of 21 players). That might still amount to 'none of these people' but hopefully the game has broken out of its crawl by then.

Hey you guys rememeber that last game where Amega was Scum made like 5 posts and bailed....and then flipped Wolf???

Is this your attempt at a meta on me?

Personally I feel a little better of Kay now that she has some more reads. I'm not sure how i feel about Hermes. I have no idea what to use as a read for Shad, Nolder, or zander. A few of them are on a personal level that makes it hard to determine if they are working in a group or are just that familiar with each other. I think it would be interesting to look at Darthe a little closer.

Kinda yes I dont really have any other Meta that I recall from you.

Interesting....I call you out....you appear.

This is a lot of words to say I feel ok about Kay and cant read anyone else imo.

Strange comment singling out Derf at the end as well.

At least its something.

Will be looking for more from you as I catch up.

all right i am working on the basis that this is jif

first off giving a town read shouldnt stop reevaluation unless its a very strong one for reasons. eg i have a habit of calling Zander town early and once i do i dont shift. Its totally meta but guess what? ive never been wrong. So this game im thinking tress is town. Doesnt mean my mind cant change, just what my thinking is now.

Calling someone town or scum also helps other players. It makes me accountable for what i said and they know where my thinking is. That way if i act contrary to that they can spot it and jump at me. If i now do a reads list and put tress at the bottom watch people excplode on me cause they have evidence that im contradicting myself.

It can open you to manipulation and i have cost us games cough frozen cough when ive got paranoid on someone but again those meta reads help me to have a chance to spot if im getting manipulated.

LMAO and if you hate meta ure gonna HATE my gut reads. Also if this IS Jif then really all you JN guys DO is use meta. You just use it at such a high level you cant even see what it is your basing things on.

And you have meta on people  you know verb leelou crusher and NB well  youve played a couple with me, know zander a bit and at least one with shad.

Now that you know who I am, you'll know this is a pet peeve of mine.  I hate it.  The DM'ers do it all the time at JN and it drives me crazy.  80 too.  One of the reasons he's easy to read.

In one breath your talking about how you can change your mind, in another your talking about accountability and contradictions.  If were playing a game where opinions change as we gain more information during the game, then accountability and contradictions really mean nothing, right?  Saying someone is town and then saying I was wrong, I think they're mafia...is the game.  So how does calling someone town on D1 having any bearing on what you feel D3?  That not how this works.

I do have meta on people from JN and a few you, notice how I dont use it?

Darthe has descended back to completely null.

amega has more spunk than he presented last game but both had a sample size of like four posts to work with. m8 you've got to share more of your thoughts in here or I'll have to bus you.

I've read the game, I'll say that.  I have not, however, paid enough attention to the game that I can form a reads list yet.  It has been a long time since I played a game with this many players, so I'm actually kinda hoping bodies hit the floor over this next phase or two and thin the herd out.

THEN I'm prepared to go ham.  Until then, I have a few soft town reads (Dice, Darthe) and everybody else is WTL.  That said, I might not want to lynch Hermes (I did at first) - his explanations have seemed to come from a townie POV.

@JiF #1091, read changes are only unaccountable in a dead game where people just post "I think John's a wolf" etc without any reasoning. That generally gets lynched here if it goes on long enough and there's not a strong meta basis to know that the player is going to holster their thoughts as either alignment. Villagers change their reads all the time, but they do it for reasons, and the more effective players are at expressing their thoughts the more the wolves are forced to make up bullshit to keep up.

I moved Darthe from town down to null a few posts ago because I feel like he's mostly been chucking out one-liners about people without much expressed thought or follow-through. It was a decent look for him early game vs doing nothing but we've reached a point where he should have more. It's easily faked stuff, hence null.

See? Read changes, Shad is still accountable. Open villages slaughter wolves.

If we took everyone voting right now and put them onto one person we would still only be at L-2. Where are the other 12 players and why aren't they voting?

Just woke up and don't feel strong enough to vote anyone yet. I won't vote for Hermes today. Snow possibly.

Snow: anything to add? What are you're reads?

In fact since deadline is tomorrow can everyone please give where they are...I mean whatever reads they have on people so far.

Did you mean Snow is someone you dont want to or are willing to lynch?

And why for whichever?
